Marijuana, with no medical use, was classified as a Schedule I drug.
A better question is why should society legalize marijuana? What have we to gain by the legalization of yet another drug?
After reading all these posts I have this strange craving for cold milk and oreo cookies.
Whether it is a better question or not, and I really don't care if it's legal or not. Why was it classified as a Sched 1 drug? Is medical use a criteria for classification? Are other plants classified the same?

(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
(B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
(C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

Pot has a low potential for abuse. The US government supplies it to 7 people for medical purposes. Why is it a Schedule I drug?
A reduction in the high profits placed in criminal hands, and an increase in liberty.
The real question is; why is it any of your business what others do so long as they don't violate your rights?
Free people do not ask "WHY should things be legal?" They ask "Why would we want to make things illegal?"
