We just bought our first house and moved in 3 weeks ago. Our back yard is a hillside with oaks. Very lovely. The yard was hideously neglected, and I'm having to remove a lot of stuff. Your photos of flowers and such have inspired me - I'm going to take "before" and "after" photos and maybe some "inbetween" photos. This is going to be a big job, but a labor of love.

Thanks for throwing up the healing links - I'm hoping and praying that folks will take the time to re-examine their motives and goals, and decide that we have more in common than we have in our differences.

Won't help my puter, it's a PCCHIPS M585LMR motherboard, in other words, it needs to become a boat anchor or an artillery target.
And the problem lies with AOL/IE on my machine. MSHTML.DLL keeps crashing, and IE refuses to even go anywhere, even my homepage. So I am stuck with Netscrape.

Well, I sure am the late one getting here...just was too busy going to the store, cleaning the house, washing clothes, cooking BigDoms dinner, playing with Dizzy...etc, etc....I was busy, busy, busy....
Well, poor BigDom...he had planned to have a nice 3 day Labor Day weekend, but due to the trusty post office, he has to work on Saturday....its not enough he works 11, and recently 12 hours a day, during the week, now they have a whole herd of worker bees coming in on Saturday....he could hardly refuse, being as he has not worked a 6th non scheduled day in some time....When you are on the ODL(overtime desired list), at the post office, when they say come in, you best come in...
So poor BigDom will have to work Saturday...oh well, like he says, its massive overtime(your postal dollars at work), and one can always use more money...but at least they did not have him come in on Sunday instead, thereby breaking up the days off...at least he will have both Sunday and Monday off, plenty of time for he and I to journey to Tacoma, and cause some havoc in our search for more beer and more eats, and new and interesting places to party....
Grannie....that pic looks idyllic....
Mo....fantastic pic of the basset....look at them ears...that doggie looks like it could just take off flying...thanks....

Gran, after seeing that drawing, what do you think I should stick in the background? I'm still sitting with a brain fog on that one.....

You two are dangerous when in pursuit of beer and eats....and chairs ;-)
To: habs4ever
Indeed, we are a dangerous combo...
Many years ago, after we had attended Andys college graduation in Ithaca NY(Oh, no, the city of evil, according to many Freepers), we had to get to back to New York City for our flight back to Washington State...but we had planned things out, so that we would have a few days to spend in New York City...
Andy was quite horrified, because on the one hand, even tho both BigDom and I had been born and raised in Chicago, we had lived most of our married life living in the countryside...and Andy felt we were too 'innocent' and might get hurt in the big city of New York, or get taken advantage of...
On the other hand, he also knew how rowdy BigDom and I can get, and he feared for the city, and that we might wind up locked up in jail....
Well, BigDom and I had a good time, did not cause immense trouble, and no one dared to take advantage of us....
Andy breathed a sigh of relief, when I called him, while he was still living in Ithaca, (he was spending some extra time in Ithaca saying good bye to all his friends)...he was just glad that we had a good time, and had left New York as we found it, and we were safe and sound back in the country where he felt we belonged...
To: andysandmikesmom
Did Andy think Mom and Pop got off a turnip truck? I too like the basset pic Mo posted, its a hoot.
To: habs4ever
You know kids..they think they invented everything, even fun....
I must say, BigDom and I do surprise Andy....but he actually likes it that way...I think he thought we would be overly lonesome with him grown up and on his own...
I think part of that belief comes, because he always remembered how hard it was for us when Mike died, and that has always seemed to stay in the back of his mind...
So, it does ease his mind, when he sees us doing well and having a good time without him, on our own....
The empty nest does have its advantages...
To: andysandmikesmom
...except when he returns home to find not a chair in the house!!! LOL
To: habs4ever
We have not relayed our broken chair episode to him, and doubt that we will..somehow kids never want to hear about that part of their parents lives....
Which is so very amusing, considering how does he think he got here? Did we find him and Mike in the cabbage patch?
But kids seem to be very touchy about that part of their parents lives...
I remember once, when I worked at this bank, a fellow employee who worked there, had three kids...one was 21, one was 19, and the third was 2....when she announced to her other two children, who were then 19 and 17, that she was having another baby, her kids were just so horrified...
First, they found it so unbelievable that their 'old' parents were still having sex, and secondly they were embarassed for all their friends to know this...it was so funny the way she told that story...
Of course, once the little guy came along, the two older kids were thrilled with the new baby....but they were ever leary, that their 'old' parents might dare have sex again, and present them with another baby....
To: Darksheare
Hi Darks.. I feel so bad that your picture got lost in the shuffle of the last few days.. Mea Culpa...
I meant to ask you if you wanted it linked. I will have to look at it again.. Maybe it doesn't need anything special in the background.. it might only detract from the foreground..
