[history]
A carefully planned and well-financed campaign to overhaul Michigan's drug laws crashed Tuesday, as the state Supreme Court declined to place the issue before voters in November.
Without comment, the court upheld decisions issued last week by the Court of Appeals and a state elections panel to keep the drug question off the ballot.

1. Medical marijuana. Try looking a terminal cancer patient in the face when marijuana is the only thing keeping the pain and nausea of chemo away. Try telling them they are an "evil druggie" Look them right in the eye when you sneer at them. They aren't, but there are other pain killers to get through chemo, not just wonderweed.
2. Cocaine still makes a wonderful topical anesthetic for certain surgeries where swelling of the tissue MUST be prevented (some eye surgeries, for instance.)
Again a medical issue.
3. Pray you never need morphine.
Another medical issue.
Since you are acting like Clinton and parsing every word, I will rephrase the question.
Firearms help protect innocent life and property, how many lives has the "recreational" use of a joint, crack pipe, orused heroin needle saved?
Has a joint ever prevented a robbery? Yeah I can just see it.
"Dude put down the gun and have a doob with me."
The pothead will probably be shot and his stash taken.

What we ARE saying is that the Federal Government doesn't have the authority to run a War on Drugs, and that the current War on Drugs is a socialist, burecratic nightmare that shreds the Constitution, fosters corruption in law enforcement, bloats the government, and creates more crime and problems than it attempts to solve. And, don't forget, it also makes for one hell of a bad hair day. (/sarcasm)

Prohibition caused the homocide rate to spike up to levels that wouldn't be seen again until 1975
Very true and statistics I saw show that over 60% of murder victims are criminals usually with a drug connection
And the increased murder statistics are used to take away our Gun rights

you equate rape and murder (which have victims, mind you) with drug use (which has no victim)? If you put down the crack pipe for a second you would realize that I was demonstrating an absurdity with an absurdity ... Okay, continue puffing.

Please show me where I stated that(that drug use has no victims) Wyldkard. Uh right here in reply #79,
so in your twisted little brain you equate rape and murder (which have victims, mind you) with drug use (which has no victim)?
Whew now I know you constanly talk to a pot head crowd, since your short term memory is shot.

Cocaine is often used in rhinoplasty and other sinus surgeries. Morphine is a widely used anesthetic. Opium derrivatives in general have been used for centuries in surgical proceedures just as they continue to be used today.
Disruptor. You don't even try to make your arguments appear valid anymore do you?

We may never know how many lives were extended by the use of MJ,
many people have already testified that MJ helped extend the life's of many cancer patients.
Helped them handle the nausea. So thank you again, Legalize MJ now for all the sick people.

It sure didn't stop those drunk airline pilots...pilots who consumed a LEGAL drug I might add... And you honestly believe that legalizing drugs won't add to more instances similar to the one you've cited?
The pilots abused a "legal" drug. Legalizing other drugs will only increase the instances of abuse and dangers to more innocent people.

If you'd put down your mint julep for a second you'd realize you made the first argument every Drug Warrior makes when he or she decides to argue this issue on a third-grade-level. Fisher-Price could patent it and call it My First Anti-Doper Debate TM.

At last we have an admission that this has
nothing to do with personal responsibility (libertarianism, ostensibly).
You just want to shift the focus of efforts from doper punishing to doper-coddling because you are convinced fewer people would be adversely affected.
Doper-punishing and doper-coddling are both enormously expensive enterprises. The taxpayer eats those costs either way. The only common element is doper irresponsibility in forcing the rest of us to clean up and deal with their self-indulgent messes.
It's a numbers game that ends in state action no matter how it is played.

Due to the Clintonian(it depends on what is, is) parsing by the pro-drug crowd on this thread, the question has been rephrased.
Firearms help protect innocent lives and property, how many lives have been save by the "recreational" use of a joint, crack pipe, or used heroin needle?

Then by your logic PROHIBITION was OK
Are you in favor of bringing it back
Simple question only needs a yes or no

why would you think that lives would be saved by recreational use of anything, you dolt?

About the same amount that were saved by the beer you drink ( Or are you a teetotaler that wants to bring back Prohiobition )

Not all of them work. There are a number of situations where the THC from pot appears to be the only thing that works.
Again a medical issue.
3. Pray you never need morphine.
Another medical issue.
I'm just answering your question: How many lives have these drugs saved. Don't yell at me if I actually answered them.
Firearms help protect innocent life and property, how many lives has the "recreational" use of a joint, crack pipe, orused heroin needle saved?
How many lives has the "recreational" use of fast food, alcohol, coffee and tobacco saved? Are you saying that if something can be used recreationally, it should be banned?
Has a joint ever prevented a robbery? Yeah I can just see it.
A joint isn't a weapon of self-defense. You might as well ask "Has an orange ever prevented a robbery?" or "has a stuff teddybear ever prevented a robbery?" You use the right tools for the right job. Has a can of beer ever prevented a robbery?

If you put down the crack pipe for a second you would realize that I was demonstrating an absurdity with an absurdity ... Okay, continue puffing.
You are attributing someone elses words to me. Please invest in some reading comprehension skills.
To: WindMinstrel
why would you think that lives would be saved by recreational use of anything, you dolt? Well the "recreational" use of a car(Sunday Drive) could be used to drive a person to the hospital. The "recreational" use of a firearm(target practice) can stop a criminal in their tracks. Another recreational use of a firearm(hunting), can help feed people.
So please tell me again how lives can't be saved with the "recreational" use of an object?

That's what I meant about an absurdity with an absurdity, though in between the hits on your crack pipe you probably got confused.
