Various News Sources and Free Republic Members | Aug. 15, 2002 | All of Us

Good morning everyone!

An article posted overnight reminds me that the 2002 elections are not far away.

Here in ATRW land we're paying attention to the N.J. Senate race, and the Maryland Gov. race.

Next Tuesday, there are more primaries, and we can expect more and more polls.

Yippee!! NOT!

And the 2002 Summer Vacation Season winds down.

Chairman, have a perfectly wonderful vacation, and return to us rested and recharged!

Don't feel like cleaning??? :-) #10..my favorite.

1. Vacuuming too often weakens the carpet fibers.

2. Dust bunnies can evolve into dust rhinos when disturbed.

3. Layers of dirty film on windows and screens provide a helpful filter against harmful and aging rays from the sun. It has an SPF factor of 5

4. Cobwebs artfully draped over lampshades reduce the glare from the bulb, thereby creating a romantic atmosphere.

5. The haphazard tower of unread magazines and newspapers next to your chair provides the valuable protection from a tiger attack.

6. Mounds of pet hair brushed up against the doorways should not be removed as it can be used for stuffing hand sewn play animals for underprivileged children.

7. If unexpected company is coming, pile everything unsightly into one room and close the door. As you show your guests through your tidy home, rattle the door knob vigorously, fake a growl and say, "I'd love you to see our den, but Fluffy hates to be disturbed and the shots are SO expensive."

8. If dusting is REALLY out of control, simply place a showy urn on the coffee table and insist that "THIS is where Grandma wanted us to scatter her ashes..."

9. Don't bother repainting. Simply scribble lightly over a dirty wall with an assortment of crayons, and try to muster a glint of tears as you say, "Johnny did this when he was two. I haven't had the heart to clean it..."

10. Mix one-quarter cup pine-scented household cleaner with four cups of water in a spray bottle. Mist the air lightly. Leave dampened rags in conspicuous locations. Develop an exhausted look, throw yourself onto the couch, and sigh, "I clean and I clean and I still don't get anywhere..."

Lysie, the sad part is I may just end up using some of these excuses in the fall. My schedule is full, full, full. If I MUST give up something, cleaning will be it! LOL!! I enjoyed #10 too!

Here on the coast it is saying 'I want to rain but-----' then, 'don't want to rain but-----'. Who knows what it is going to do.

Israel, just said on the news that if Say-Damn starts attcking them they will respond with nukes. I don't think the USA will be able to talk them from responding as was the case in the last war with him. Say-Damn is waiting for his Arab fellow evil doers to come to his aid and attack the Jews, they say, 'no thank you, we have been there and done that, four times and they kicked our rears big time'.
Say-Damn is living in a world that is his own and he has no clue of what is going to happen to him. Whats the old saying? You can run but you can't hide?

My house really isn't really that bad. No doubt about it when there are lots of pets in the house...cleaning is hourly.

It's hard to keep up during the summer because of all the outside work.

I remember during the election how we all were comparing dust bunnies. LOL

Seriously thinking about getting a dishwasher even though I don't mind doing dishes. The fact is that is my quiet time gazing mindlessly out the window. :-)

GC6, I happened to think about you last night, not because you think you're an old feller either. Nightline did a program on a volunteer security force in Delray Beach, FL. These guys are ex-military retirees, in their 80's, helping the Delray PD mainly by going into the gov't bldgs and looking around, talking to the people, etc. Keeping their eyes open.

Apparently Delray Beach was shocked to learn that many of the Sept. 11 hijackers had been staying there.

Kudos to these patriots for wanting to remain ever vigilant...and do something productive about "homeland security"

Re the Airlines,,,I want to know what they did with all the money they got right AFTER 9/11 with their big arse government bail-out,,,NOW they claim to be bankrupt?? GIve me a break.
My thoughts exactly, Nita! It's good you got a chance to check in, I was fearing an uprising on the thread unless we heard from you! So glad to hear that your day has started off well.

HOB, I can't wait to see those pics of Panda pup.

Molly, our most recent Thread Queen, thanks for getting us up and running this morning and for the compliment. :) I haven't had the T.V. on much lately, so have missed the promo for that movie. If you say it looks good, then I know I'd think the same. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Singapore Yank, that's nice they gave you a break on your meal last night. You certainly deserved it! That school just better find some way to show you some appreciation for all your time and effort. And please do give some serious consideration to gulfcoast's suggestion. You have a gift with words and you must have many interesting experiences to relate. BTW, yes, I do find it very strange that you're living in the Bible Belt and have an hour's drive to church!

gc6, I too love my crockpot. Your meals always sound so delish.

ClaraS, that's great that you get to have a mini vacation and attend a retreat. Is it a Christian women's retreat or what? BTW, I saw mention a while back that freeper Beep had been in a serious accident, was in a coma but came out of it. I'm wondering if you know how she is doing now.

kassie, such an early bird, you made first this a.m. It's nice to know that your folks are doing well and that your son was anxious to get back to his studies. I so appreciate the kind words you often leave for me at the end of the thread.

lysie, you're good at finding the funny stuff! Isn't it irritating the way FOX doesn't caption until 6 a.m. and not at all on the week-ends? I am looking forward to the day when all programs on all stations are captioned 24/7. Do you think that day will ever arrive?

DallasGal, well, here you are! I've been wondering what had become of you. Good to see you again!

Morning all: Where is DJ?

We listened to a liberal radio show last night (we NEVER learn) and he read from an article saying the Firefighters and Policemen in NYC would boycott our President from now on and would encourage all to vote Democrat in the elections. Said Senator Daschle spoke to the group and told them "he couldn't believe the President wouldn't sign the bill that would have given them financial aid and that he would do everything in his power to get the money to them." He is so SLIMY....eeuw!

What do you all know about this and where can I read the details?

It is not a bad idea for us older folks to do their part, that is if the powers who are will accept us. I speak as being a ex Chief of Police, sometimes the current Chiefs think we are going to horn in on their tuff, sad but true. In my case I offered but, no thank you but thank you. We DO have a lot to offer, believe me, a lot. So go the world today, facts are facts.

Dallas, such a good city. The first girl friend I ever had, she was going to a girls school in Vicksbugh, MS and me at a military academy in Port Gibson, MS, was from Dallas. One fine looking girl, sweet as aple pie and nice as could be. Oh the past, it sometimes haunts you.

And speaking of "little Tommie and little Dickie"!!! Someone posted a picture on ATRW that was priceless - it showed the two of them on tricyles. Do you all remember? Can we find it and post it again? It just seems so appropriate with elections coming up and those to JERKS are out there lying and scaring again.

These people were so cute *L* Men and women who were volunteering to do this...they had uniforms, radios, jaunty little berets. The men said they figured people would laugh at them, but were pleasantly surprised that they didn't but in fact welcomed them with open arms.

GC6, the Chief at Delray was/is fairly new and he gave his man who heads the volunteer program the go. This guy said he put the word out to his volunteers and they were rearing to go.

It would be nice for all communities to embrace such a program.

*smile* Dallas is a nice place. I work in Dallas, but live closer to Fort Worth...much more laid back on that side of the Metroplex

Molly ~~~ thanks for starting the thread. Seems like old times to some of us ....... :-)

If anyone has time to refute some of the replies on this thread, please do so ...... I don't have time right now to jump into the fray ......

CATO INSTITUTE: CLINTON MORE FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE THAN BUSH

I probably won't be back until late this afternoon ......

Hope each of you has a great day!

Hi Lorena,

It has been a highly stressful time for me here at the office and in my personal life as well, so I've had no time to see what's happening at ATRW.

Say a prayer for me. I have been asked by one of our associate ministers to facilitate our Disciple III bible study program, which is a 32 week course on the Prophets and the Letters of Paul. I have no idea why I agreed to do it. And on top of that I am team teaching 3rd grade Sunday School.

There were some brief showers in places yesterday but nothing significant ...... and nothing at all in my back yard. It's really scary to see rivers drying up ......

there are piers on the river that are now high and dry .....

..... boat ramps are being closed ..... local lakes are being considered dangerous because rocks usually well under water are now exposed.

Even trees are showing signs of stress ..... leaves drooping.

The situation in this whole region is getting critical .......
