"And this Dubai company would be informed of classified security directives from the DHS, FBI, CIA and InterPol."
Well, no. There are foreign owned firms that handle classified information (I used to work for one). When it came to security issues, the individual still needed a clearance (not given to foreigners) and need-to-know. There was no way the overseas guys had access to the stuff in the safes.
It would have been an illegal act to let any uncleared person see the classified stuff, and worse if they were foreign.
This stuff comes up all the time in the USA.

Thanks very much for the information. I want to have all the facts before I decide what I think about this.

However, they will have a front-row seat regarding port security.
No, they won't. They will have precisely ZERO say in port security. They will own, not operate, the ports. Period.

Muslim terrorists killed 3000 people. They were already in the U.S.,
Oh, I forgot. One was in my third grade class. Funny little chap, always squatting and bowing, flying little balsa wood planes into the side of the overflow classroom trailers.

TO STOP THIS MADNESS, WE MUST NOT ALLOW ANY SHIPS LEAVING AN UAE CONTROLLED PORT TO ARRIVE HERE TO PREVENT ANY POSSIBLE THREAT. I KNOW THAT INVOLVES HONG KONG, SINGAPORE AND SUCH, BUT WE WILL MAKE IT JUST FINE THIS CHRISTMAS WITH THE TOY AISLES EMPTY.

I have friends from Dubai & they are wonderful people. From all accounts, the 9/11 hijackers were nice, friendly folks until 9/11.

"Some may think it offensive to include "Dubai" and "kosher" in the same sentence."
Now THAT's funny! Print that in a Danish paper and you'll have "peaceful" Dubai muslims burning flags, (at bare minimum).

I have been against this....but, I would consider myself more on the fence at this point...
I have read some links provided by freepers...and get less upset...but am still uncomfortable..
BUT, I am less uncomfortable with this deal...than I am with the nastiness and vitriol emanating from this thread...(not everyone, but most)

I'm aware that UAE is a friend of this country, but where is it written that will always be the case? Then you should also be aware that this UAE company is buying a British company with contracts to operate port terminals in the U.S. -- but where is it written that these contracts will last in perpetuity, and have no termination clauses within them that could be executed if necessary?

The "republicans" who support this are the same ones who supported Harriet Miers, the prescription drug plan, Bush's proposed amnesty and selling a major U.S. oil reserve to China (luckily that was stopped.)

Are you implying Mr. Sanborn is a terrorist?

"Security will not change one iota whether it's the old British owned company or this one" Well, thanks for saying that, but can you guarantee it? Maybe you don't think it matters that the country of Dubai will now be working directly with the U.S. Coast Guard regarding national port security plans and procedures. Not exactly great information for an Arab muslim nation to have.
The UAE company will also be directly responsible for hiring security personnel and dock workers. I suppose you can guarantee they won't slip a few terrorist spies into some sensitive positions? Time to wake up and smell the coffee.
