Giving priority to what is most important, I have decided to swallow my pride. I had a dustup with a moderator. I lost. Though I think the moderators need a tuneup they ain't so bad really. I depend on them to keep this site from becomming a free for all whacko hate site. I used to push the abuse button quite frequently on my fave undesirables ... anti-semite, haters. I notice they're a bit thin around here lately.
It is most important that Free Republic live and thrive. It is less important that I get things my way around here. Though I do not agree completely with the proposition that it is Jim's site and he can do with it what he damn will pleases ... It's as much our site, collectively, as it is his now. Perhaps Jim does ride herd a bit too hard on this creation he gave birth to. Fact is I don't know. I simply don't have enough information.
But it is a given that FR is the best there is at what it does. If it's only my morning paper and a place to exercise my verbal skills ... it's worth supporting. Now is the time for all level headed thinking FReepers to come to the aid of our wounded friend ... Free Republic.
Badjoe has already admitted that those two moderators were not responsible for a disproportionate share of the suspensions. IMO this was a libertarian uprising. That is great and if the new rules are actually implemented I will be more than happy to work within them because the libertarians will have no one to cry to later.
If you leave now, you're leaving out of personal choice, not out of upholding your word...a technicality I suppose. Perhaps you grow tired of that screen name and wish for another. Ah well, it's not my concern. So long.
I'm not tired of my screen name. And what I said about you "working this just right" was a joke; otherwise, I would have excluded the ";)" I placed at the end of that sentence.
The first thing you did when Jim pleaded for Registered's return was to ping and high-five those who share your feelings about my promised departure, and you have been "dancing on my corpse" for days. It puzzled me a little that you had written me at least two "I'm not paying the ransom until the baby is back in my arms" posts, and I was merely responding to them - trying to do this with a little grace and a bit of humor.
That's all.
It was just a thread, Not good not bad. Sort of like many I have seen you destroy over time. Look you have a real history here so don't start throwing stones from that glass house of yours. If you meant what you posted in this vanity then the proof will be on other threads that you would have, in the past, gone postal on.
I'm hearing that everywhere.
It would be shame to see this place turn into a large version of LP; you won't find many Bush supporters there, and, to coin a phrase, "There goes the neighborhood."
BADJOE has already identified these two as a problem. And I know too many good conservatives that were blown outta here for that to be the only story...though it's true, there was a big purge on libertarians.
BS. Name the libertarians that were purged.
LOL .. Thanks Libby
Sorry but collectivism is a concept welcomed by the left and an aboration to what FR stands for. Regardless of your viewpoint FR is owned and operated by JimRob, thus by default is "his to do what he damn well pleases to do."
FR is an extention of the 1st ammendment. The owner of the press (FR web site) has the right to print what he wants (and live with the consequences of doing so) and those who use it (us FReepers) are priveledged to post here what we think we can get away with (constrained by the good nature, judgement and tolerance of JimRob and his designated moderators.)
The fact that we donate to FR does not make us anymore owners of FR, than subsribers of the LA Time or Washington Post would be owners of those newspapers. At no time has JimRob offered up shares of FR for investment (besides being a bad business plan, it probably would be illegal to do that using FR itself), therefore no one besides JimRob has any claim to owning FR but JimRob.
It is good that you are coming back into the FR fold and chipping in to keep the electrons flowing, but don't think that FR will live or die based on one FReeper's participation or donation - other than JimRob, of course. :) And if I know JimRob, I'm sure he is grooming JohnRob to run things, if he is no longer able to run things himself (may that day be a long way away.)
Sorry to hear that Registered has gone off the reservation, but even that great loss will not stop FR. FR exists because it attracts the greatists politically inquiring minds and focuses their efforts to defend the Constitution. If that market of patriots ever dries up, then we're in even deeper trouble than any Anti-Fer could create.
Ok, I did that.
and you have been "dancing on my corpse" for days.
One day, I believe, to be precise.
It puzzled me a little that you had written me at least two "I'm not paying the ransom until the baby is back in my arms" posts
It only seems fair for you to wait until the other party actually comes through with their part of the bargain. I actually have doubts that he will be back. I could be wrong.
I would also like to know if 2 out of 9 moderators are responsible for all the problems. Are they on duty 24/7?

Well, judging from some of the prodigal children that have made appearances and the groveling appeals to the Bush haters, FR and LP could become sister sites. One never knows............lol
As I said on that other thread, these arguments do Free Republic no credit, and they serve no useful purpose. Web communities such as this are strong enough to survive attacks from outside; but bickering from within is a lot more damaging.
We are about two weeks away from the anniversary of one of the most tragic events in modern history. Surely the memory of that should be sufficient to concentrate the minds of those here on who their real enemies are. The squabbles between libertarians and conservatives, Bush supporters versus Keyes supporters, pale into insignificance in comparison.
I would urge everyone, as I asked before, please put aside petty squabbles. What good will it do except to give the fools over at DU comfort, a snide chuckle at our expense. I can picture them now, laughing at the thought that FR is imploding. I can imagine Marxists with an upturned grin talking about FR being tormented by the weight of it's "internal contradictions".
Finally, there should be room on this site for all conservatives of good will. I hope I am not being overly optimistic in saying that most people here are of good will, good character and of an honourable and decent nature. It was certainly true in 1998. It was true during the Florida Debacle. Let's prove it once again.
Regards, Ivan
Okay, who are you and what have you done with Fred Mertz? LOL! :) (Noted and very much appreciated, Fred.)
It'd also be a shame to see this place looking like a RNC convention.
Tex, since I am not a libertarian I don't keep track of names. It has been a general observation of mine. Maybe I am wrong.
There is room for both, and that is one of the strengths of FR.
Regards, Ivan
