Cardinal Tobin is deliberately mischaracterizing what the Catechism says:
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.It is those who merely suffer from deep-seated homosexual tendencies that are to be treated with respect, compassion, and sensitivity; not those who deliberately and willfully choose to engage in homosexual acts, i.e. "LGTB people." Their actions under no circumstances can be approved. Rather, they are called to chastity. The cardinal is deliberately blurring the distinction between those who suffer from the temptation to sin and struggle against it, and those who willfully engage in it. The latter is a mortal sin and, if unrepented, leads to eternal damnation. Our love for them demands that we call them out of their sinful lifestyle; love for them, not hatred. This is the true teaching of the Catholic Church.2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. I have a predisposition to anger. If we were to follow the model of the alphabet-soup people, I should not only be excused in my anger, but celebrated in it especially should I indulge in wanton violence. By that model, I should take pride in my anger. Let’s have a month dedicated to anger! Maybe a flag!

Im glad as hell I don’t have apologists for my sins making it seem as though Christ is in His Heaven weeping over my wonderfulness. These people ar self deluding lunatics.
I’m not seeing anything objectionable here. This is simply a statement about protecting gay kids from harassment, bullying or violence. I don’t want to see them beaten up either. I’m not buying the line that violence against them is occurring “at an alarming rate,” however. If anything kids who come out as gay or trans are enabled and exalted these days. It’s not good for them. That’s what I find alarming.
I do know that these bishops are promoting a more pernicious agenda of religious and social acceptance of homosexuality. Rainbow flags at the front of churches, open gays at the head of parish councils, “Pride” events held at the church ... it is truly Sodom and Gomorrah all over again.
