Yes, Rudy Giuliani Is a Conservative
City Journal ^ | Jan.25, '07 | Steven Malanga

Personally, I prefer Tancredo although I admire "America's Mayor," and this article sheds some light on Rudy's little known conservative and courageous accomplishments.

How does Duncan Hunter get around post 73.

He doesn't. He may be angling for a VP slot or cabinet position.

Thats why he's 200-1 on Tradespot.

The problem is that like it or not, W is crashing in the polls, and people want change, and he's seen by non-hardcore political junkies as a conservative.

People want a change from that. You and I could say real conservatism hasn't been around in DC, but that's not dealing with the reality as most voters perceive it.

In 2008, all of these debates we have here about what is or isn't a conservative will mean absolutely diddly if it comes down to Rudy v. HRC.

We have to deal with reality, not what we wish were true, but what IS.

I will never vote for a Democrat again. I will try to get a conservative Republican presidential candidate, but WHOEVER the Republican is, he's getting my vote.

I'm an Anyone But HRC voter myself.

Fine, but the question now is who do we run against her? First choice should be someone in the mold of Reagan, not Rockefeller.

Why can't the RINOs compromise?

The RINOs have been compromising for years -- with the far right wing of this party.

That's worked out well so far, hasn't it?

You're right, and I say that often, but Rudy's also a gun-grabber, and not particularly fiscally conservative, either.

I think it's pretty clear that Reagan wanted the votes of religious conservatives, but I've seen scant evidence he was a religious conservative, or that he led as one.

"They are no different than Democrats."

Well, besides opposing government funding of anti-Christian art, cutting taxes, school choice, restructuring social security, opposing hillary care, opposing Kyoto, supporting Israel, supporting Democracy in Iraq, ANWR drilling, standing up the thugs at the UN, and killing Revolutionary Islamists around the globe, I think you have a point.

Is that too complicated for the rest of the "conservatives" here to understand?

Maybe they should think of the CONSEQUENCES if SHILLARY was elected.

Unelectable.

There's no question that Republican social liberals (also known as Rockefeller Republicans)love Rudy. Wacky social experiments like unrestricted abortion, the radical gay agenda, thought-control hate crimes, gun confiscation, and euthanasia appeal to their "progressive" natures.

And they are confident Rudy will deliver on all counts.

If he doesn't, Hillary will. A Hillary-Rudy final in 2008 is a win-win for them.

It's a lose-lose for the rest of us.

I've seen scant evidence he was a religious conservative, or that he led as one.

Fine, then what you're admitting that being opposed to abortion doesn't make you a "religious conservative." Because Reagan was strongly pro-life, he even wrote an anti-abortion book while he was president ("Abortion and the Conscience of the Nation"). That didn't make him a "religious conservative." I don't want a "religious conservative" as our nominee, but I DO want a Reaganite, and that means someone who's conservative on social as well as economic and defense issues.

Who cares about consequences like San Fran Nan and Comrade Clinton implementing a government takeover of health care, or Iranian nukes going off in our cities. Gay marriage and abortion are the only two issues that matter. /s

Well, I'm against abortion and I'm an atheist, so I don't see how that makes one a religious conservative.

I don't understand this compromising to win, strategy change. We should be a guiding light, standing up for what is right in America. People should be able to look at a conservative and a liberal and immediately see the difference. When you have to argue on degree of conservatism, something is wrong.
