Once again the shooting started when the police stormed the building. Whatever happened to hostage negotiators? When will the police learn that they can't do everything by force. This might have turned out differently if it was handled differently.

You don't know the whole story: Wait for it.

No, that's not right. I understood they were trying to contact him, he called dispatch and gave them 10 seconds to back off, they tried calling him on the cell phone and order a the line to back down...and he started shooting in less than 10 seconds.

When shots were fired they stormed the building.

Will you PLEASE pay closer attention to the news before accusing the cops of doing something wrong here? First of all, the guy OBVIOUSLY was there to kill and not negotiate. Second, the cops were establishing a perimeter upon their arrival and then the perp asked them to move back. They were in the process of doing such when the shooting started. ONLY THEN did they rush the schoolhouse, and for good reason.

I would seriously hope you ask the mods to pull your post.

You might want to work on your comprehension skills. The shooting had already started BEFORE they stormed the building.

The HOSTAGE NEGOTIATOR tried to ring him on his cell phone, the number which the got from the radio station he called saying he was going to start shooting in 10 seconds if the police didn't leave. At that exact moment that the negotiator tried to call him, the guy started killing, execution style, the little girls. The police then stormed the building, but he had barricaded the doors. By the time they were able to get in through the windows, he had killed himself and a bunch of children.

They got the guy on his cell - they had their #1 negotiator ready - but that's when he gave his 10-second warning and started executing the kids - and that's when the cops assaulted the building...

This guy had a plan to kill and the cops did not cause the deaths...

And especially post-Columbine, the cops know they can't just wait these killers out...

Unlike Columbine, where the police were nice enough to wait until the killers had finished murdering students and killed themselves before they went in.

The police are NOT at fault here!

I doubt very seriously that they just stormed in without tying to negotiate. From what I read, they had established contact. I don't know how long they'd been talking to him, but he told them that he was going to count to 10, then start shooting. That's when they broke in. What were they supposed to do, just sit there, let him finish his count and have the time and freedom to kill ALL of them? At least the attack threw him off and his aim on the last few wasn't as good.

It stinks, but the killer left home this morning planning not to return, and the police had to deal with it as best they could.

Yeah, it may have turned out differently. All of them might have been killed instead of some clinging to life. He had already set the little girls up for execution and himself for suicide - he had no intention of negotiating anything.
