Good piece.

Conservative doesn't necessarily mean Religious Conservative.

Conservative doesn't necessarily mean Religious Conservative.

Most conservatives prefer religious leader because they have a solid value system. The ala carte Christians of the left leave open the possibility of relativism. Relativism is why it is difficult for most conservatives to accept Rudy and the Democrats.

Not necessarily by definition... but that kind of conservative winds up being tightfisted, amoral, and not worthy of consideration.

I agree. Bob Dole is a classic example of a perfect conservative with no curb appeal. Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Chuck Hagel, et all are in the same boat. McCain is a contender but has his flaws and lack of crossover appeal.

Rudy has East Coast appeal, he can kill the hidabeast in her own backyard. He has a very positive image from his handling of 9/11. He took on crime in NYC and won. He takes a very hard stand against terrorism.

The hard nosed purists that only test their candidates by the abortion issue can enable the hildabeast by opposing a candidate that can beat "it" purely on a one dimensional issue.

Exactly.

The good thing about all this dissent and bellyaching is that the more bellyachers and critics he attracts, the more $ he will draw in and more support he will garner.

"Under Giuliani, the city gained some 430,000 new jobs to reach its all-time employment peak of 3.72 million jobs in 2000, while the unemployment rate plummeted from 10.3 to 5.1 percent."

I guess we then have to give Clinton credit for the budget surplus then? When Rudy left office what was the deficit? Bill Clintoon was as amazing as Rudy was.

$2-billion deficit and a $42-billion debt.?

This guy is amazing. St. Rudy!

Conservative doesn't necessarily mean Religious Conservative.

Would you call Reagan a religious conservative? I want a Reaganite, not a reversion to pre-Reagan Republicanism.

You're right, and I say that often, but Rudy's also a gun-grabber, and not particularly fiscally conservative, either.

If that's the case, apparently there's such a thing as a Clinton conservative these days.

"Conservative doesn't necessarily mean Religious Conservative."

I would suggest that there is a movement afoot to drive a wedge between social and economic conservatives. This effort will be detrimental to to both halves of the party and the only measurable result will be the election of liberals.

Pro life concepts certainly didn't come from nonreligious ideology.

This is all an attempt to breakdown the conservative fabric and to make possible the growth of moral relativism.

Divine law supports much of the conservative social framework.
