Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri has vetoed a "medical marijuana" bill, saying it would encourage marijuana use and criminal activity. His veto comes as an anti-drug group has released dramatic video footage of a marijuana activist declaring that he uses dope for a health problem that he doesn't really have. The bottom line for this activist, Ed Rosenthal, is that "I like to get high. Marijuana is fun." The video has the potential of dealing a major blow to the "medical marijuana" movement, largely funded by billionaire George Soros.
The video footage, posted at the website http://www.sorosmonitor.com, gives the lie to the claim that we often see in the media that smoking marijuana is a legitimate medical treatment for people with diseases. Rosenthal, who was associated with High Times magazine for many years, is shown speaking to dozens of marijuana activists. "With all the talk about medical marijuana, I have to tell you that I also use marijuana medically (laughter)," he says. "I have a latent glaucoma, which has never been diagnosed (more laughter). And the reason why it has never been diagnosed is because I've been treating it (laughter) But there is a reason why I do use it. And that is because I like to get high. (cheers, applause). Marijuana is fun."
The video proves that "medical marijuana" is a joke to those on the inside of the pro-pot movement who realize that getting the public and the media to accept the notion that smoking marijuana alleviates health problems is a major step down the road to complete legalization of dope.

I know nothing about your son's situation, but I was discussing my father's situation. He was DX with pancreatic cancer when he was 68 years old. That's plenty old enough to decide what to put into your own body. (He never did express any interest in MJ even though he went through hell with surgery and chemo) And although I've never used illegal drugs I would have gotten whatever he may have asked me to, somehow.
If it is to govern, any government must command obedience. So, that must not be the issue. Is it that you believe government may not ever tell you what you may, or may not, ingest?
Does that apply to all issues of public health and welfare?
YHAOS,
You might want to get your eyes checked.
The unhealthy dependency of the good-citizen types (like you?) or the largely healthy and responsible (regardless of criminality) recreational users wouldn't offset the total decadence and irresponsibility that the legalization of narcotics and other mind altering drugs would unleash.
By the way, most of the "good-citizen" types, despite everything else, in their involvement in the drug trade are supporting criminals and crime. As regards the tiny minority that can independently produce their own drugs, when they are not going into rehab, or seperating themselves from reality, they can conceal their activities, yes. Most of them probably feel guilty for getting away with what they do, they can afford it. They are the limo-libs, and to feel justified they then go ahead and try to rationalize what they do by trying to legalize drugs etc. Its like with Michael Jackson and NAMBLA.
Its up to responsible citizens to stand against the degenerates and their sometimes well-intentioned agendas.
You seem to share LBJ's view of the general Welfare Clause. From his War On Poverty speech, March 16, 1964:
"The Congress is charged by the Constitution to 'provide . . . for the general welfare of the United States.' Our present abundance is a measure of its success in fulfilling that duty. Now Congress is being asked to extend that welfare to all our people."
"Today we are asked to declare war on a domestic enemy which threatens the strength of our nation and the welfare of our people"
I think Laz just gave that frog in the pic a lick hoping that some LSD sweat was on its back.
Keeping America safe from the munchies. It's hilarious that
"conservatism" means only BIG GUBMINT approved medications will do. We're all children, I guess.
LBJ's programs were based on economic ignorance. So his attempts to execute the general welfare interests of this nation were doomed from the getgo.
The campaig to legalize drugs is based on the ignorance (and carelesness) of the consequences that that would have on this country.
Not so much the munchies as the moonbats. Forget about the mental health of our country just in terms of how it affects everyone, there's also the problem that a disabled and easier to fool populace poses with regards to true big government threats.
I'm not necessarily against medical marijuana in and of itself, I am against the campaign to legalize drugs, which the campaign for medical marijuana is largely and notably about. This is obvious because marijuana is not the only medication that can be taken.
Republican presidential front-runner George W. Bush says he believes individual states should choose whether to ban the use of marijuana for medical purposes, but is stopping short of saying the District should enjoy that privilege. The Texas governor, who in recent weeks has distanced himself from several positions taken by conservative Republicans in Congress, said that when it came to congressional efforts to ban a medical marijuana law here, he was in Congress's corner. Campaigning in Seattle on Saturday, Bush answered questions about medical marijuana laws by saying, "I believe each state can choose that decision as they so choose."
So is the WOD, but that was not the point. The point is that you are embracing LBJ-style constitutionalism. You have no constitutional argument against the War on Poverty.
The campaign to legalize drugs is based on the ignorance (and carelesness) of the consequences that that would have on this country.
Drug addiction is higher now than it was before prohobition efforts began in the early 1900's. Addiction actually declined from 1880 to 1900, before any federal control.
This is a true big gubmint threat. You're probably too easily fooled to realize it.
Conservatism means only BIG GUBMINT approved medications will do. Excuse me while I light up.
Call it propaganda if you want it to, but I see a correlation between pot-smoking and Che Guevara/Castro/Stalin lovers. It's more than just SOME commie in Berkley in the pic that I posted. It's illustrative, not idiotic. And racists don't really believe in states rights, they latched on to that political argument to promote their racial bigotry. How could they have any right to own other people based on states rights? My A$5. Pathetic.
What did President Bush do to violate states rights on medical marijuana here? How does your quote of president Bush "I believe each state can choose that decision as they so choose" violate states rights??? STFU Hucky
It's obvious, you're baked, man.
My first question to you is whether drug addiction is higher today because the population is also.
You say that the WOD is doomed just as the WOP was. You are wrong. Poverty still exists, and it will exist for more generations regardless of the now defunct LBJ approach. LBJ's policies increased poverty by encouraging people to have babies, seperate from their fathers, and live off of someone else's money, while many of them went on drugs.
Murder and theft is outlawed but it doesn't mean that it is hopeless to keep the law against it on the books just because someone will commit that crime again in the future. the WOD is the same - even though it is not a panacea. Its hard for small timers to understand how potent these legal restrictions really are.
I agree.
I always thought it did hold medicinal qualities, but now I'm not so sure.
He's absolutely desperate to drug up and numb our citizens, and he must have a reason why.
