I Am Reinstating My Previously Witheld Monthly Payment To FR
vanity | 08-26-02 | mercy

Posted on 08/26/2002 9:57:23 AM PDT by mercy

Giving priority to what is most important, I have decided to swallow my pride. I had a dustup with a moderator. I lost. Though I think the moderators need a tuneup they ain't so bad really. I depend on them to keep this site from becomming a free for all whacko hate site. I used to push the abuse button quite frequently on my fave undesirables ... anti-semite, haters. I notice they're a bit thin around here lately.

It is most important that Free Republic live and thrive. It is less important that I get things my way around here. Though I do not agree completely with the proposition that it is Jim's site and he can do with it what he damn will pleases ... It's as much our site, collectively, as it is his now. Perhaps Jim does ride herd a bit too hard on this creation he gave birth to. Fact is I don't know. I simply don't have enough information.

But it is a given that FR is the best there is at what it does. If it's only my morning paper and a place to exercise my verbal skills ... it's worth supporting. Now is the time for all level headed thinking FReepers to come to the aid of our wounded friend ... Free Republic.

With regard to the two moderators in question, it's been my experience in business and elsewhere that people that exhibit an extreme unfitness for a position rarely redeem themselves. Most likely they will cool it for awhile and resume their natural behavior at a later point in time.

Badjoe has already admitted that those two moderators were not responsible for a disproportionate share of the suspensions. IMO this was a libertarian uprising. That is great and if the new rules are actually implemented I will be more than happy to work within them because the libertarians will have no one to cry to later.

I am not trying to work anything. And even if I were, I haven't spoken with Registered since way before he left, and rarely at that. I'd have to check my emails.

If you leave now, you're leaving out of personal choice, not out of upholding your word...a technicality I suppose. Perhaps you grow tired of that screen name and wish for another. Ah well, it's not my concern. So long.

I'm not tired of my screen name. And what I said about you "working this just right" was a joke; otherwise, I would have excluded the ";)" I placed at the end of that sentence.

The first thing you did when Jim pleaded for Registered's return was to ping and high-five those who share your feelings about my promised departure, and you have been "dancing on my corpse" for days. It puzzled me a little that you had written me at least two "I'm not paying the ransom until the baby is back in my arms" posts, and I was merely responding to them - trying to do this with a little grace and a bit of humor.

That's all.

I'm pleading with you .... this was a good thread. Don't end it badly for us all.

It was just a thread, Not good not bad. Sort of like many I have seen you destroy over time. Look you have a real history here so don't start throwing stones from that glass house of yours. If you meant what you posted in this vanity then the proof will be on other threads that you would have, in the past, gone postal on.

IMO this was a libertarian uprising.

I'm hearing that everywhere.

It would be shame to see this place turn into a large version of LP; you won't find many Bush supporters there, and, to coin a phrase, "There goes the neighborhood."

BADJOE has already identified these two as a problem. And I know too many good conservatives that were blown outta here for that to be the only story...though it's true, there was a big purge on libertarians.

Don't leave. You made a statement in the heat of the moment and I wouldn't expect you to abide by it.

To be honest, 36 hours later, I forgot who made that statement. A few will try to cram it down your throat, but I won't.

Sorry but collectivism is a concept welcomed by the left and an aboration to what FR stands for. Regardless of your viewpoint FR is owned and operated by JimRob, thus by default is "his to do what he damn well pleases to do."

FR is an extention of the 1st ammendment. The owner of the press (FR web site) has the right to print what he wants (and live with the consequences of doing so) and those who use it (us FReepers) are priveledged to post here what we think we can get away with (constrained by the good nature, judgement and tolerance of JimRob and his designated moderators.)

The fact that we donate to FR does not make us anymore owners of FR, than subsribers of the LA Time or Washington Post would be owners of those newspapers. At no time has JimRob offered up shares of FR for investment (besides being a bad business plan, it probably would be illegal to do that using FR itself), therefore no one besides JimRob has any claim to owning FR but JimRob.

It is good that you are coming back into the FR fold and chipping in to keep the electrons flowing, but don't think that FR will live or die based on one FReeper's participation or donation - other than JimRob, of course. :) And if I know JimRob, I'm sure he is grooming JohnRob to run things, if he is no longer able to run things himself (may that day be a long way away.)

Sorry to hear that Registered has gone off the reservation, but even that great loss will not stop FR. FR exists because it attracts the greatists politically inquiring minds and focuses their efforts to defend the Constitution. If that market of patriots ever dries up, then we're in even deeper trouble than any Anti-Fer could create.

One day, I believe, to be precise.

It only seems fair for you to wait until the other party actually comes through with their part of the bargain. I actually have doubts that he will be back. I could be wrong.

I would also like to know if 2 out of 9 moderators are responsible for all the problems. Are they on duty 24/7?

Well, judging from some of the prodigal children that have made appearances and the groveling appeals to the Bush haters, FR and LP could become sister sites. One never knows............lol

All of us just killed a thread on Sunday because it was getting out of hand with the venom and ill feeling it was stirring up. The purpose behind that extensive thread killing exercise was not so another thread could bring those arguments back to life.

As I said on that other thread, these arguments do Free Republic no credit, and they serve no useful purpose. Web communities such as this are strong enough to survive attacks from outside; but bickering from within is a lot more damaging.

We are about two weeks away from the anniversary of one of the most tragic events in modern history. Surely the memory of that should be sufficient to concentrate the minds of those here on who their real enemies are. The squabbles between libertarians and conservatives, Bush supporters versus Keyes supporters, pale into insignificance in comparison.

I would urge everyone, as I asked before, please put aside petty squabbles. What good will it do except to give the fools over at DU comfort, a snide chuckle at our expense. I can picture them now, laughing at the thought that FR is imploding. I can imagine Marxists with an upturned grin talking about FR being tormented by the weight of it's "internal contradictions".

Finally, there should be room on this site for all conservatives of good will. I hope I am not being overly optimistic in saying that most people here are of good will, good character and of an honourable and decent nature. It was certainly true in 1998. It was true during the Florida Debacle. Let's prove it once again.

Regards, Ivan

What the Libertarian advocates don't understand is that 3rd party movements are most efficacious in the primaries only. If, say, 22% of the voters in a primary election voted for either the Libertarian or the Communist Party candidate, then the Democratic candidate in the general election would be more amenable to the moral-liberal social causes those constituents care a lot about.

It'd also be a shame to see this place looking like a RNC convention.

There is room for both, and that is one of the strengths of FR.

NittanyLion:

By the way, there are no rogue or out of control moderators. I think I've covered this about a thousand times. The moderators are only doing what I ask them to do. Sheesh! Give me a break. If you guys want to attack someone attack me. The moderators are doing a great job! And I thank them for it and I appreciate their hard work and dedication to the task. If after all this, you still don't understand the basics of what this dispute was all about and or understand the terms of our reconciliation, then I doubt that there is much hope for you. Perhaps you would feel more comfortable on another forum? This war is over. Joe and I both ate crow and have settled the thing for the greater of all. Now, let's let it drop. Please.

BadJoe:

I thank you very much for helping me to settle this thing and I appreciate all you have done for us. And I know that we are going to do great things together in the future.

Moderators:

That goes ditto for you. The job you are doing is terrific and I love you all for it. There is no words I can use that will convey my deep sense of appreciation. You've actually given me a life away from my keyboard. The chains to my desk have been broken and I can actually go out somewhere once in awhile and not have to worry so much about the disruptors making a huge disaster on FR. I actually took a ten day road trip last summer and a five day trip this summer. Not to mention my Friday and Saturday time off for Street FReeping. Without your help none of that would've been impossible. of course that's not important to anyone but me, but I thank you for it very much. And I think most of the FReepers appreciate you for the help and assistance you offer around the clock seven days per week, not to mention keeping the board clear of disruptors and general nastiness. I thank you a million times!

And to all:
And I'm thankful this mess is over with. Please let's let it drop.
