Two-thirds of Americans feel the country is going in the wrong direction. The financial markets are in upheaval, sending waves of uncertainty through the economy and almost certainly through your home. Inflation is raging. Consumer spending is falling. Three-quarters of Americans say that they are suffering from “COVID news fatigue,” impatience with the ceaseless worry about the virus. The two parties are fighting more than ever. Sensible people are raising the specter of “civil war.” Sober people are worrying about real war with Russia and maybe someday with China.
And yet GDP is rising by an annual rate of 6.7 percent, an astonishing figure during a pandemic. Unemployment remains below 4 percent, by traditional measures signaling “full employment.” The country is basically at peace. Omicron spread through the country like a cyclone but seems to be easing up. Sensible, sober people are employing the phrase “endemic” instead of “pandemic.”
With all that good news, the pollster John Zogby, citing what he called “some of the most dismal feelings and evaluations that we’ve ever seen,” produced a half-hour podcast the other day titled Why Aren’t We Happy?

Freedom to choose is a wonderful American trait. You can choose your boat, I can choose a bigger ship. And we both be happy and not get on each others nerves.
...otherwise everything is fine.
Besides I have heard on those things they can not make a decent egg and anchovy sandwich.
:sniff:
Barbaric!
Just for the week? Holding back for the rest of the month?
Because we are living in a soft coup.
It’s the double standard:
A guy wearing a buffalo hat is sentenced to 41 months in prison for trespassing (On top of being held for months without bail.).
Meanwhile, Mrs. Bill Clinton is free after giving, through negligence, the Russians thousands and thousands of Secret and Top-Secret documents.
Meanwhile, the professor who threw the Molotov Cocktail into a police SUV with 5 policemen inside got 31 hours of community service.
Meanwhile, Jane Fonda is still free after committing Treason 50 years ago. (Proves the tolerance of the Right though.)
Why not happy?
I would just get banned for saying it.
Tomorrow will get a couple more cases I think
That should carry you into next week. Hope for the best, plan for the worst; unless you’re in Texas.
Because my $10 steak costs $30.
Why?
Decades of:
Prop. a. Ganda.
I still have the still and a surplus of bags of sugar for that worst case scenario
WTF should we be happy right now?
“And yet GDP is rising by an annual rate of 6.7 percent,”
No, it isn’t. It was knocked flat on it’s back for two years and it beginning to reopen. It is being pumped full of borrowed cash. That is not a “rise”.
A heroin addict feels good briefly when they get that badly needed hit.
I’ll tell ya why. I work in psychiatry.
No faith. 3/4 of the people I see have no belief in a higher power. Therefore, they are left unto themselves to deal with the misery in their lives.
Families are absolutely and have been fractured for decades. People don’t know their grandparents. They usually have one or both parents who have run off and left. It’s like a wasteland in terms of the relationships many people have with their families of origin.
People have been raised without any sort of moral compass. No moral code. The worse of the human soul and human condition rises up to fill the vacuum.
That’s why.
“What difference does it make?”
If you have to ask that question you’ll never know the answer.
“Proves the tolerance of the right, though.”
Beware the fury of patient men.

Good points.
Anyone can have good time and look prosperous using credit cards. It never ends well.
