San Francisco police linked a woman to a crime using DNA from her rape exam, D.A. Boudin says

The San Francisco police crime lab has been entering sexual assault victims’ DNA profiles in a database used to identify suspects in crimes, District Attorney Chesa Boudin said Monday, an allegation that raises legal and ethical questions regarding the privacy rights of victims.

Boudin said his office was made aware of the purported practice last week, after a woman’s DNA collected years ago as part of a rape exam was used to link her to a recent property crime.

If DNA from a rape kit were used without consent for purposes other than investigating the underlying rape case, it may be a violation of constitutional protections against unreasonable searches and seizures as well as California’s Victims’ Bill of Rights, Boudin said.

Such a practice could also create another deterrent to sexual assault victims coming forward with allegations that are already underreported to law enforcement.

“The primary concern that I and my office have ... is with detecting and preventing future crime,” Boudin said. “We want San Francisco to be as safe as possible, (and) we want survivors of sexual assault to feel comfortable and safe reporting and cooperating with law enforcement.”

Boudin said his office is not aware of how many times a sexual assault victim’s DNA may have been used to secure their arrest in a later case. Citing privacy concerns, Boudin offered few specifics about the case that he said alerted his office to the crime lab’s policy, but said it concerned a woman who received a rape exam in a domestic violence and sexual abuse case years ago.

The woman, Boudin said, was recently arrested on suspicion of a felony property crime, with police identifying her based on the rape-kit evidence she gave as a victim, Boudin said.

This sounds bad on the surface,

but the govt has my prints from my concealed permit, and clearance requirements.

It would not surprise me at all to find out covid tests are a massive dna collection drive

Seems borderline like a 5th Amendment case.

“I’ve been a victim of a crime!”
“C’mon over here. We’ll collect some evidence and, if we can, we’ll convict you of something.”

They put all DNA into CODIS. That’s the way they find a match to a rapist.

It’s not rocket science.

They used to take baby’s foot and finger prints, now they’ll just take a DNA sample.

Yup. And when a cop randomly stops you to demand ID they’ll go nuts if you don’t give it up so they can run you for warrants.

All that matters is hitting their quota.

What if a cop recognized her face from dealing with her after the rape, as a gal in a video from a felony theft?

Either way, DNA or her pretty face, being a victim in one case, leads to her being charged in another.

After being a victim in one crime, she apparently has no problem victimizing others.

I’ve asked this on another thread.

Those of us old folk, that are snookered in colo guard, stool tests. Wipe and send it in to see if you have colon cancer, etc.

Those apparently look in your DNA for indicators. Could big brother have teamed up with big pharma to build its DNA database this way ???

Good.

Anyone who gives dna samples to tests have it entered into fed databases at some point and used for criminal scans.

Military and lots of fedgov folks who are not in felon databases are included in sample searches because they have it on file. They make it legal to do so and pull stuff in from every source they can get, that has a solid chain of custody.

No worse taking it from rape samples than any other voluntarily offered sample. Perhaps dont be a criminal.

Have you not heard that china is using the kits to build dna databases of various races to use in their bioweapons programs?

The testing companies are largely chinese, the ones you send samples to.

I trust the Chinese govt as much as I trust ours at this point.

Probably a joint venture.

How many people have they arrested because their relative sent a DNA sample to one of the “ancestry” sites?

Not trusting the government has been declared domestic terrorism. Prepare for a visitation from the FBI.

A doctor in Idaho Falls was arrested when lots of people in town from different families had related DNA...his DNA. Fertility clinic. He provided the "seed". The Ancestry DNA hints were spot on.

One specific case from Idaho Falls Woman, 36, discovers her 'biological father is her mother's fertility doctor who secretly used his own sperm to impregnate her' after taking Ancestry.com DNA test

They don't check your DNA on those stool tests. Continue doing them...it could save your life from colon cancer.
