ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
Yeah, but almost everyone knew she knew little about constitutional law before that.
I missed your sarcasm and I do not have GWB pom-poms. I have remained open minded on this, merely stating that on its face it stinks. I am waiting to hear from President Bush and from all other factual sources.
I will not jump aboard the hysteria train. It's full anyway...lol.
Explain to us why this has to "be good" for you (or us pubbies)?
Iran, or anyother terrorist hell-hole hideout anywhere in the world. Congratulations for injecting some mental clarity onto a predominently hysteria-driven thread. With it's share of little known posters, as usual, as well as those who can always be counted on to knee-jerk their way ever deeper into foolishness.
We simply don't know all the facts, IMO. Certainly if the deal were to blow up in our faces (so to speak) I'd join you in the criticism line. Until it does or more facts emerge, I'll look back on the Presidents record on national security and dealing with terrorists and will keep my powder dry.
Here's another one:

I pray that there is a pill for what you've got.
This is the same spin that the Bushbots brought forth during the Harriet Miers fiasco. Say that you want to wait until all the information is out there, as if it isn't already. Say that you want a "full airing" when all you really want is for the rest of us to shut up until it's too late.
The Russians were our allies fighting the Germans but FDR didn't feel compelled to turn any of our seaports to them.

We don't have all the pieces of the puzzle, that's for sure. But I can't honestly say that I trust him, or his merry band of neocons. I used to trust them, but after the screwing they've given Israel, and their determination not to protect the borders, I don't trust them at all."
I AM A LOYAL CONSERVATIVE, BUT HAVE DECIDED THAT THE NEO-CONS ONLY CARE ABOUT ISRAEL.
They could care less about the other issues that us vaniila type conservatives care about. They all came over from the Dem party, because they couldn't support the peace-nic element. I am not sure they really qualify as conservatives, but I do think they could completely split the Republican party, and we could end up with another Perot type election mess in '08.
But, what do I know? I just watch and worry.
Well said.
From strictly a PR point of view, it is amazing how deaf, dumb, and blind GWB is on most issues.
Although PR should not dictate actions, things such as this seem a no-brainer as far as the probable reaction.
It's not blackmail. You turn on your friends because you don't like everything they do, you undermine them, you can end up with something much worse.
In 1980, President Carter took the Shah to task over civil rights issues. He put so much pressure on him that he was overthrown, putting Ayatollah Khomeni in power. Was the Shah bad? Yes. But by undercutting him, we now have the biggest threat the world has ever seen -- a muslim fanatical country with huge oil reserves, billions of dollars, and the ability to make nuclear weapons.
History suggests that if we stab our friends in the UAE in the back, the terrorists could overthrow THAT government and we could end up with another Iran. That's just a likely outcome.
The people who run our ports now are the SAME people who will run our ports when the DP World company purchases the O&P company.
US Subsidiaries -> O&P -> DP World -> UAE.
Whatever clearances are needed are owned by the people who will still be their next month.
Whatever "outsourcing" exists already exists, and has for years. There is NO CHANGE here. And in fact there is no outsourcing of security. The leases of port management are not for the security -- that is done in our country by public entities.
Which work with foreign companies in foreign ports to inspect our containers before they come here -- the majority being inspected by the UAE DP World company.
In other words, this company that people don't trust to own the company that owns the companies that manage the ports is already responsible for inspecting containers that come into our country, and has been for a while.
Ignorance is bliss, I guess.
"Yep, I'm from North Carolina, and we've been told that for the last 20 years. We just stay bent over."
CAFTA was going to HELP manufacturers in NC ... right. How many plant closings specifically attributed to CAFTA since passage? I know of about 900 jobs gone to one Central American country or the other from NC in the past two weeks.
Is there a link or report up about Alberto and Ridge? Cause I have no idea what you are referring to....thanks.
