The Guild 2-21-2003--The Anti Americans LOVED Clinton's Wars!
Best of the Web Today ^ | 2/21/03 | James Taranto

Susan Sontag has become the poster girl of anti-war protests among the intelligensia. But now a piece she wrote in 1999 about the Kosovo conflict has come to light...and it shows the blatant hypocracy of today's libs.

WHY ARE WE IN KOSOVO?" by Susan Sontag, May 2, 1999

She deplores Europe's inaction "in the face of all this irrational slaughter and suffering," and observes: "Of course, it is easy to turn your eyes from what is happening if it is not happening to you."

In answer to the placards at antiwar demonstrations, she says: "For Peace. Against War. Who is not? But how can you stop those bent on genocide without making war?"

She argues that a dictator need not pose an immediate threat to those outside his borders to justify taking action against him: "Imagine that Nazi Germany had had no expansionist ambitions but had simply made it a policy in the late 1930's and early 1940's to slaughter all the German Jews. Do we think a government has the right to do whatever it wants on its own territory? Maybe the governments of Europe would have said that 60 years ago. But would we approve now of their decision?"

In other words, she used every single argument being used today TO SUPPORT WAR in Iraq. Of course, they saw Kosovo as a "humanitarian war", not one where we greedy Americans were just protecting our own national interests (God forbid!). This needs to be seen far and wide as a perfect example of the libs' real agenda: pulling down Bush.

I have never understood folks who think that you can reason with a maniacal dictator. If Janeane can, well more power to her. Here's a ticket for a flight to Iraq, Miss Garofalo, sorry it's in coach.

Exerpted from the UK's News Telegraph:

Safe-sex policy 'spreads disease among young'
BY Lorraine Fraser, Medical Correspondent
(Filed: 23/02/2003)

The Government's policy on sex education has been blamed for a "galloping" rise in sexually transmitted diseases among young people that threatens in turn to cause increasing rates of infertility and cancer.

A leaked Parliamentary report labels the level of sexually transmitted infections among teenagers and young adults a "crisis". Critics claim that the report proves that the Government's approach to sex education is a failure.

Nuala Scarisbrick, a trustee of the charity Life, said that the Government's concentration on a "safe-sex" rather than "no-sex" message - designed to cut teenage pregnancy rates - had deprived millions of people of the information they need to protect their health.

"Now we are seeing the results: more teenage pregnancies, many ending in abortion, and more sexually transmitted disease. Some of these infections are incurable, others can lead to infertility and there is a proven link between early sex and cervical cancer. But they just don't tell young people about this."

Is anyone shocked here?

She's a goofy broad with no real answers to the world's pressing problems.
Just more of the same, "We want them for their oil" garbage.

What a shame she missed the buses carrying the human shield group, I heard it was a spectacular trip that resembled a black comedy.

Are we going live for the Grammy awards? Some other astute Free Republic poster has already started a thread.

Amazing to me when someone else starts a live thread it can stay up forever in breaking news, but if it's a Guild thread, it is soon relegated to cheese status.

Interesting and troubling to me.

Mike Farrell makes me ill. The Left and the dems whine and moan and groan about the Homeland Security Dept not telling how to get prepared, and then when some information is put forward all they can do is make fun of it.

We have revisionist history going on right here in River City (Orlando), right now. I wasn't going to bore you with a local mayoral race but over the weekend a person that used to be a movie star poked in his ugly head. First a bit of background.

Jeb Bush tapped now mayor Glenda Hood to be Sec. of State to replace Katherine Harris who won her seat for congress. So Orlando needs a mayor and about eight people were running. The run off was won by Buddy Dyer (d)(state senator) and Pete Barr (42 year business man, no political affiliation). The night of the run off the games began.

On the Orlando City Council is an openly gay woman Patty Sheehan (d). Run off night she decides to let everyone know that more than a year ago Pete Barr walked up to her and told her (this is supposed to be the first time they've ever talked) that women shouldn't be in politics AND the reason a certain part of town is so nasty is because of the N***er's. No one else (conveniently) heard this conversation. Pete Barr is outraged, he never said such a thing. The Orlando Slantnel reports it as truth.

Then last Friday (that's four days before the election) three former employee's come forward and claim they've heard Mr. Barr use the N word. Again the Slantnel reports it as truth, leaving out the part that 2 of the 3 were fired. One even accepted a loan for a home from Pete Barr.

This morning we learn that Buddy Dyer (former state senator) sent out automated phone calls over the weekend. The person who recorded these calls for Mr. Dyer? ALEC BALDWIN!!!

Part of the call he says, "I know you're probably wondering why since I live in NY I'm calling to talk to you about mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer is liked and respected all over the country." "It's important that to be a hub a city must have entertainment and that will bring other business, blah, blah..."

Apparently what Baldwin and Dyer don't understand is that we're loaded with entertainment, most of it not in the downtown area but out by Disney. Which by the way is the how most residents want it.

There was a great Rally for America in Orlando (I couldn't go :-() on Saturday, Mr. Barr was there, Mr. Dyer wasn't. Dyer was probably busy hob nobbing with hollyweird actors like Baldwin. Or he was busy trying to get his campaign finanicial reports in order, there have been some questions surrounding some of the recipients of Dyer's campaign cash (surprize!).

Is Zell Miller the only dem in the country that isn't worthless liar scum?

Just more of the same. Evil people BWB, I don't know how else to put it.

I guess they missed the Sunday school lesson, "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."

The Slantnel reports that Barr is a republican, wanted to correct that party of my story. Although, I haven't heard Barr say that he is. I must have confused him with one of the other candidates that lost in the run off.

Here's one accusation printed by the Slantnel. Keep in mind Barr runs an advertising firm.

Bryan Pavlick, an account executive at Fry Hammond Barr from 1996 to 1998, said he "frequently" heard Barr utter racial slurs. Pavlick, who lives in Atlanta, contacted the Sentinel about Barr two weeks ago. He said that on one occasion, Barr criticized the Lynx bus system as a waste of money with the sole purpose of "giving n------ a ride around town." OrlandoSlantnel

Hoookay, an advertising exec. is upset about a moving billboard being a waste of money? Right.

Concur. In breaking news this morning, "War Talk from Kid Rock." I'm normally not so snooty, but breaking news?

I was disappointed there was no Guild at the Grammys thread, in the past those type of threads have be a lot of fun.

I would say "incredible," but any more, that sort of thing is SOP with the Dems. It used to be that sexual shenanigans would end a politician's career. Obviously, the Clinton years ended that. Now all they have to do is accuse someone of something far, far worse: uttering the word. It's a word used by the very people who claim to be most offended by it, a word only they can use with impunity (even when spoken in anger). It's a word that, quite frankly doesn't hurt anyone. (Go ahead, call me cracker - did I bleed? Have a heart attack? Slip a disc?)

We've gone beyond childishness. At least children learn that "words can never hurt me," not being sticks nor stones, but Dems can't grasp that simple notion. To them, the word is worse than a physical attack, it's worse than having an adulterous and dishonest character, it's worse than supporting those who would destroy this country. To utter the word is beyond murder, beyond rape, and so - knowing that their wrongheaded position on the issues won't help them, they resort to making such an accusation. Pathetic.

Absolutely pubmom, evil people who covet power. The most dangerous kind of person.

If Barr were full of racial slurs used on a constant basis as the above story implies wouldn't you think that after 42 years in business the buzz would be all over town? That it would have come out from an employee or employees during the run off?

Hadn't thought about it until I read your post, you're right. Add to that the homophobic card and that's about all the dems have anymore. But it works so well in the minority communities and how in the world do you prove you've never used it?

What does a candidate do when the only paper in town is a co-conspirator? Here in Mike Thomas' column we learn that he admires Barr, he tried to explain away Sheehan's accusations, he figured Dyer for a political opportunist...... but here's the last sentence in the story: I have criticized Dyer more than any candidate in the race. But the city is at too critical a juncture to risk Pete Barr as mayor.

There may be some juicy news on Dyer's campaign finances (aka walking around money) very soon.

Kid Rock won't be joining the music industry's anti-war movement. "Why is everybody trying to stop the war? George Bush ain't been saying, 'You all, make s-y records.' Politicians and music don't mix. It's like whisky and wine. [Musicians] ought to stay out of it."

But it doesn't take much nudging to hear the Kid's policy analysis. "We got to kill that mother-[bleeper] Saddam," he says. "Slit his throat. Kill him and the guy in North Korea."

Are some women and children going to die? "Yeah. But is doing the right thing. You got money, you sit around talking about peace. People who don't have money need some help." NY Daily News

Hmmmmm, after reading this story I feel hopeful that soon even the race card won't work anymore. Dyer bused in black voters on Sunday after church.

Television cameras readied for the stream of black voters expected to climb off the 47-seat bus to cast early ballots for Orlando mayoral candidate Buddy Dyer, whose campaign sponsored the Take Your Soul to the Poll effort.

But only four people stepped out. [snip]

The dismal turnout for the Soul to the Poll effort dumbfounded many black leaders and neighborhood activists, given allegations of racism against Barr.

"Any African-American who would align themselves with someone who offended their race is pathetic," said Mary Jackson, 50, a leader in the Colony Cove neighborhood off Mercy Drive. "AfricanAmericans are going to get Buddy Dyer in that seat."

But Don Spacht, 55, one of Barr's supporters at the elections office, says low turnout Sunday shows voters aren't responding to the accusations.

I'm optimistic!

But the evening's biggest star, other than Bono, was Bill Clinton. The former president was greeted with a thunderous ovation as he took the stage to acknowledge the U2 frontman's achievements as an activist for causes such as the Northern Ireland peace process and international debt relief. Bono "did something I couldn't do," Clinton said, by persuading Republican Sen. Jesse Helms to support debt relief.

Although Bono's efforts have won over many conservative voices, none was audible at this event. The standoff with Iraq was a consistent undercurrent as guests alluded to world suffering and at points expressed dissatisfaction with the nation's leadership.

U2 guitarist The Edge, who joined Bono on a few songs, referred to "President Bush and his regime ... I mean, administration," while mistress of ceremonies Ashley Judd told a joke at Bush's expense. Others suggested, either directly or implicitly, that they would be happier if Clinton were still in the Oval Office.

Bono didn't overtly bash Bush. "We do not want to make a martyr out of Saddam Hussein," he said. But he added: "It's not the '60s. We have complex problems. We need new solutions." Full story

I guess Bono is still miffed he had to travel all over Africa with a boring accountant and prove how the money we so freely give would be used.

We need new solutions? You mean like different than the idiot solutions we were treated to for eight years?

I'm confused...has the election already happened?
If not, why are these reports talking about people "going to the polls"?

NewMax verifies no protests from Sarandon, etc...

Asked by "Fox News Sunday's" Tony Snow why peace protesters like herself didn't object to Clinton's wars, Garofalo explained:

"I absolutely did. I did not support Operation Desert Fox. It's just that you didn't know me very well back then. Nobody really was interested in listening to me back then."

Then she added, by way of explaining why the anti-Clinton protests never gelled, "It wasn't very hip." [I missed that part]

Garofalo went on to claim that Hollywood actors Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins led protests against Clinton's 1998 Iraq attack, saying that "there was a lot of protest, just as there was against the first Gulf War."

A Lexis-Nexis search for Dec. 1998, the month Clinton bombed the daylights out of Baghdad, failed to turn up a single report that mentioned either Sarandon or Robbins protesting the attacks.

A similar search for the month of Feb. 2003 turned up 124 reports on Sarandon protesting President Bush's Iraq policy. Link

I can't beleive this is coming from me.... but in the whiners defense, it's pretty hard to protest something that only lasts for two days and there was no prior notice, not even permission from (gasp) the UN. However, why lie about it? Silly me, I forgot they're dims.

No, the election is this Tuesday. We have a new deal here in Florida (because us evil republicans put up road blocks and such to keep black people from voting) so that you can vote early. You can go to the election supervisors office and vote. Sweet huh? That way they have more time to mess with the ballots.

I think a voter can vote early one week before the actual election. I don't know the details because I vote on election day so as not to allow any chance for my ballot to be tampered with or lost. About a month ago I read a story about a hundred or more ballots that turned up after the 2002 elections. Guess which precinct it was? That's right, Palm Beach the one with the ever honest trustworthy Oliphant.

Bono is a fatuous windbag whose band hasn't done anything decent since the early 1980s. As for all his charitable work, I'd love to know how much actually comes from his pocket, and how much is just Jesse Jackson-style corporate shakedowns.

(Related thread on the Clinton-Hewson lovefest).
