Free Republic Poll on Evolution
Free Republic ^ | 22 September 2006 | Vanity

Posted on 09/22/2006 2:09:33 PM PDT by PatrickHenry

Free Republic is currently running a poll on this subject:

Do you think creationism or intelligent design should be taught in science classes in secondary public schools as a competing scientific theory to evolution?
You can find the poll at the bottom of your "self search" page, also titled "My Comments," where you go to look for posts you've received.

I don't know what effect -- if any -- the poll will have on the future of this website's science threads. But it's certainly worth while to know the general attitude of the people who frequent this website.

Science isn't a democracy, and the value of scientific theories isn't something that's voted upon. The outcome of this poll won't have any scientific importance. But the poll is important because this is a political website. How we decide to educate our children is a very important issue. It's also important whether the political parties decide to take a position on this. (I don't think they should, but it may be happening anyway.)

If you have an opinion on this subject, go ahead and vote.

My views on this are known, but my little essay was very even-handed. Everybody be nice.

It's one of those things I can't really vote on because I've got mixed feelings all around.

You Science Folks have pushing your agenda for 600 years and have proven Nothing. In that time there has not been one scientific or medical advancement achieved that was based on Evolution.

Modern biology is based on evolutionary principles. You don't hear credible scientists say "oh well, that is what the lord designed the DNA. Lets not make him angry by analyzing the sequences."

I think most conservative pols don't care enough to make it an issue; but I think liberal pols despise Christianity and will use anything they can get their hands on to try to discredit it. The libs are forcing the issue.

Did I forget to say that the World is Flat and that we are at the center of the Universe?

It can be hard to distinguish reality from parody at times.

"Do you think creationism or intelligent design should be taught in science classes in secondary public schools as a competing scientific theory to evolution?"

I am new here so let me start by saying that I am a Christian and attend services twice weekly. I also do not believe that anything that cannot be scientifically proven as fact ought to be taught as such in school. If they want Evolution and ID taught in school, perhaps ohilosophy class would be a good place for that.

What's next, biology being taught in the Sanctuary?

Probably not. Lots of people think like that. It's one of the reasons that I think the evolution threads are important for this website. Anyway, I can't think of any "scientific or medical advancement achieved that was based on" creationism or ID, so even if that poster were correct about evolution -- he isn't -- he hasn't made much of a point for his competing "theories."

Vote early and vote often?

I see non-members can vote.

Prediction: based on previous experience with this, if there is a way for the anti-Evos to "overvote" in this poll, they will, and therefore the results should be suspect.

A previously conducted poll on FR revealled two anti-Evos over-voted something like a thousand times between them to queer the result.

When the overvotes from those two individuals were removed from the poll, the results indicated that FReepers supported Evolutionism over Creationism by something like a 2:1 ratio.

PH, do you have the link handy to that thread that discusses the anti-Evo's polling mendacity for the lurkers to examine and see for themselves?

Hmmm. The poll can be freeped. I just logged off, closed down my browser, cleaned out my cookies and cache, and it let me vote again.

Are they also going to give equal time to other creation myths from Scientology, Raelism, Hinduism, Islam, Shinto, Norse mythology, etc?
