BB King was just asked about political comments during the war and he said "I think that there are going to be alot of things said tonight that I don't agree with."
Way to go B.B!

The Clash sometimes performed with a giant Nazi flag draped behind the stage, so naturally they got accused of being white supremists, which they weren't. Maybe some of you old farts can refresh my memory, heh.

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ... NORA JONES!!! At least Michelle Branch finally was able to get on stage. :)

London Calling lyrics, whose intent (in 1979 I think) I believe was to throw down the gauntlet to dessicated glam rock and disco of that time period. The Clash was the prototypical punk rock group. All things considered, I'd have rather seen them perform "Rock the Casbah" (lyrics also below)
London Calling (Strummer/Jones)
London calling to the faraway towns
Now that war is declared-and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, all you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look at us
All that phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
'Cept for the ring of that truncheon thing
CHORUS
The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Engines stop running and the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
London is drowning-and I live by the river
London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, an' go it alone
London calling upon the zombies of death
Quit holding out-and draw another breath
London calling-and I don't wanna shout
But when we were talking-I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no highs
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes
CHORUS
Now get this
London calling, yeah, I was there, too
An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
After all this, won't you give me a smile?
I never felt so much a' like
Rock The Casbah
Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin' to the top
The sheik he drove his Cadillac
He went a' cruisnin' down the ville
The muezzin was a' standing
On the radiator grille
CHORUS
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sound
Degenerate the faithful
With that crazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
The electric camel drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the shareef
Had cleared the square
They began to wail
CHORUS
Now over at the temple
Oh! They really pack 'em in
The in crowd say it's cool
To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
The temple band took five
The crowd caught a wiff
Of that crazy Casbah jive
CHORUS
The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down the Casbah way
As soon as the shareef was
Chauffeured outta there
The jet pilots tuned to
The cockpit radio blare
As soon as the shareef was
Outta their hair
The jet pilots wailed
CHORUS
He thinks it's not kosher
Fundamentally he can't take it.
You know he really hates it.

Dee Dee was a Republican.

The Clash were unapologetic Marxists who supported the so-called guerilla movement in Nicaragua.

Yo-Yo Ma was in the first hour, after Vanessa Carleton and John Mayer.
I only watch the first 40 minutes or so because all of the good stuff is usually in there, I will Tivo the Springsteen performace for later

"White Rabbit and Someone To Love. Grace stole the songs when she jumped ship to Jefferson Airplane. Many people assume that the "Slick" songwriting credit is Grace, not Darby."
It's hard to remember now, but Grace could sing and she was HOT in 1968. And Eric Clapton didn't play elevator music. Ah... Cloudy memories.

"'N' if you can find a Afghan rebel
That the Moscow bullets missed
Ask him what he thinks of voting Communist...
...Ask the Dalai Lama in the hills of Tibet,
How many monks did the Chinese get?
In a war-torn swamp stop any mercenary,
'N' check the British bullets in his armoury"
Not exactly pro-communist if you ask me....

And Eric Clapton didn't play elevator music"Disraeli Gears"....

I wonder if she'll have a guitar strap next year with "I'm Sorry" on it?the only time you will ever hear a liberal say "I'm Sorry" is when he/she gets arrested for something and the lawyer sets up a post-bust press conference. And that's only when the cops have them stone cold dead to rights.
Doubtless by next year Cheryl Crow will have found some other outrage to blame on the Republican Party.

"cloudy indeed..."
Purple haze all in my brain
lately things don't seem the same
I feel funny but I don't know why
excuse me while I kiss the sky (not kissthisguy)

"nothing says peace like diamonds" -- Sheryl Crow
Oh, is that right? And here, I thought nothing said "smuggling" and "blood money" like diamonds! You tell 'em, Sheryl! *PUKE*
