WASHINGTON Pot. Cannabis. Hemp. Weed. Grass.
The herb takes many names. But in the nations capital, where the marijuana lobby (search) was once the recreational diversion of Playboy Magazine's Hugh Hefner, pro-pot special interest groups have crystallized the divergent issues behind the plant and gained a seemingly unified voice.
________________ Puff, Cough, Puff, Cough________________
"Its a no-brainer. It makes no sense putting old and sick folks in jail for an herb that makes them feel better," said Bruce Mirken, spokesman for the Marijuana Policy Project (search), which was established in 1995 by Rob Kampia, a former mainstay at the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, the first pro-pot lobby in Washington, D.C.

"We have some wonderful parting gifts"
Would those happen to be gifts from God?
GOD MADE HERB
GOD SAW THAT IT WAS GOOD
GOD GAVE IT TO MAN
Genesis 1:11
Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its
kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth"; and it was so.
Genesis 1:12
And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is
in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:29
And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose
fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.
Not all drugs support terror - and actually the only ones that were proven too are opiates and cocaine. Opiates (heroin, opium, etc) have supported terrorist groups in Mideast (i.e Taliban). Coke primarily funds the drug cartel terrorists - while not really a terror threat to us it does destroy many lives (esp. when made into Crack and such).
However that does make me question your intelligence: 1) You buy and a use a 'product' that you don't even know where it came from (think 'orifice for smuggling') 2) you've been using a 'product' that until now (when I corrected you) you thought WAS supporting terrorism !?!?
Perhaps you can explain your justification for engaging in an act that you believed directly supported terrorism?
And I'm not saying I support legalization either way it just bothers me when people think "Drug use = Terrorism supporter". However I do support some concepts of Darwinism. For that fact alone I think heroin & crack should be given away FREE!! - Help clean up the gene pool for those of us who know what not to do/smoke/shoot :)
Sorry for the lengthy rant - they are few and far between - but some posts set me off (esp. if I have time to kill)
(Hmmm. Do they teach Philosophy in 4th grade?)
And you're exceedingly pleasant and rational to converse with on line. Have a delightful afternoon.
I always have delightful afternoons. My wonderful husband gets home around 1:30 p.m.
You are correct. My bad.
That's one reason you can't ever win anything. You not only have used dope, you are one. I have never used an illegal drug, unlike you.
We won.
You must have a frog in your pocket. And you are delusional.
You'll note that everyone on my side, Kevin Curry, Roscoe, cinFLA, Dane, Cultural Jihad, and all the other Drug Warriors have gone.
All of them except CJ were kicked off this site, but nice try. He has reined himself in for the most part.
Most of the others were mentally ill. You haven't sought treatment yet for your obsession. But you need to.
They asked me to just clean up, shut off the lights, that kinda thing.
You often hear these little voices?
But hey, thanks for playing. We have some wonderful parting gifts for you backstage. Don't let the door hit ya.
I was here before you and I will be here after you are gone.
It's pretty obvious that drug users don't give one bit of concern towards what their habit supports, how nasty and stupid it is, and other things as well.. The 'orifice' comment is right on. People actually take stuff that's been inside of people and shove it up their nose and so on to feel better.
There's no greater idiocy.
What problem do you have with adults taking a puff of a product that was LEGAL in most of this country until the 1930s?
None. Be an adult and shoot heroin to your heart's content.
No, you just sound like a person that has all the answers.
Why is it illegal?
Marijuana, with no medical use, was classified as a Schedule I drug.
A better question is why should society legalize marijuana? What have we to gain by the legalization of yet another drug?
After reading all these posts I have this strange craving for cold milk and oreo cookies.
Whether it is a better question or not, and I really don't care if it's legal or not. Why was it classified as a Sched 1 drug? Is medical use a criteria for classification? Are other plants classified the same?
(1) Schedule I. -
(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
(B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
(C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.
Please explain why Alcohol and Nicotine are not schedule I drugs
Pot has a low potential for abuse. The US government supplies it to 7 people for medical purposes. Why is it a Schedule I drug?
The real point is that no one on these threads knows exactly what is happening because of what they say here because, as already pointed out, neither group of these debaters can change the other's mind.
The real win or loss is in the minds of those who do not post, but lurk, and have not totally dug their heels in, and read these threads, and as a result sway one way or the other based on some of the things they read here. And we don't know what they are thinking.
When some of these obsessive types make the same crazy points over and over and call people loserdopians and such, they lose credibility. And when others on the other side do the same, they lose as well.
The real point has nothing whatsoever to do with pot, or even drugs. It has to do with whether we should be a free country or not. Whether people are free to make their own decisions and their own mistakes, or whether we have mob rule or rule by elitists.
"The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing."
A reduction in the high profits placed in criminal hands, and an increase in liberty.
See post #116. Those drugs with no recognized medical use in the U.S. are placed in Schedule I. There are a number of drugs in this Schedule -- I don't recall if there are any other plants.
Perhaps if you would get to the point, if you have one, maybe I could answer your question.
Well then I guess half the WOSD money IS spent on drug education and so forth. My bad. But I still think that unless a drug user is also threatening or harming others, unless he is actually committing crimes related to his drug use, putting them in jail is not the solution. Then they lose whatever job they may have had, and they become enemies of the system instead of members. They get exposed to radical Islamists and gangsters. It's not worth all that over a little pot. Jail does not produce productive citizens.
