I backed out all the letters till I had whatever.com/ and it's some sort of Islamic site with OBL and letters that are NOT english.

I'm surely going to miss our PaloVerde during this fundraiser - I miss her with or without the fundraiser. ;-(

Good afternoon, or I guess I should say good evening....for its almost evening here as well...sure am a lazy gal today, just puttering around playing with my dolls, and trying to get out my Halloween, and Thanksgiving decorations and dollies out of storage, and contemplate setting them up for their respective holiday times, coming soon...

Tho we will not be here for Halloween...we plan to head out the end of Oct. for a visit to Ukiah California, to visit Aunt Helen, and the rest of my relatives who live down that way...with side trips through the redwoods, along the Pacific Ocean, and of course a visit to San Francisco...
And we plan to do major wine tasting in all the wineries, and take some tours of the local breweries...

But I will still decorate the house for fall time, and put up a few Halloween decorations, early, so that we can enjoy them before we leave for California...

We were down in Ukiah three years ago, just before Halloween...the people there sure do go all out in decorating the outside of their homes for Halloween and the kids...Ukiah is really one of the nicest and prettiest and friendliest little towns in northern California...

I guess the only really bad thing about Ukiah, is that the famous, or should I say the infamous Jim Jones had an office there....

My mom and dad, and previously Aunt Helen, lived in Redwood Valley, which is just 7 miles north of Ukiah....and it is in Redwood Valley, where Jim Jones set up his infamous church....Aunt Helen lived just up the hill from his cbuch, in 1977, and I remember well, when we visiting California that year, she kept complaining about this church, and warning us that something was really, really wrong, and to keep our eyes out, that something bad someday would happen with this church...

I remember thinking at the time, that she was probably just over worried about things that were going on around there...Redwood Valley is a really small town of only 2000 people at most, so when things happened around there, everyone knew...

But in 1977, Aunt Helen lived all the way up one of the hills off the main road, and Jones church was smack dab on the main road...by 1978, Jones had moved on to Guyana, tho the church was still his property...but in 1978, is when the 900+ church members drank the kool aid, or were shot to death...When we first heard of it, I did not at all connect it in my mind, till my mom called and said remember Aunt Helens warning about that minister? Well, she was right, that Jim Jones with the mess in Guyana, is the same Jim Jones that lived just down the hill from her...

And it was so odd, because we had just been stationed at Ft. Bragg N.C., and it was Graves Registration units from Ft. Bragg N.C., that went down to Guyana to identify the bodies....

Today, the former Jim Jones church is now a Community Center, for the youngsters at daycare, and for the elderly, who need daytime watching and care...so at least the building itself, is now serving the community...

And when I was going down to Redwood Valley to take care of my mom and dad, one of the guys who was one of the higher up people in Jones organization, but was not there, when the Kool aid went around, thus ensuring his survival, was running for public political office...thankfully the folks in Ukiah still remembered him, and did not elect him, thinking him a nitwit, and a jerk for having followed JIm JOnes and his awful church...

I just got thru watching a scary CD, with Dyan and Al. Whew!! I jumped a lot.. lol "The Others" with Nicole Kidman.. A real scary ghost story... Shiver me shingles..

I don't watch scary movies so much anymore...my nerves are shot as it is..lol...

It seems all I have to do is read the news to scare myself these days...mosquitoes tested positive for malaria not too far from here. Two teenagers contracted the disease last month. First West Nile, now this. Makes me wonder what's next.

Thanks for sharing those with us - looks like a super wind-up to a great summer. How's the tomato war going for you?

I discovered last evening that it does not take all that long to grill cherry tomatoes - not a disaster, but not perfect either. Thanks again to you and Habs for getting me right with the oil additives for bread dunking - that's the way to go for me.

Tomatoes are tricky to grill for sure. When we make Shishkabob we put the veggies all on seperate prongs to keep them cooked close to being the same.. The Toms always get done too quick.. Not as pretty, but better for the veggies and meat.. ;)

I just got a recipe for green tomato pie today on another thread. Will have to try it.. Says you can't tell it's not Apple..

I know just the thing to help your grandson become a fine outstanding example to today's society like myself. Expose the poor lad to Monty Python and other oddish things. Then ya won't have to worry about him playing at being Lawrence of Arabia. *Twinkle, grin. Just pickin'*

Actually, if He starts actin' like little ol' D-sheare, get him some help, fast. Wait too long on it, and the poor lad will be beyond all psychiatric aid. Just think.. he could end up writing short stories like this one:

Perhaps I should back up a bit in my story. I'll just take a small, pained sip of my drink and recall the promise of a few years time passing us by:

I remember it well. I had been at an exposium on DNA and pro-viruses in the human genome listening to a Dr. Geraud speak on what these pro-viruses do. The doctor had quoted an expert in the field on a link between a certain pro-virus and some forms of schizophrenia. The researcher had found pro-virus dna in the blood of several patients, meaning that the pro-virus was active. But he didn't know how a small segment in the DNA could become active by itself like that, nor did he know the mechanisms behind it.
Then Dr. Geraud stunned the crowd. He stated that he had researched the human DNA and discovered what appeared to be bio-engineered sections in our own DNA. Silence followed for a few minutes as the throngs of scientists and reporters digested the implications of this. Then silence was followed by laughter and mockery.
Who would have thought it? Humans bio-engineered? Pure tripe! They all said so. But they were all so desperately wrong. I laugh now to think of it. But the doctor, the poor fool, let loose his next fusilade at the walls of intellectual superstition and let it be known that he'd identified a few of the 'useless' sections of our DNA as actually being useful when turned on. And he let it be known that he'd actually activated a few of those sections in some of his subjects in tests.
At first, the scientific community went insane with rage. A few dared to say that the doctor was playing God. Poor sick fools, they all denied His existence, and now they invoked Him as a King Arthur to the doctor's Mordred. But years passed, and research went on, as it always does. And the promise of a new era in medicine came to light. They found dormant DNA sections that could be used to repair unheard of damage to the body. They found out how to make the nerves fire faster, making boxing an even more difficult sport where the combatants already had a hard time seeing the movements of the other. But then, then they found a section of DNA that was even more complex than anything they'd found so far. And just as dormant as the others. They studied it for a year, and modeled the section, and postulated it's uses.
And then the folly of it all came to pass. They activated the section. Remember the viruses I mentioned earlier? Oh yes, yes there are worse things than ebola in the world. And mankind carried this one in his own genetic code. Schizophrenia was a warning to us. A warning not to activate the dormant sections in our DNA. Fools! All of us... And it was there all the time. And we did it to ourselves. The ones who engineered us didn't have to put us down. They merely had to wait and we'd do it ourselves, once we got smart enough to.
And we died. All of us. By the millions we dropped. Dead as the lake in Utah. And so I sit here and wait for my own end, with my drink and my time dripping away from me. I wait for them to come and see the end of what they started all that time ago when they engineered us for our own destruction.
I wish I knew what the doctor thought of al....
