HONEST ABE DAY

http://www.netins.net/showcase/creative/lincoln.html His life was what America was all about. An average boy, born on this day in 1809 on a farm in a log cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky, was able to become the 16th President of the United States.

He studied hard, by the light of a fireplace, to become first, a lawyer, then a statesman. Abraham Lincoln, one of the most revered U.S. Presidents, served his country during one of the most turbulent times in its history. The term of his presidency (1861-1865) encompassed the Civil War between the States. His Emancipation Proclamation made on January 1, 1863 to free slaves; and his Gettysburg Address given on November 19, 1863 at the site of one of the most famous battlegrounds of the Civil War are still held high as classic statements of democratic beliefs and goals.

President Lincoln was also responsible for one of the most popular holidays in the U.S.: Thanksgiving Day. He proclaimed that the last Thursday of November shall be observed as such. And so it was, and still is.

Abraham Lincoln lived during tragic times and died a tragic death. While watching a performance of Our American Cousin at Washington’s Ford Theatre, he was shot by John Wilkes Booth and died a few hours later. Lincoln was the first U.S. President to be assassinated.

‘Honest Abe’ earned his nickname when he was practicing law in Illinois. It was his unfailing honesty that made him known throughout the state. When convinced that his client was right, he could argue the case strongly. If not convinced, he was hardly powerful in his client’s defense. Lincoln would persuade clients to settle out of court even though that meant he would receive a lesser fee. And, when this was not possible, he could argue a case equally as well before a judge or before an uneducated jury. To Abe Lincoln, being a lawyer or President meant seeking the truth for client or for country.

Hello, Pippin... I hope you will review and pass along to others the "link to many more links" I posted in #11.

We had a hard freeze here a few weeks ago ( 48 degrees in the house- brr! ) so we have tons of duct tape and plastic wrap left over from that. And a few Israeli gas masks from other scares...

Happy Birthday Bit!

Hey... buddy... we're the same age. That means we went to different schools together!

Cold here today, with wind chills of - 30.

Lorene Green... a pseudo singer? I kinda liked Ringo... ALthough at the time I thought he was singing about Ringo Starr, and couldn't understand why he had broken away from the band to become a desperado!

Nice job, Nita.

Good morning all!

Happy B' Day to you, here is praying that many more will be coming your way.

GOOD A.M. TO ONE AND ALL OUT IS THE WONDERFUL LAND OF FREEPERS FROM THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST, USA!!!!

High 60's and into the 70's tomorrow, someone has got to endure that this kind of weather so, I am and will.

No go on the sale of the house, the folks made four offers to others and decided not to move down here----from NYC? NOT nove to Gods country? The real estate lady said they were a 'odd' couple so, another day goes by. Here is praying that it sells. Lots of upgrading went into this house, I mean LOTS. I would not have had a problem accepting the 'odd' couples money, not one bit.

France, Germany, what can you say? One thing, they talk funny. I say pull our troops out, now. Looks like we will have a place to put them soon in Iraq when we take it from the sure nuff 'odd' folks.

gs (who is also named Toby) got me a pasta pot so think I am going to fix pasta tonight for the kids. I am wanting to try it out as it looks like it will work real good. Don't YOU wish you had come up with the idea of putting holes in a lid on a pot? I sure do.

Prayers for all in need of same, for OUR President W and his staff, for out troops both here and abroad. I pray that all will be kept safe from harm and death. Prayers for the elderly, we graying bunch, er I mean gray bunch, we older folks who depend on you younger bunch in aiming our nation in the path of right. Have a good day (if you want too, if not, have the kind of day you want to have).

Morning Nita.

Nice job on the opening.

I have off today, as I am heading to the Marshfield Clinic for my annual physical. (Can hardly wait... "cough".)

The Doc is a good guy though, so its worth the trip.

Abe's Birthday. Will certainly have to put a fire in the fireplace tonight, in his honor!

Ya' know, I've been thinking long and hard about this. I feel real bad that we've been teasing poor Bit so much. We say this day is his birthday and that day is his birthday. I don't think I can go along with this gag any longer. Soooo, I have decided that TODAY I will NOT wish Bit a happy birthday.

I sure hope El Dumb fell into the commode after it had been flushed.

Regarding Germany and France, why are they even in NATO?

They defend Iraq, but won't defend those in the NATO Alliance? (Breaking their charter committment?)

I say take their wine, beer, sausages, and their bread. Leave them to themselves. Eventually they'll be over-run again! (Wouldn't take much.)
