Good morning everyone!
An article posted overnight reminds me that the 2002 elections are not far away.
Here in ATRW land we're paying attention to the N.J. Senate race, and the Maryland Gov. race.
Next Tuesday, there are more primaries, and we can expect more and more polls.
Yippee!! NOT!
And the 2002 Summer Vacation Season winds down.
Chairman, have a perfectly wonderful vacation, and return to us rested and recharged!

Next week, SSgt ***** and I get to spend 4 wonderful fun-filled days and nights with 21 brats between the ages of 18 and 22. We'll be living in the field in tents, and practicing those things that the brats haven't studied. The location will be complete with scorpions, chiggers, skeeters, and rattlesnakes.
Entertainment to be provided by the military. That's about it.

It is good to be home. Quick observations: when going through Singapore and you have eighteen hours to kill, don't even get your luggage off the carousel.
Skip immigration, turn right and go upstairs to the transit hotel. Get a room with a bath and you can sleep. They rent rooms by the HOUR, not day, and are extremely good with the wake-up calls.
When you check in at your next flight, give the attendent your luggage claim checks. They will retrieve your luggage, send it on the way and you won't have a single worry with it.
Bali is beautiful. If you're going, ask me where to stay. I had a nice room for twenty-five dollars a night and good, delicious meals cost about two dollars.
For an adventure in language, try teaching a skill like crocheting in your second language!
And lastly, I did not think there was a network worse than CNN. But there is.
The BBC.

I am so glad you made it home safe and sound!

Prayers of joy for your safe return home, Jem. You must be tired. Rest for a day or two, if the family will let you.

Quite tantalizing tidbits you've thrown out there!
I'm afraid that I couldn't teach crocheting in my own language much less across a language barrier. My mother crocheted beautifully and tried to teach me for years with no success ...... I finally figured out that it was because she was left-handed and I'm right-handed. I finally learned a little bit ...... from a right-hander, who told me that it's almost like teaching it in a foreign language if teacher and student don't use the same hand ......
I gather you didn't punch out any customs agents anywhere along the line? ..... *grins*

I gather you didn't punch out any customs agents anywhere along the line? ..... *grins*Actually, I only went through customs once, when I entered Indonesia.
I was rather amusing in that you have to declare purchases over $250. So I declared my hearing aids ($2000!) and eyeglasses and then I had to declare my drugs.
I was questioned about the hearing aids; but showed him my ears and that was okay. Then he asked about my glasses. I was currently wearing contacts!
Then came the drug question, how do you explain a female hormone drug to a man in another language in whose culture you NEVER talk about things like that!
But I made it through with no problem.

I am so glad to hear you are home safe and sound! Nice comments about Bali, which I will file away in case I ever need them.
The BBC is nutty. Thanks for the confirmation.

how do you explain a female hormone drug to a man in another language in whose culture you NEVER talk about things like that!"Mi esposa es muy peligrosa." That should about cover it for the guys that have to talk to customs agents.... (ducking)

Hi Jemian! Wish I could have been there in Singapore to keep you company on your layover. So glad you made it back safely.
I certainly agree with you about the BBC. My wife used to listen to BBC radio in the mornings and during the election standoff there were many mornings I came very close to tossing the radio down from our 12th floor window.
I also love Bali. I've been there twice to teach and both times got a half-day of play time at the beach where I kinda learned to bodysurf. I always stayed away from all the tourist areas as I was invited by our Indonesian base and that made it even more special to me. Bali is actually the only place in Indonesia I've ever been, despite the fact that for over a year I could see Indonesia from my window.

I believe that pose would have been used to get me out of some serious fixes. My repentance was a sight and sound feast. I was very dramatic and manipulative.
Of course in the nicest possible way for a blue eyed blonde four year old.
Oh, by the way I was the baby of five children. No one got all their bacon at breakfast, because I needed it. What a brat!
It's a wonder I wasn't placed in a gunny sack and dropped in the river!
To: JRandomFreeper
You are very confident for a man about to sleep in the wild with crazy young men!
The word could get out about your secret stash.....peligrosa indeed!

Har. I've been outwitting teenagers for a while now. Before that, I was one. They shall gain no advantage.... ;>)
Besides, the TDYs have announced that they would sacrifice one of the bratlings on the first night, just so everything goes smoothly. I've been cranky enough the last week, they almost believe us. (no idiots will be injured in the production of next week)
On the other subject...Well, if I had to explain what the pills were for, I would use that sentence. Trill's spanish is even worse than mine. GRIN!

President George W. Bush greets two of the McCaughey septuplets after arriving at Des Moines International Airport in Iowa, August 14, 2002. Bush called on corporate America to follow "the good old-fashioned farm values" as a way to restore confidence among investors shaken by a series of corporate scandals that sent the stock market plummeting. (Larry Downing/Reuters)
Those are two of the McCaughey septuplets with the President ... the little sweethearts, aren't they adorable and so big now! I'm glad to know the parents are Bush supporters.
LOL, still lurking, you were quite the little scamp.

Ah come on, just one idiot hurt just a little?

You know what struck me about that picture?
If that had been President Clinton I would have had the sickest feeling and would have warned the girls away.
Thank you Lord for President Bush!
