Posted on 02/21/2006 12:32:20 PM PST by Brian Mosely

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.

He didn't have to nor do the Arabs have to have charge of anything to blow it up. Witness the WTC.

It's accurate, and responsible to state empathy for those offended, while vigorously defending freedom of the press.

I'm leaving, EV. A day when DU trolls blend seamlessly with long time freepers in hysteria is a day to regret. When responsible dialogue is replaced by accusations of drunkenness, lies, and worse, it is a time to be ashamed.

I am embarrassed to be a part of this. Good night, EV. Pray for our President. He is God's chosen leader for this hour, and he is doing everything in his power to keep us safe.

If you don't agree.......pray harder. He has asked us to, and he needs it.

And pray for the Supreme Court decision on PBA. God's chosen leader for this nation has given us two solid pro-life justices. The tide may be turning. Please, Lord, may it be so! Amen!

This deal has gone through. Bush has approved it. Congress has no standing to overturn it. None whatsoever. Neither do the State and Local governments. One foreign company just agreed to purchase another. Only a national security argument can preclude the deal. Guess who has single authoritative power in that argument? The President. It is OVER. You folks can bitch and moan until doomsday, but you cant do a damn thing about it. Those who try, will run smack into the Supremes, who don't take kindly to bigoted arguments.

'Robust trade' and selling out to big money and multinationals, to the all mighty dollar, seems to trump or be on equal footing to our national security for Bush's handlers and political hacks, like the 'Homeland Security Director.' Along with political correctness and inane diplomatic niceties, this moderate administration is becoming a big dissapointment in agressively waging the war on terror, protecting our borders and entry points, and protecting the welfare of average Americans to this Conservative who voted for them as the lesser of evils over the Leftist, Socialist, appeasing Demoncrats.

Like I said... if you desire red herrings go to Pike Street. Otherwise have a good evening.

As to having "access" it sure makes it easier...

When hysteria replaces reason, it is a bad day for all conservatives.

The trouble is, you can't tell the 'conservatives' from the trolls today.

A BAD day for rational discussion and truth.

Fortunately.......it's over.

Perhaps.

But I have learned over time that in politics just the opposite is true, usually because the MSM does such a bang up job framing arguments against Conservative and GOP leaders. I do not see political leaders in this country as all that powerful. Groups of leaders can effect change, but one person can not.

Truth be told, the President has lived up to my hopes and in fact has exceeded them. I was lukewarm on the President in 2000 at best. I am a realist and have very low expectations of politicians in general. They have little bearing on my day to day life, which is how I like it. So I admire a generally honest, generally headed in the right direction, generally interested in making the world a better place kind of president.

Because of that, I'm pretty happy. You may be right, but being an optimist, and a realist at the same time...this is working out for me.

Anyway, I really appreciate your fairness. If I am wrong in the long run, consider this a "you told me so" in advance, credit where credit is due!

After reading a couple of the threads and thinking about things a bit I would propose as an educated guess the following:

1) The US is considering plans to invade or bomb Iran if negotiations fail.

2) If that were to occur the second worse thing that could occur (the first being Iranian use of a nuclear device) would be if the Iranians could successfully prevent oil tankers from going through the Straits of Hormuz. The removal of 13 million barrels of day from the world markets would be quite a shock to the world economies.

As can be seen from this graphic, UAE along with part of Oman is on one side of the Straits if Hormuz. Iran is on the other.

My guess is that we would benefit by having access to fields on UAE and likely Oman as well to support our ships trying to keep the strait safe for oil tankers in the event of conflict, perhaps for additional landing fields for planes and/or for antimissile batteries.

Though I don't think a deal was ever present (port control for bases) if the port deal doesn't go through the UAE government may be unwilling to allow the US to make use of UAE soil in the event of conflict with Iran. Certainly UAE would be making itself a potential target. Perhaps the potential for refusal has been privately communicated to the Bush administration by the UAE government

And EV, I am surprised at you for encouraging Jeff's dishonesty. I thought more of you than that.

Of course you didn't quote these remarks.

"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question.

"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."

FR Thread

BTW, don't call me dishonest again unless you know what I am talking about.

So, the wires have already cleared in all of the offshore bank accounts?

I would bet that more than half the members here have no idea what is in the Constitution.

Make that 51% since you obviously forgot to include yourself.

Snore. Responsible dialogue follows responsible actionas. Yeah, take a breather. Its better to hole up and fade away. Reminds of that priest on the Posiedon that was leading the people down saying it was better to sit and wait for help, and then Gene Hackman, the crusading agressive priest said, 'wait h*ll,' and start leading his small party up.
