It must have been esp that made me take this photo yesterday.. It has a big write up in todays newspaper about restoring it to it's past beauty, with additions on both ends and a new road around the back of it. It is on a beautiful point of land.
It was in a movie a couple of years ago.. I wish I could remember the name of it.. Scary movie, but a good one.. Anyone? They found a dead dog in one of the downstairs rooms.. I don't believe it was a Steven King.. but the actors took over the town at the time.. Lots of locals watched them film the movie, and no one missed it around here..lol
It will open next year after being closed since 1982, and will celebrate it's 108th year anniversary..
Historic fact.. In 1905 it housed the Russian, Japanese and American delegation to end the Russo-Japanese War.
They have just restored another big famous hotel up near Jefferson..where Al comes from. The Mountain View House. It is lovely and what a view of the mountains.. They are coming back, some of the old ones.. Can't keep a good lady down... lol

The marshes around here are beautiful.. I love to see all the pathways thru the dark lush green fields of grass.. I did an oil painting of one once.. Not very good, but quite colorful..as I did capture that wonderful bright green. I guess one of my kids have it now..

An old painting done from 1909. Original Hotel. Wow it was a lot bigger. No wonder they are adding on both sides..

Goodness - what a monstrosity. What was the book about the family that featured a bear, and the kid who thought the warning was about the undertoad, instead of undertow?
Aha - Undertoad entered in Google helped. John Irving was the author and The World According to Garp was his first smash hit novel.
I think they vacationed on the NH seashore. ?

Monstrosity being the hotel not that fascinating old house on the seacoast - great link, thank you.
They were not going to have any snow buildup on their roof.

The Mountain View Hotel, Whitefield, NH
This must be a new pic, because I don't see the big gardens.. Must have been taken last fall before it opened this spring..
A few in Al's family worked here in the summer as older kids.. In fact it's where his brother met and married his wife..

This is called a "comtemporary" house, built in 1987, but it looks very similar to the construction of centuries gone by. Looks more NE traditional to me.

Palo and all,
Just a note to thank all who sent messages of sympathy at the loss of my little kittym Nacho. It has been a really tough week made worst by a flare up of Menieres Syndrome. But your wonderful words and concern were a tremendous help. I have printed off all your messages and will keep them with Nacho's things.
The grandkids arrive late tonite and I need to get some things done before they arrive..like make cookies....Gramps is going to take them camping this week and they have to have those vitimins!Talk to you later.
