.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Thanks, Fawnn.
Yes, I have heard of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I do not personally know anyone with this but I have heard that it is awful. I was told the frustration of getting a diagnosis is enough to cause depression.

You know somebody now. ;)

That's an understatement. (Part of my diagnosis protocol involved ruling out MS [for the weird muscle weakness] and a complete neuro-psych exam. I kept saying that "being this tired is depressing; I'm NOT tired because I'm depressed." Those who gave me that exam agreed.)

Hi Amy. First chance to get to FR today. Hate when work interferes with my freeping. Just wanted to pop in and say hi. Need to head to the finest...but will be back and looking forward to reading some great poetry and cute jokes!

Randy Glasbergen always makes laugh. Another one of my favorites was the "Far Side" guy. Someone Larson, I think. Maybe Gary? My age is showing! LOL

Hi Dutchess .....
Having lots of Freep time is an advantage of retirement. The biggest disadvantage is no pay checks! LOL

Thanks Amy, for what you do. Funny stuff.

My cousin's wife has had severe muscles weakness for a long time. I know they tested her for everything under the sun. I'm not sure whether they ever made a diagnosis or not.

Any children I ever father will undoubtedly be nightmarish monsters.
I would forever be chasing them around and attempting to keep them from blowing things up or burning things down...
I was a baaaaaaaaad kid.

YUP.
They said that OFTEN.
I'm fairly lucky, in a way, to have not had any children of my own yet.

In my case, certain exposures -- like being around some perfumes or being inside a gas-heated home -- intensifies the pain and muscle weakness. Gets frustrating.
This will sound like I'm
fishing; however, I hope my explanation is accepted in the spirit in which it's intended: Tomorrow is my birthday. I didn't intend the CFS/
Lilacs poem to trigger any self-indulgence, but I think perhaps because I'm in one of those frustrating "another year gone and so much I didn't get gone" moods, it's led to this baring my soul, if you will....
I'm a widow; that was my second marriage. My first marriage ended in divorce. I don't write that much poetry. I have found that the few poems that I've chosen to keep that I wrote during my first marriage and during the divorce are now almost a metaphor for the realities of dealing with CFS. The poem below is one that I hope will be a part of a collection of my essays and poems I'd like to publish someday.
Growies are what we called "wild daisies."
Gathering Growies on Vespers Hillby Pamela Rice Hahn
I wonder perhaps if I ever will
gather growies again on Vespers Hill.
Paths on a hillside where
the daisies grew wild,
Sunshine seemed warmer then,
Was I but a child
to trust that life could be
what we wish for?
I gave you all of me,
You wanted more.
Changes weren't in our plans,
I wanted to stay
safe on a hillside with
a growie bouquet.
With heaven as close as
just touching the sky
and when seemed so much more
important than why.
Dreams were so easy then.
We lived for someday.
We thought our future but
a whisper away.
I wonder perhaps if I ever will
gather growies again on Vespers Hill.

I "color" on the computer sometimes, so what's seen now is my "coloring" that includes additional blues so that I'd have blue roses, etc.

Post #94 makes absolutely no sense!!! Let me try again.
When you have children you will understand what your parents meant when they said "someday it will all come back on you!!" ?
Well, something like that.

Both the flowers and the poem are lovely. Thank you for sharing them with us.
I have no (no, not an ounce) of talent for writing poems. Over time, I have seen several that appeal to me and I have been doing Google search for others. When I find something that I like, I enjoy posting it.
Happy birthday tomorrow and many, many more!!!
