.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Good Morning Ladies. (yes, I'm here *wink*)

THE BEAST

Deep in the shadows,
Alone in the cold,
The nightmare begins,
The horror unfolds,

Born out of darkness,
By the master of death,
It crawls through night,
Devours with its breath,

It feeds on ignorance,
And lives off of fear,
It slows down for none,
And stops for no tears,

It feels not for the poor,
Cares not for the old,
It loves not the children,
And fears not the bold,

It backs down for none,
And fights all who dare,
To test out its might,
And enter it's lair,

If not for those few,
Who fear not the beast,
It would conquer the world,
With all as it's feast,

They face the dragons,
That ravish the lands,
Armed not with swords,
But courage and hands,

They are the heroes,
That arrive in the night,
Upon their chariots,
Covered with light,

They rescue the prisoners,
Held in the grasp,
Of ruler of hell,
The devil in a mask,

When the dragon is dead,
And all is well agian,
They remount their chariots,
Simply as men,

They ride off in the night,
As swift as they came,
To battle another,
Beast of the flame.

Welcome.
I just wish I could write music, because to the tune, it isn't so bad!
(I also can't sing to save my life..*chuckle*)

Th eprettiest thing I have ever seen, was at night.
I went out hiking in the dead of winter alone, and got caught in an ice storm.
I found shelter and stayed fairly warm for the duration of the storm.
When it ended, the clouds broke, and the moon was full.
And the full moon shining through the ice covered trees looked so pretty.
The trees looked like blown glass sculptures, and some of the icicles acted like prisms and scattered faint shimmers and rainbows(very faint) on the ground.
I've never seen anything like that before, and probably will never seen anything like it again.

Also- I once was waling about at night, since that is when I am most comfortable, and there was a white flower blooming in teh dark that had a pleasant scent to it.
I'm not sure what it was, someone asked me if it was night blooming cereus, and I never found out.
That flower bloomed only the one summer, and I haven't seen anything like it again since.
(I hate that!)

How about this?

My sister once thought to have kids
Then suddenly she changed her mind
She came over to visit
Claimed that had cured it!
In weakness she’d just borrow mine!

awwww....much like my last trip across country.
We drove into Salt Lake City in the dead of the night.
It was beautiful.
But up in the sky the moon was the weirdest formation I had ever seen!
It wasn't round....wasn't even eliptical. It had a shape totally unfamiliar to either my husband or myself.
We watched it for as long as we could, because by the time we left Salt Lake, it was also gone. Back to a normal moon once again.
I don't know what caused that strange sight. I never saw it before and haven't seen it since. Just weird. Just over the skies of Salt Lake. I hope it wasn't something just the two of us saw. weird.

Tiggy, it is!

I'm glad I could help even tho it took two days for something so simple (between my typos and the power outage).

Hope you find some others to share.

I had forgotten how beautiful simple things like icicles are. We don't have those in California, and I hadn't seen them since I was quite young. Now having moved to an area where icicles get as long as trees, I am mesmerized again by their beauty. And the snow on tree branches. It is simply awesome.

Picking up a handful of snow flakes and blowing, sending them spiraling into the air. It's awesome. Seeing the prisms of light created by moonlight falling against the glistening snow or icy streets. It's awesome. I wish everyone could see it and share it. It reminds me that people who live in places that are not acquainted with that beauty miss a whole dimension of life you only know when you know the seasons.

Hmmmm. Maybe that is what is wrong with California! :)

THE OJ TRIAL AS TOLD BY DR. SUESS

I did not kill my lovely wife.
I did not slash her with a knife.
I did not bonk her on the head.
I did not know that she was dead.

I stayed at home that fateful night.
I took a cab, then took a flight.
The bag I had was just for me.
My bag. My bag. Hey, leave it be.

When I came home, I had a gash.
My hand was cut from broken glass.
I cut my hand on broken glass.
A broken glass did cause that gash.

I have nothing, nothing to hide.
My friend he took me for a ride.
Did you take this person's life?
Did you do it with a knife?

I did not do it with a knife.
I did not, could not kill my wife.
I did not do this awful crime.
I could not, would not anytime.

Did you hit her from above?
Did you drop this bloody glove?
I did not hit her from above.
I cannot even wear that glove.

I did not do it with a knife.
I did not, could not kill my wife.
I did not do this awful crime.
I could not, would not anytime.

And now I'm free, I can return
To my small house, for which I yearn,
And to family whom I love.
So now I'm free, give back my glove.

I'm slightly colorblind.
So I saw the moon once this way:
With one eye, it looked green.
With the other eye, it looked orange.

Watched the moon rise, and there was a warm air mass between the horizon and myself, the moon appeared to be squashed. As it rose above the viewing angle of teh airmass, it seemed to shrink and wriggle oddly.
(Not in a really noticable fashion, it just was odd.)

Anyone see the few shooting stars on Wednsday evening?
They were tiny, relatively so, and made these anemic faint red streaks in the sky.
Saw one not too long ago that looked like one of those sparkler fireworks.
It streaked bright and yellow, ending in the sparkler like spray.
Looked pretty neat.
Didn't have a camcorder on hand [8-()
