A former marine and Trump supporter is suing Fox News for defamation over claims he helped incite the January 6 riots.
Ray Epps claims in a new lawsuit that he became the subject of various conspiracy theories after comments by the network's former host Tucker Carlson.
The suit states: 'Just as Fox had focused on voting machine companies when falsely claiming a rigged election, Fox knew it needed a scapegoat for January 6th.
'It settled on Ray Epps and began promoting the lie that Epps was a federal agent who incited the attack on the Capitol.'
Carlson, who was sacked in April, accused Epps of being a 'federal agent who helped stage-manage the insurrection.'
Carlson made the comments on his late-night show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, after a video showed him urging others to join him in entering the Capitol.
During the segment in July last year Carlson said: 'Now we've asked Ray Epps on this show repeatedly to explain why he thinks he's escaped prosecution, and we'll ask him once again tonight, and we'll keep asking because we think it is a very obvious and important question.'
The complaint was filed in the Superior Court in Delaware, where Fox agreed to a $787.5 million settlement in a separate defamation case with Dominion Voting Systems.
The group claims that the company had helped rig the 2020 election against Trump, which was ultimately settled out of court.
Fox did not immediately respond to a request for comment by DailyMail.com regarding the latest suit.
However, they appear to have requested that the venue for the case be changed to the Federal District Court in Wilmington, Delaware.
Epps is seeking unspecified damages in the case, as the conspiracy theories quickly spilled online.

Discovery should be fun...
Discovery will be interesting.....................
Now Ray wants to cash in on his sudden celebrity status.
So the headline should read “Federal agent sues Fox News”
With all the election fraud cases there were comments like ‘Discovery should be interesting”. Nothing ever came of it.
Is it now considered defamatory to call someone a federal agent?
After the Dominion Debacle. Fox Really needs to win one.
OR..
They will just cave without any sort of fight, cry “mea culpa” and hand over a big chunk of cash.
With the hopes of rebranding themselves as the “slightly more middle of the road CNN”, “We are not like that mean old far right Tucker era Fox anymore! Come try us now!”
Timing is good to sue FOX. The idiots will settle with Epps like they did with Dominion.
Is it now considered defamatory to call someone a federal agent?
~~~
That’s actually a very interesting point.
How is it considered defamation, even if it isn’t true?
What is he really suing for?
It sounds to me like he is still working for those agencies or NGOs that organized the J6 event into the circus that it became, and they want to heap on to fox news after the dominion lawsuit in order to curtail even more speech
This is nothing more than a proxy war by the DNC and the deep state against speech!
They do it with NGOs and private citizens.
I’m no fangirl of Fox but I hope Fox doesn’t just have good lawyers, but really good researchers. They need to drill down deep on what’s really going on here and see how much they can use the discovery process and other tools to determine who is behind this stuff.
He’s counting on Fox not even defending themselves. The big red flag here is that he didn’t name Tucker Carlson as a co-defendant.
One of the families of those he helped to frame should give him a present. Or he should be shunned by decent people. But the steal proves that we are beyond that. Now the sheep cower down and say, “Thank Goodness it was them, not me as they wait for the next one.
It is pretty insulting.
The only thing worse would be being called Mitt Romney.
-U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, Overton Park, Memphis, TN.
Paul Ryan throwing around Fox bucks.
Even if it were true that he was not acting as an agent he looked like he was. Case should have no chance if given a fair hearing.
Agreed.
The fix is in.. The Gov has told Murdock and Fox, to admit any guilt. Pay out. Protect Epps.
Then Epps can claim he PROVED he is NOT a FED! In Court! And Won! It’s settled science now!
Maybe they get thrown a few Candidate or Pres interviews, and maybe a Pres debate. And can rebrand them selves as Npr-Lite.
Part of the plan.
Fox “settles,” Epps gets his reward, and the “conspiracy theory” of Jan 6 Fedsurrection is put to bed.
Epps is about to become very wealthy. It’s the Foxy thing to do😃
won’t get that far. Fox will just stroke a check.
That is why he sued fox, not tucker.
