We will not live in fear! [President Bush]
Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
In a departure from the normal characteristics of the shootings in the Washington area, a woman was gunned down by a single bullet at a Home Depot store located at Seven Corners in Falls Church, VA. If this is the sniper, it would be the first attack inside the Beltway.
Police found a white van in Baltimore with a high-power rifle, .223 ammunition, a sniper manual, and a sign on the front dashboard "Jihad in America."
In Florida, polling data shows Gov. Bush with the support of 48%, and McBride at 45%, with three weeks left till the election.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
Yes, true. Now, someplace like the Home Depot at Seven Corners, all he would have had to know was to do the following:
1. Exit from the south of the complex.
2. Turn right on VA 7.
3. Proceed to the third traffic light (about 500 feet).
4. Turn right.
5. Go to the first light, turn left.
At this point you are on that road just to the east of Little Saigon. That road will take you out of the area and join up with a bunch of secondary roads which, after about 30 minutes of travel, link up with some other roads that will then give you a choice of going south deep into Virginia, or north into Maryland.
His other choice would been to have taken that secondary road that goes south (look at my diagram) just before the VA 7/US 50 intersection. That would also lead to other roads that would lead deep into Virginia (but these roads are wider and more likely to be patrolled).
Either way - two things present themselves:
1. He was gone quickly; and
2. He knew his way around the area very, very well.

There's another possibility, as well. The guy has help - that is a network of people aiding him in his task (i.e., international terrorist organizations). There would be a safe house set up in the neighborhood near his shooting. He reconoiters the target location, drives once or twice between the site and where he'll stash the car, does the deed, goes to the safe house which is nearby the target site, and simply sits. He stays there until all of the commotion dies down - gives it four, five, six hours, and then he goes on his way. </tinfoil hat>
Pass the tin foil..
Possibly not, at least not moving very much. The vehicle the lady was loading was along the loading zone in front of the store. She might have been twisting to the cart and then turning to the car to drop the load in. If your bead line is slightly off-center from that, movement is minimized. It is also not a significant factor at a 30-45 degree range - a lot of time (relatively speaking) is spent getting the load from the cart. Actually, it may have been one of his easier targets, I hate to say, as the movements of the lady were far more predictable.
However, last night someone raised an interesting point that gave me pause. He/she said that there is a mosque near every one of these shooting sites. Without checking on the map, I can't verify that ...... but I assume he didn't pull the notion completely out of thin air.
Hypothetical scenario ~~~ Perp gets away down side streets, driving normally because there's no reason to act as if he's escaping anything, drives to nearest mosque, parks in parking lot (or garage of sympathetic member of mosque who lives nearby).

People in this area love to have garages on their homes.
If this is organized, then it's going to be extremely difficult to get this guy - even if you have the full license plate data.
Just found out that a NC man was injured in Bali .... burns over 60% of his body! He is expected to recover but I can assure you he has a long, difficult road ahead of him.
Time for our meeting now ...... back later this afternoon.
Wrapping more tin foil on my hat ....:-)
Well, let's add Steve Dunleavy to the mix:
Also, take a look at what William Safire wrote in the Times as quoted in this piece:
Safire: Beltway Sniper Could Be Al-Qaeda
The last paragraph ought to send chills down your spine.
Anyone of the scenerios could be right or wrong, but I'm leaning heavily on terrorist..more than one...johnny jihad or Arab.
I love that theme which runs through 1 Corinthians especially, but is developed elsewhere in the NT. I think it does capture what is wrong with politics, but also what is wrong with higher education in our country. Democrats seem to ignore the way of humility and therefore lack wisdom, but some Republicans do the same, sad to say.
The world is being terrorized, the President is being denied the right to have his judges confirmed, the voter fraud is becoming more and more blatant, and the media keys in on Martha. AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH
You've been asking me for stories from my time in Singapore. I haven't been too inspired to share much, but last night I was just remembering something that might be worth sharing. When you're back, I'll try to remember to tell you about it.
In a terrible way, we have to recognize, as a colleague of mine said, 10 gunman doing the same thing could close down the country.
*shudder*
Ok, then. A change of subject.
Just when you thought there couldn't be, there is a brand new use for duct tape:
I want to see Ms. Stewart....doing a perp walk....:-)
I would hope that IF that ever happened we would bring out the heavy artillery
IMHO..lots of precious time was wasted tossing around the idea that it could be just one person.
Since 9-11..my suggestion would be treat every suspicious shooting as terrorist related until proven otherwise. That may be considered too drastic, but we are living in difficult times which call for drastic measures.
