I don't know what effect -- if any -- the poll will have on the future of this website's science threads. But it's certainly worth while to know the general attitude of the people who frequent this website.
Science isn't a democracy, and the value of scientific theories isn't something that's voted upon. The outcome of this poll won't have any scientific importance. But the poll is important because this is a political website. How we decide to educate our children is a very important issue. It's also important whether the political parties decide to take a position on this. (I don't think they should, but it may be happening anyway.)
If you have an opinion on this subject, go ahead and vote.
Well, thank you for your kind words. I don't believe I'm "out there" on evolution, just wanted someone to explain why there are no additional transitionals in the fossil record. That was my only question throughout the thread. I accept the tennets of evolution for as far as the theory explains certain things. But, as a thinking person I have questions about other facets of the theory.
I will tell my son of your thanks when he next calls from Baghdad. I also have a nephew who has already served one tour in Iraq, and another who is there now. And now, my other son is planning on enlisting in the Army. Too much to deal with at times, but we keep on anyway. God Bless and good night.
And if state law mandates the teaching of science, it is a high crime, exposing the perps to impeachment by the state legislature. It is also fraud, whcih opens up the school board and its individual members to lawsuits by the ripped-off teachers, parents, and students.
You're going to have to learn to live with the fact that approx. 299 of every 300 biologists say that evolution is an important, well-tested part of biology. School boards and legislatures have neither the authority nor the competence to decide what science is.
I must say that evolution falls under everyday language.
Sorry, I can't agree with that. The theory of evolution has been supported by new data and tests for 150 years, and is stronger than ever.

You're probably right. Tell you're son there's a hell of a lot of people around here rootin' for them. Like a lot of people around here, I know plenty of folks who have been there or are there now. (Some military and a some civi contractors.) They have the support of even a stiff-necked evil-utionist like me.
I'll have to disagree with you about fossils. Fossil evidence gives us a good picture of how life has changed over millions of years. Genetic analysis tends to agree with our interpretation of fossil evidence. Do we have every single fossil of every kind of animal or plant? Of course not. But we have a great many, and it is possible for us to piece together large portions of the jigsaw puzzle.
No, just those of us that understand science.
They really are clueless as to how they look to others that might look at the Republican party as an actual home for their ideas and votes.
When they see the extremists claiming that you cannot be a conservative unless you are a creationist, you see the tent getting smaller and smaller.
Then again, the Dem's are getting just as extreme, so maybe a third party is not out of the realm of possibilities.
Because if the Republican party is actually going to only accept creationists as conseratives, the Republican party is going to be in a world of hurt, very shortly.
They have the authority, the problem is that they don't have the competence.

Thank you for your kind words regarding my son. His job places him directly in harms way (combat operations). Whenever he is not able to communicate for long stretches we become extremely anxious. We've also know quite a few young men and women who've served over there or Afghanistan, or both. There are about 14 students my two sons wrestled with in Junior High and High School who've been there.
Just so you know, I don't completely disagree with the "evidence" of evolution (not evilution). I'm just looking for explanation for why further evidence has not yet been located. I may have given impressions about me which aren't really true, but then sometimes debate requires playing devils advocate :o) For anything I said which might have been taken in offence I appologize. Healthy debate is what this should be all about.
For those of you that don't know what he is talking about, Absorbic acid is vitamin C.
The stuff you get from fruit, and since our ancestors ate a whole lot of fruit, creating it ourselves didn't matter, so the gene that allowed us to create vitamin C on our own, was shut off, and didn't make a bit of difference.

I'm Gulf War era. Our sister regiment was there and my unit had been mobilized but we had not deployed by the time the 100 hours was reached. Yesterday I was wondering how much farther along Iraq would be now if we hadn't had stopped the invasion then.
