I'll bet Bush's two national election victories and two confirmed conservative Supreme Court Justices that you are witnessing yet another game where he holds his cards until his opponents have shown all of theirs.
When the facts about port management come out, all the Know-Nothings will shamelessly move on to the next non-issue of the day. This is simply another comical example of rabid lemmings following each other over a cliff in profound ignorance.

Like you, I have repeatedly stated that on its face, this deal stink, but we do not have facts yet.
As for the talk of impeachment and Bushing bashing, the latter is par for the course here everyday. It's the oxygen for some posters.

I think what's happened here is this deal has uncovered a significant amount of frustration in the electorate vis-a-vis the War on Terror, the Homeland Security apparatus, border protection, and other national security issues. We've had a color-coded terror threat assessment chart hanging over our head for four years now, we keep hearing about the War on Terror, and yet the borders are an absolute seive -- but we've gotta be listening in on phone conversations without a court order. The message being: You can get the device inside the United States, but we'll eavesdrop on your phone calls if you do! (Scared yet?)
So the port deal comes along, and everyone is like WTF? Is there or isn't there a war on terror? Whether or not that's a rational reaction, it's an understandable one, given the lack of information regarding the actual terrorist threat to the United States? Is there one? It's time for the White House to lay a card or two on the table - and I'm not talking about Library Tower 2001. Either stop pumping the WOT or act like it matters. Until the borders are taken seriously, I can't take the WOT seriously, and frankly, our ports are just another name for "border entry". I'm willing to believe this is innocuous up and down. But if this is acceptable, what else is and what else should be?

Right. And we should never let companies from the Middle East own flight schools in the U.S., because we all know that U.S. flight schools would NEVER accept Muslims who are only interested in flying passenger jets into tall buildings.

His first veto would to insure that US ports are run by an Arab government company. Pathetic. If he does this it will be a stick into the eye of his base and will be a lot worse than Miers-gate.

I think it's foolish to assume that Bush made these decisions without any sort of thought process involved. So apparently, people now believe the liberals, and agree that Bush can't think on his own? How about we get the facts first. Here's some interesting things to consider:
1. The UAE is on our side on the war on terrorism. We need to keep them on our side.
2. Security is still completely run by the Department of Homeland Security.
3. The critics, including the Republican critics all have political points that they hope to gain by calling Bush an idiot. Democrats hope to look like they are big on security. Rather though, they will just look like a bunch of racist.
4. The deal has been extensively examined by the administration. I believe that.
Bush said something interesting: "They ought to listen to what I have to say about this. They'll look at the facts and understand the consequences of what they're going to do. But if they pass a law, I'll deal with it with a veto."
can anyone explain to me why this story has caused so much problem when no one seemed to give a damn when Carter gave away the Panama Canal and the Chinese Communists took over both ends of the Canal ?
oh, I understand the present questions, just find it interesting there was so little grief at the Panama Canal turnover to the Chicoms.

How about a slightly different take:
I served in the USN, was off the coast of Yemen during their civil war. We had to refuel in Saudi, Jeddah. They wouldn't let us off the ship. Not even on the pier. Didn't want us fouling up their paradise.
Try building a Christian Church anywhere in the region. Good luck. I don't know the facts, but I'm certain their rules on doing business with them are similarly as restrictive.

I was absolutely against this deal until reading posts like yours. I admit to forming my opinion before the facts were in.

LOL! My feelings, too. But I think Bush should explain this to us. Actually, IIRC, all of these businesses were American-owned, and Bill Clinton was the first one to permit the sale of sensitive businesses to foreigners (with the first sale of the port business to the Brits).
Also, ports, airlines, etc. are very international businesses - many of our major airports are managed by British companies. So I doubt that this is going to have any day to day impact. Furthermore, there are many ME countries and nationals that own lots of things in the US - I believe the Bin Laden family owns some buildings in NYC.
That said, I don't think it's a bad thing for ME countries to see that Americans are less than enthusiastic about them. The UAE has been more or less supportive of the US, but like any Islamic country, their government itself is under the gun from AQ and similar forces, so I think it's good to be wary. But I think the hysteria is politically motivated and whipped up by Dems, which is a laugh, since the Dem party is the greatest Fifth Column ever seen.
