Drug laws won't be on the fall ballot, but tobacco money will

A carefully planned and well-financed campaign to overhaul Michigan's drug laws crashed Tuesday, as the state Supreme Court declined to place the issue before voters in November.

Without comment, the court upheld decisions issued last week by the Court of Appeals and a state elections panel to keep the drug question off the ballot.

They see that the creation of doper-victim voter phaylanx will help them undermine western values and strengthen the socialist nanny state.

Find me one anti-W.o.D. poster on Free Republic who wouldn't fight tooth and nail against any threat to western values. Find me just one Freeper who's anti-W.o.D. because he or she wants free dope or free medical care or more government intervention in our lives. Just one.

Down in Northampton, MA, a few years ago, someone tried to get a license to open up a strip club in town. In an example of strange bedfellows, all the feminazi left wing lesbians immediately grouped up with all the extreme right-wing Christians in town to oppose this. (While the downtown section is very left wing, the surrounding rural area leans a little to the right...)

So are we now to assume that extreme rightist Christians support radical left-wing lesbians in general, or vice versa, because they happened to agree on this ONE issue?

Why can't you answer simple questions, and have to resort to beating one dead horse. Do you support a program where this is no FEDERAL War on Drugs, and States can make their own decisions?

It is obvious that you WOD'rs biggest problem has nothing to do with drugs at all...

It involves something else entirely...

Your biggest problem is the current socialist government programs such as welfare, medicaid, medicare, etc. that exist in this country...

THOSE programs are where your emotions should be pointed...

You keep talking about you being "forced" to take care of people when they take drugs after they are re-legalized...

THE reason you think that is the case is not because of the drugs, it's because of those programs...

You see, when you eliminate those socialist programs, then you don't have anyone taking money by force out of your pocket to take care of "druggies"...

The "druggies" must survive on their own...

Therefore, you are no longer required to pay to support people who have caused no crime or harm to another individual, which you currently have to do....

So THE solution that gives the individual (the most important entity) the most freedom to live his or her own life is this....

RE-legalize drugs, AND, eliminate all other goverment socialist wealth distribution programs such as welfare, etc...

Government then shrinks to proper size...

More freedom exists for you...

GET IT?/

how many lives have a joint, crack pipe, or used heroin needle saved?

MINE. Quit posting this stupid rhetorical question if you don't want to deal with the answer you don't like.

Indeed a sad day for the Libertarians....they will have to continue taking their drugs illegally.

My late grandfather was a bootlegger in prohibition. He told me the lengths to which people will go to get their vice, and how the ruthless smuggler cash in on this desire. Prohibition didn't stop people from drinking, just as with today the prohibition doesn't stop people from using illegal drugs. What the prohibition did do is give the smugglers every financial incentive in the world to subvert the law. Prohibtion harms the law because the black market brings the profit motive to bear against it.

In my opinion, it seems to me that we have not learned the mistakes of the past, and we continue to make the same ones. The so-called "war on drugs" is a misnomer, because it is not a war it is simply public policy. It may be amended or changed without losing face or "retreating." The prohibition gave us gun control and federal police. How many more weakening of constitutional protections must take place before "conservatives" begin to question the efficacy of it all? I am certianly open to debate and I am moderate on the subject, so I don't believe in complete legalization, but rather some more limited steps.

That doesn't seem to matter to loud mouths like you, however. I think you would rather label me as a "druggie" and "criminal." Well, if you think I am such a danger to society, why don't you Freepmail me for my address, put your money where you mouth is and come on down to the house and take me out?

Really what about the families torn apart by drug use and addiction. Oh that's correct you don't beleive in the family, they are nothings who get in the way of smoking your dope.

The old all inanimate objects are created equal crap again.

The old "Blame the objects, because we don't want to blame the users" socialist crap again.

Firearms help protect innocent life and property

Yes, and firearms also kill more people per year than pot ever has. They are also used by drug dealers to protect their turf, and commit rape and murder. These are the reasons why leftists try to ban them.

how many lives have a joint, crack pipe, or used heroin needle saved?

1. Medical marijuana. Try looking a terminal cancer patient in the face when marijuana is the only thing keeping the pain and nausea of chemo away. Try telling them they are an "evil druggie" Look them right in the eye when you sneer at them.

2. Cocaine still makes a wonderful topical anesthetic for certain surgeries where swelling of the tissue MUST be prevented (some eye surgeries, for instance.)

3. Pray you never need morphine.

Again, why do you blame OBJECTS, and not the PEOPLE USING THE OBJECTS? What is it you have against personal responsibility?

Oh that's right wonderweed "saved" you after your divorce. I guess the bong and pot saying to you, "I will always love you" brought you great solace.

I would feel very bad if my family were torn apart by drug use and addiction. If yours were, however, I wouldn't give a rat's ass, and I certainly wouldn't expect to pay for keeping your kids clean. Are you so bad a parent that you can't be responsible for your own children? You need the feds to help?

Those are societal costs, not legal problems. The actual act of smoking a joint alone does not present a clear and present danger to society. Rape and murder do, because they can not be commited without one person violating the rights of another.

So tell me...do you blame the drunk for not seeking help, and causing problems with his alcohol addiction, or do you blame the "devil booze"? If alcohol causes all these problems, why aren't you campaigning for a New Prohibition?

You got that right. Had it once while 4 burly orderlies wrestled my dislocated right elbow back into place (after a soccer injury). I didn't "feel" a thing, but nevertheless my body reacted as though my arm was being torn off. Jimminy Christmas that is some strong stuff.

But a technical error in drafting the language for the proposal proved fatal.

LOL!!

Obviously, drugs affect language skills as well.

LOL!!!

F*ck you and the horse you rode in on for being so condescending. I hope even an unmitigated asshole like you has never had to go through the pain of a divorce.

I had to be mainlined twice in a row with it in order to kill the pain from complications with my shockwave lythotripsy. Clots passing through one's kidney's HURT!

It felt like I was drowning each time. I have no idea why the hell people knock over 7-11's for the stuff, it's really not that pleasant, other than killing the pain. I guess it's when people USE IT INCORRECTLY, like when they don't have pain, that can cause problems. Far be it for us to blame the people for their own actions though, eh? :)

Excellent day for drug dealers and cartels. Drugs stay illegal, profits stay robust.

Only because the dopers can't kick their own habits.

Nah. let's throw them into government-subsidized housing instead, pay them supplemental socal security, and provide them with dope for life.

No more than we should provide boozers with the same thing

BTW do you use liquid drugs ?

Be honest now
If it ain't a drug than you can't be arrested for DUI

Ain't nobody getting busted for driving under the influence of milk eh

And don't give me any you don't drink to excess or drive under the influence cause USE is USE

Please show me where I stated that. Are you resorting to outright fraud now to make your points?

All drug use can have victims, if the drugs are being used incorrectly. However, there are FAR MORE violent victims involved when you have a Prohibition. Did you people learn NOTHING from the 1930's? Prohibition caused the homocide rate to spike up to levels that wouldn't be seen again until 1975

I couldn't agree with you more. But we're druggies, so we're probably lying, and what we really want to do is get food stamps and subsidies for our Che posters.

Even more reason to vote Libertarian.

Oh, it's definitely a win-win for the pro-dope libertarians. They can continue to bitch about high taxes supporting the drug rehab nanny state while sucking "medicinal" spliffs for their lumbago and eating munchies--all provided at taxpayer expense.

You've caught the vision of the thing. You really have.

Soros was way ahead of you.
