Well, thanks for saying that, but can you guarantee it? Maybe you don't think it matters that the country of Dubai will now be working directly with the U.S. Coast Guard regarding national port security plans and procedures. Not exactly great information for an Arab muslim nation to have.
The UAE company will also be directly responsible for hiring security personnel and dock workers. I suppose you can guarantee they won't slip a few terrorist spies into some sensitive positions? Time to wake up and smell the coffee.
Even if that were happening, which is near the zero end of the reality scale, moslem nations don't work coherently enough to get anywhere except when they have a king, and you can bet the king has at least one foot firmly planted on earth. There are no central authorities on earth for moslems, so they are given to independent action. Take a look.
First , a guarantee from me is worth less than Simpsons sparrow fart in a Typhoon but I believe if anything the adherence to safety and security will be greater because of their hypersensitivity to protecting the massive investment. ALL proceedures must meet OUR criteria and are subject to Federal review and consent. Upper management will change middle mgmt and grunts will not.
The DP WOrld company already works directly with our government on security -- they inspect the containers in foreign ports before they come here.
The management of the ports will still be done by the same US subsidiaries that do so now, with the same people in charge, so the contacts they have with the Coast Guard will not change.
The same contacts already exist with MANY foreign companies, some owned by foreign governments, that operate various terminals at ports throughout the country.
We can't have a rational discussion until everybody has the actual facts.
Sounds like a bunch of people here think that Dubai is going to pack shipping containers with a bunch of knife-weilding Al-Qaida types, and once they get to the Port of New York, they'll sneak out in the dead of night and wreak havoc.
