we can look back on today as the day it all began, and thank those "conservatives" who stayed home....

Or SPLIT THEIR TICKET.  That is what happened.  The Republican's split their ticket.......

I understand your frustration, I, too, watched the television with the hope that all would turn out well. But the margins were way too big to explain by people who normally vote Republican voting Libertarian. In every election, there are about 40-45 percent hard-core Democrats, and 40-45 percent hard-core Republicans (your mileage may vary by region) and its that mushy middle who determines the outcome.

This time, they got freaked out by Iraq. Nothing more. Gay marriage lost everywhere it appeared on the ballot, including Wisconsin, where I expected that it might prevail. Same with "partner" benefits in Colorado, where I expected that people might feel comfortable voting "No" on gay marriage, but "Yes" on civil unions, domestic partnerships, call them what you want.

Frankly, when I signed on to the war with Iraq, I did not envision what took place. I really expected our President to deal with both the Shia and the Sunni resistance decisively, I certainly did not expect the number of American dead that we've sustained to go unpunished.

This was a vote against politically correct warfare, that's all it comes down to. If GWB had nuked Fallujah the minute we saw pictures of dead burnt bodies of US contractors hanging from that bridge, we'd have killed a fair number of insurgents, saved the lives of US military who had to take that city in house-to-house fighting, and he would have been forgiven by people who were initially shocked. Anyone who hates Bush for the war would not have hated him any more. Furthermore, we'd have put a mighty fear in the hearts of our opponents in Iraq, and would likely have crushed the resistance.

This was a vote against fighting a war in the fashion we fought Vietnam, and future leaders would do well to take note.

I whole-heartedly agree.

The ones who are calling you a whiner just don't realize how serious this is at this point in history.

(And just maybe they're the Republican vote cut-and-runners you're talking about; they doth protest too much.)

The American voters are the same disloyal, feckless, spiteful, and ungrateful bastards who sent me to Vietnam, and then threw Baggies full of s*** at me when I came home. They are the same ones who say they "support the troops but oppose the war" and talk down to my son, my nieces, and my nephews who wear the uniform. They are the ones who elected the Congress that voted to cut and run in 1974, and they have now elected the next cut-and-run Congress in 2006. They have chosen to squander the lives of our children and waste their heroic sacrifice. The only thing I can say good about them is that they only sacrificed 3,000 of our children to no end instead of 52,000. This country has shown itself to be truly unworthy of its defenders. They deserve the jihadist attacks on America that will inevitably follow our withdrawal from Iraq. To those who voted yesterday: f*** you, you're on your own dealing with al-Qaeda. My family will not contribute one more drop of our blood to your defense. We will no longer do your dirty work. You've always hated us. Fine. We hate you, too.

I'm another one of those conservative "retard" voters that pulled the lever "R".

This is not a complicated thing, nor is it an end of the country.

The Republicans had plenty of time to differentiate themselves from run-of-the-mill liberals, they refused to do it.

America doesn't want what the GOP was selling. They weren't selling conservatism, that much is for sure. Would a conservative platform have made a difference? We won't ever know - the GOP didn't try it. Maybe next time.

Those 2 paragraphs are worth repeating

I personally think we are safe until the day after pelosis' coronation, then the islamist will hit us hard and fast to see how this new congress responds ( i.e. spain)......

Nancy better find a brass set.

To those who voted yesterday: f*** you, you're on your own dealing with al-Qaeda.

I expect the Dems to do the same sort of crap they did to ensure we couldn't finish the job in VietNam. I expect them to do their best to make us look like we can't win militariliy or do what needs to be done. (Because, I guess, our leaders in Congress won't.) Al Qaeda and other terrorists out there will use the respite to plot more attacks on the US. I really believe the Dem leadership does not care about the threat. (Can we call it what it is? Islam's war on everything and everyone else.) And I believe their voters really don't believe there's a threat, especially since some of them believe George Bush flew the planes into the WTC by remote control. The people get the government they deserve.

I wouldn't get so hacked off. Elections come, elections go. In just two short years, the circus will once again come to town. And we'll get yet another stab at the brass ring. If Democratic victories were synonymous with impending doom, the Republic would have come crashing down a long time ago.

I am so disgusted and ashamed of America right now I can’t even hardly type. I can’t sleep either. I can not make myself even process the fact that in a time of war, the most serious and most difficult war in America’s HISTORY, the people of America are so weak and gutless that they can’t support the one single party with the ability to do what needs to be done to win and protect the country.

We had a bad night. Life will go on. It's not worth making yourself sick over. I made that mistake once, when the Senate failed to remove Clinton from the office in 1998. My father made that mistake once when Gore tried to steal the election. Do you know what that got the both of us? A really bad migraine and a completely blown weekend. We tried, and we had a lot working against us tonight.

Sometimes, life is just not fair. In Minnesota tonight, Mary Kiffmeyer (Secretary of State) lost. She didn't deserve it. In West Virginia tonight, Robert Byrd won. He didn't deserve it.

Rush Limbaugh has said recently that he learned not to get too worried about things that are out of your control. That's why he doesn't sweat the media idiots.

Get some sleep, and take a break from the computer for a couple of weeks. It'll do you some good. And remember, these dingbats are not elected for life. We'll get another chance to clobber them in two years.

"This was a vote against politically correct warfare"

I think you have a good point here. The democrats did run an effective, coordinated, national campaign against the war. It worked.

Nation building is not good policy. When the democrats de-fund the war efforts, we'll see just how much Iraqi's and Afgani's really want freedom and democracy.

Y'know, I had this thought while seeing the election returns, has President Bush made us "too" safe? Has the fact that there have been no successful terrorist attacks for five years lulled the American people into thinking it was a one-shot deal? What if those terrorists planning an attack on British airliners heading for the US had been even partially successful? Their plan was to detonate the aircraft over the US, we could have easily blamed the security problems on the British.

Thomas Jefferson said that "the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Perhaps there were not enough of our fellow citizens dying to remind the rest of the sheep about that fact. Perhaps President Bush was the victim of his own success.

I share your anger at the so-called "conservatives" who didn't vote. I can't believe they did this to our military- especially after the John Kerry comment. I am disgusted, totally disgusted with them.

As a matter of fact- I think I'll protest them by staying home in '08. I might even sign up to drive the rats to the polls, since the "conservative" protesters tell me the way to victory for conservatives is to let the rats win.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhh!!

I don't think they can even begin to realize the damage they have done to our nation. The price for this is going to be sky high.

"The fact is the Republicans didn't deserve to win."

There you have it. They failed us on many levels. I think it is more of a comment on the republicans in congress than on the president and Iraq.

The only thing I can say good about them is that they only sacrificed 3,000 of our children to no end instead of 52,000.

Look on the bright side. If Islam's holy warriors come calling yet again, they'll be hitting the blue states yet again, which is another way of saying that the red states are probably safe. Why? Because that's how you can kill the most people in one sitting - by attacking densely populated cities. I don't wish it on blue staters, but the sad reality that seems to have eluded them is that they are in the crosshairs, whether they believe it or not.

"I’m really afraid that America might just have died with this election. '

Excellent post. Dead on right. I guess the dumbed down voters (of both parties) need to see how many more terrorist attacks will land on American soil. I guess we really don't need to save any money or enjoy what we make. But hey, it's much more important to know that your child can marry either Nancy or Michael, they have the choice that is so fashionable in the elite corridors of San Francisco.

I'd be better off quitting my high-paying job as a registered nurse and trade it in to be a cashier at Walmart. I'd make less money, pay less tax, probably get a tax cut and of course, massive free free free healthcare! I just wouldn't be able to use my professional credentials or make a higher salary. The rats will see to my every need if I just bow out of my profession and become a simple blue-collar worker. There is never going to be a need for any American to ever attain higher education or aspire to a profession, since the rats will ensure they will never get anywhere. All we earn will go to the socialist cause, free health care, free free free!

What a F------ mess. Why not just hire the World workers' party to "run things"? What embassy will Soros run? What part of our national security will Moveon.org decide to do away with? The CIA? Great! Goodbye Dept of Homeland Security. That bird won't fly, under the new neoMarxist order of America.

God help us all.
