march 24, 2005 | hippibillie

Posted on 03/24/2005 9:53:38 PM PST by hippibillie

Hello, i got here thru a link and started to read, i like the "intellegent" debate. if i have to label myself, then i am a liberal. Who happens to share common views with consrvatives and other people. the only difference between a liberal and conservative in my opinion is that while both may have the same views, a liberal is not going to use legislation to force his/her views onto others. I like to spout my opinion, and encourage others to do the same, thats what america is about! thats how things get done for the good of the people. if you dont agree with me, thats good, get your 2 cents in. we can all gain a more equal perspective. Thank "god" for america and the constitution!

You must be like 12 if you think liberals and conservatives are similar! Liberals are for death of innocents and conservatives wat life for the innocents and punishment for the guilty. Geesh. There is NOTHING that conservatives have in common with liberals////NOTHING.

I was denied a job as a professor of maths, once, because I am white, and male.

The school was required by law to fill the position with a minority female.

That was liberals forcing their values on me, under colour of law.

I am curious - what do you think liberals do?

The quotation marks around God pretty much show where your head is at.

You'd be happier at democraticunderground.com. They're your peeps.

OK. Good. Then repeal every one of your gun grabs, speech codes, "campaign finance reform" laws, and excessive taxation.

That's a start.

SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL

Please allow me to introduce myself

I'm a man of wealth and taste

I've been around for many a long, long year

I've stolen many men's soul and faith

I was around when Jesus Christ had his moment of doubt and pain

I made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed his fate...

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guess my name

But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game

I stuck around St Petersburg

When I saw it was time for a change

I killed the Tzar and his ministers

Anastasia screamed in vain

I rode a tank, held a general's rank

When the blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guess my name

But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game

I washed with glee while your kings and queens fought for ten decades

For the God they made

I shooted out "who killed the kennedy's?"

When after all it was you and me

So let me introduce myself

I am a man of wealth and taste

And I lay traps for troubadours

Who get killed before they reach Bombay

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guess my name

But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guess my name

But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game

Just as every cop is criminal and all the sinners, Saints

As heads is tails, just call me Lucifer

'Cause I'm in need of some restraint

So if you meet me, have some courtesy

Have some sympathy and some taste

Use aal your well-learned politesse

Or I'll lay your soul to waste

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guess my name

But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game...

Hi hippiebillie.

To make a flip reply, I would contend that you transposed your political terms when you said:

the only difference between a liberal and conservative in my opinion is that while both may have the same views, a liberal is not going to use legislation to force his/her views onto others.
Why do I contend that you may ask? Well from history, I would reply.

If you look at all of modern society from the French Revolution on, liberals or as I would have it, militant leftists, have in country after country, age after age, done nothing more than force their views onto others through centralized legislation or decree.

Leftist law is (1) centralized; (2) always expressed as the "will of the people", the only answer, or Majority Rule; and (3) always rationalistic and formed fresh from metaphysical opinion, leaving society disrupted and unsettled.

On the other hand, conservative societies have always had law originate as close to local units as possible. It has always based its law on respect for settled Order, relying on custom, convention and accepted prescriptive rights to form law in a preserving manner. Preserving what is good and reforming carefully what hasn't continued to assist Order.

Why do I use the term Order?

Because first and foremost, conservatives believe in an Enduring Moral Order. Such for Man and such for the State.

Belief in that Enduring Moral Order helps avoid the flawed nature of man, his imperfectability, and that nature showing itself in his passions, rationality, metaphysical constructs and schemes for earthly salvation through those traits expressed in government.

A conservative then, avoids his own opinion when constructing, preserving and reforming the State as he attends to the duty of preservation. He uses instead of his opinion, the settled and respected culture and the Moral Order mirrored by the best of his patrimony to form his laws and execute public government.

Legislators of the leftist mind or the conservative mind therefore utilize just the opposite of what you claim.

Likewise, executives and judges of the conservative sensibility, execute their oaths and set aside their opinions and personal morality, unlike the leftists in such positions that always claim a crisis makes them reach for "justice", "equality", "human rights" and other things they redefine from moment to moment.

We could go to Lincoln for an example, but lets just look to Florida. The young child Elian is seized at gun point by the leftist Attorney General and in this Easter's tragic events the sworn conservative Governor must serve his oath and leave aside his personal anguish for justice and moral right.

I relish our individual helplessness in the face of evil. It guarantees a thoughtful people will work for reform and wrestle power from a judicial arm run amok.

No, liberals prefer the Judicial Branch to "legislate" their views on the American public.

You profess yourself to be a liberal, why are you here? This is a conservative forum, go back to DU where you belong.

[we can all gain a more equal perspective]

No thanks, I like my perspective just fine. I don't seek any such "equality". By the way, do the quotation marks in your post indicate enjoyment of a hypothetical intelligent debate? And an acknowledgement of a hypothetical God? That's what I thought.
