ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
The words "Trust Me" will not suffice. Period.
***Reason has taken a back seat to hysteria, and childish attacks.***
How true is that??
From here I see a Lot of Paranoia , and on other forums outeright racial hatred and bigotry....
It's rather sad.....
Of course, you're right. The only logical explanation is a 'quid pro quo'. It still stinks to high Heaven.
hey, finally a response to my irritating posts. Thank you. I can rest now.
We deserve a detailed explanation, no slogans or "Trust Me". I thought we did away with such foolishness.
I was referring to another set of State Department comments that were very damning - I've already posted them. Stop calling me dishonest - I'm being serious.
Yes reason does seem to change over time.
The United States Is Not Acting Alone! These Are Our Allies. FreeRepublic | 2/12/2003 | DoughtyOne:
The UAE has already taken part in two peacekeeping operations, in Kosovo and Somalia, and is determined to show that its troops have the experience and high morale to make them valuable allies in any coming conflict.
An official said: "The UAE is committed to the protection of Kuwait and its sovereignty, and will do whatever is needed to carry this out." The GCC, which is comprised of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, was formed in 1986 in an attempt to give the region a common defence.
It played little military role during the 1991 Gulf War, but for several years has been looking at ways to increase the number of troops in its common defence force from 5,000 to 22,000. It has conducted intensive exercises recently.
The troops are due to arrive with Barhaini naval boats and Apache attack helicopters from the UAE within a few days. Kuwait did not announce the size or the national breakdown of the deployment but it is clearly the largest ever assembled by the six nations. The forces will come under the direct command of Kuwaiti military commanders.
Oh, and your comment is noteworthy?
>>UAE could be a staging area for airstrikes and special forces operations against Iran.
I think you are on the money there. I suspect that deploymnets in UAE and Oman both will be important in assisting the Navy in keeping the Straits of Hormuz open to the oil tankers.

Is congress charged with regulating commerce? Is shipping a commerce?
Are you sure congress has no standing?

"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question."We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."
do you not understand?
Taking satirical pokes at Hitler and the Nazis during WWII only prolonged the war and emboldened our enemies, too. /drippingsarcasm
Acceptance based on the "trust factor" should be reserved for personal relationships..not government...
Could you cite me instances of huge demonstrations in the streets by muslims condemning the 9/11 attacks?
I think the point is that even though things may be hunky dory now, what if Dubai falls to a radical element at home? Then what???
All Presidents do. He just doesn't have a line item veto.
" The opposition stems from their religion, not their skin color."
Lol, nice desperate try, Sinky.
I'd be more worried about France. Seriously.
Maybe you should clue GWB in on this reasoning and tell him that he is wasting his time as he is planning to veto any legislation by congress in the area. Why would he threaten to veto an item of legislation that is moot?
