Susan Sontag has become the poster girl of anti-war protests among the intelligensia. But now a piece she wrote in 1999 about the Kosovo conflict has come to light...and it shows the blatant hypocracy of today's libs.

She deplores Europe's inaction "in the face of all this irrational slaughter and suffering," and observes: "Of course, it is easy to turn your eyes from what is happening if it is not happening to you."
In answer to the placards at antiwar demonstrations, she says: "For Peace. Against War. Who is not? But how can you stop those bent on genocide without making war?"
She argues that a dictator need not pose an immediate threat to those outside his borders to justify taking action against him: "Imagine that Nazi Germany had had no expansionist ambitions but had simply made it a policy in the late 1930's and early 1940's to slaughter all the German Jews. Do we think a government has the right to do whatever it wants on its own territory? Maybe the governments of Europe would have said that 60 years ago. But would we approve now of their decision?"
In other words, she used every single argument being used today TO SUPPORT WAR in Iraq. Of course, they saw Kosovo as a "humanitarian war", not one where we greedy Americans were just protecting our own national interests (God forbid!). This needs to be seen far and wide as a perfect example of the libs' real agenda: pulling down Bush.
We must come up with a 'statergy' for this. Perhaps we could start out with a the functional equivalent of 'pre game coverage' to be continued with a live thread. Maybe include an invitation for others to join us, etc.
Btw, thanks for the correction on Farrell. At this point the two are synonymous to me.

First, can anyone recall a single Dem who has criticized France/Germany for their obstruction of U.S. policy?? The Dems only criticize Bush for his failure to bring the "international community on board".
Well, now the Washington Post may be on to the story. In an article this afternoon Jim Vandehei reports that the Dems' new strategy is to attack the credibility of GWB. He writes,
"On an almost daily basis now, congressional Democrats are warning of a 'credibility gap' between what Bush says to the American people and what he does through new government policies."I think there might be more to this than even I realized. LINK"A top strategist for House Democrats...said party leaders are intensifying the campaign now to coincide with criticism of Bush's Iraq policy from world leaders. Interesting BBC analysis of Chirac, and whether his efforts to be forceful like DeGaulle are going to backfire:
Mr Chirac so far seems unscathed. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. And he hopes to come out of the Iraq crisis as a champion of peace, a champion of Europe and a strong French leader.
But he has broken a lot of political furniture, and the bills may come his way soon. He has earned the hostility of many leaders in eastern Europe who will soon have a much bigger voice. Some will never forget his insults. He has offended some current EU leaders, who resent his claim to speak for Europe and his worsening of the rift with the US.
He has sorely angered the US, which is liable to mistrust the French Government for many years to come. Retribution could come in the form of a US boycott of French goods, sidelining France in any post-war settlement in Iraq, or a re-casting of America's international alliances to downgrade the role of France. link
