ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
"What the hell does that mean in the context of this discussion?"
What it means in simple terms is that the government has no right to approve this transaction if the people are against it, no mater who threatens to sue. That is what it means, and why this deal will not go through.
Maybe this is part of an under the table deal with the Saudis and surrounding nations for our continuted military access in the ME.
It's just the millineum way of getting around a Treaty that the Senate would have to approve?
Care to share your theory as to how this issue becomes a political bonanza for the Republicans?
Seriously, you're a knowledgable guy ... I'd like to hear your take on it.
I agree and refuse to panic before I know alot more about this
CAIR on CNN
If your against this deal your anti-muslim. Here we go! Who didn't see this coming
Ooh, nice misdirection.
But, if you think the F-35 is on schedule, I have a bridge to sell you. It will be canceled. I wont argue about it.
The fact that the ports are a National Security issue, is exactly why Congress cant do anything about this deal.
I agree. I also think that there are many who are thinking more in terms of political fall out rather than security issues. At least that's the jist of what I've read here, though I must admit, after page one, I'm confused and wondering whether or not freerepublic has morphed into the DU.
Countries don't have friends; they have interests. And the UAE has worked with the US since 9/11 in the war on terror, better than any other Arab country.
"government has no right to approve this transaction if the people are against it,"
"Read my lipps, no foreign-owned ports,...except."
"Lawmakers, he said, must 'step up and explain why a Middle Eastern company is held to a different standard."
sounds like a thinly veiled charge of racism...
Don't forget xenophobic and bigoted. Those charges came out pretty early in the debate.
It will be in my next big rant.
This statement is from one of the posts in this thread.
I wasn't aware of this fact.
But as soon as read it, I was taken to the image of Pres. Bushs' worried yet furtive eye movements while he remained sitting in the classroom during the first minutes of 9/11.
Britain is our friend.
I just don't trust the politicians who say this is a temporary plan. There is nothing temporary about it. They are like squatters who will never leave unless forced out.
The "Patriot act" gives the government the right to physically search American citizens, listen to their phone calls and read their emails, and soon demand "papers" at the US Canadian borders.
It is not about closing borders or following and deporting those here with no current visas.
It is about treating "Patriots" as suspicious and giving the store to illegal citizens and foreign nations that hate America .
I'm curious why there wasn't an eligible and interested US company in the bidding for this deal.
Blood bath.
I think I'll forego my bath and take a hot shower...lol.
Be sure you read the lucid comments from Charles: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1582942/posts?page=918#918
It will be in my next big rant.
Awww, share an excerpt now. I'm about to leave.
