ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
What's your nationality? I'm sure I can go back and dig up some bad stuff your ancestors did.
I suppose you blame the Jews who are alive today for the death of Christ, too.
Sinkspur, I'm with you and with President Bush on this one. Without going over all the information I've gleaned today, I'll just say that the arguments I've heard in favor of this plan far outweigh those I've heard against it. In fact, all the arguments against it boil down to one--"they's A-rabs!!"
So while we share the offense that Muslims have taken at these images, we at the same time vigorously defend the right of individuals to express points of view.
You don't see any problem with the first half of that statement?
Come on! Just a few skirmishes! Lets sit down and have a gyro and talk ports.
Well it helped a bit for him to have contacts with muslim terror groups in the phillipines...
Rush is just being a cheerleader. His show used to be the best - it is truly sad to see what it has become.
The competition has been fierce, but I've just got to award yours the "Dumbest Post of the Day."
We're a couple Sunday cartoon sections away from global muslim chaos. This deal is bad timing.
You have many decent arguments when dissected reveals many not so logical arguments, such as:
1. UAE owning the ports will draw more security (I ask, why should we have to do that?)
2. These ports have been run by the Brits, and up until now if a Terrorist wanted to get a weapon through those ports bad enough they could have done so. (how do you know this?)
3. We can not spend the rest of our existence hiding from the fact that a large part of the world is Arab, and if one of the extends a hand in friendship are we to slap it away or cut it off. (I'm not sure I can walk down a street in any country in the middle east without being killed because I am white, please tell me if I am wrong).
4. All Arabs did not attack us on 9-11, just as all white people did not own slaves, and not all Germans were Nazis. (all arabs didn't attack us, but all the attackers were arab)
And see my post 1982.
"If a nation is going to stop being our ally because we don't want them to own our ports then were they really our ally in the first place?"
Well said sir well said.
Okay, I'll bury the hatchet. We'll "wrassle" another day.
Obviously many here at FR do not agree with your "much ado about nothing" perspective, including myself. I for one do not think that Bush has "become ignorant" overnight. But, the fact that he has suddenly grown a veto-threatening backbone on this particular issue and is for some bewildering reason willing to fall on his sword over it, vs. many others that most conservatives would have preferred, is telling.
IMHO, this president has gotten himself into some Faustian bargain that he must now vehemently defend for some reason. Thank the founders for their foresight in giving the other branches checks and balances to weigh against one that makes a deal with the devil. Hopefully our elected representatives can get us out of this one.
Access plays havoc with reason.
If there was a democrat president promoting this, I would know it was for personal gain, not the good of the country.
Bush has gained my trust WRT this nation's security and economy.
I appreciate it. You take care.
Do you want me to post the spokesman's words?
"It is because the piers were are ships tie up to can be made secure from terrorist attacks for the most part. By the way the sailors aren't allowed away from the pier area in uniform let alone on liberty. Civilian cloths are a requirement as is the buddy system."
Oooooooh..someone who actually sounds like he knows what he is talking about.
