Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri has vetoed a "medical marijuana" bill, saying it would encourage marijuana use and criminal activity. His veto comes as an anti-drug group has released dramatic video footage of a marijuana activist declaring that he uses dope for a health problem that he doesn't really have. The bottom line for this activist, Ed Rosenthal, is that "I like to get high. Marijuana is fun." The video has the potential of dealing a major blow to the "medical marijuana" movement, largely funded by billionaire George Soros.
The video footage, posted at the website http://www.sorosmonitor.com, gives the lie to the claim that we often see in the media that smoking marijuana is a legitimate medical treatment for people with diseases. Rosenthal, who was associated with High Times magazine for many years, is shown speaking to dozens of marijuana activists. "With all the talk about medical marijuana, I have to tell you that I also use marijuana medically (laughter)," he says. "I have a latent glaucoma, which has never been diagnosed (more laughter). And the reason why it has never been diagnosed is because I've been treating it (laughter)…But there is a reason why I do use it. And that is because I like to get high. (cheers, applause). Marijuana is fun."
The video proves that "medical marijuana" is a joke to those on the inside of the pro-pot movement who realize that getting the public and the media to accept the notion that smoking marijuana alleviates health problems is a major step down the road to complete legalization of dope.

Prohibiting the production of WMD has the same purpose as prohibiting the production and sale of social WMD. Read the Constitution it's for the general welfare. You can't do ANYTHING that you want.
Cancer wards have better drugs than pot and many need morphine.
That's because it's one of the conditions under which the license is granted. Driving is a privilege, not a right. By accepting the license you accept the terms of driving, one of which is you cannot legally drive while intoxicated.
The WOD(enforcement of drug law) is the only defense for America against drug addicts and their distributers.
I don't happen to agree with about 25% of the articles and columns that I post on FR. I put some pieces up just to generate discussions on issues which I feel are important to debate.
In my own case, I could be the most neutral observer, because I have only taken two puffs, one time 30 years ago, from a marijuana cigarette, and quickly handed it over to someone else. I thought that it was bilious.
I have never known anyone who smokes marijuana, let alone who uses it for medicinal pain relief.
I have, however, experienced excruciating pain a few times in my life, and if that "weed" were available, and if it relieved the pain that I was feeling, I would be the very first person to demand that it be legal.
My personal belief is that this should NOT be the "big deal" issue that it is, and that legalizing this plant does NOT produce catastrophic consequences.
So-o-ooooooo, FR readers should probably not leap to the automatic conclusion that the FR member posting a specific piece is in agreement with its premise or argument. Many times things are posted for the purpose of generating lively discussion.........which this seems to have done.
In a "free Republic" we can freely speak out for or against issues and not "blame" someone for having brought up a subject for others to consider and offer their opinions on.

Labeling something "social WMD" isn't a very good basis for discussion. It will take Hillary Clinton and her pals about two seconds to label Christianity, or firearms ownership, "social WMD". Could they then count on your support?

You have no right to put all the extra responsiblity on society for your problems with illegal and dangerous drugs.
No. I don't see driving as a privilege, since a vehicle is YOUR property. The reason that drunk driving isn't allowed is because your inebreation is likely to harm others. To a lesser degree, your innebreation from being high is also likely to harm others. That's why the great majority of Americans stand against drug legalization. It really is about protecting the general welfare rather than I want to control what you do, as you see it. I understand your position, but in the end there is more to it than that.
