Good evening all....gosh sounds like Grannie and Neets had wild and wooly weather today....glad to know that they are both ok....

Here is just too warm for me...had to take a nap, laying under the ceiling fan, cold washcloth on my face, you would think it was about 110 degrees instead of 86...I just dont like it myself, once it gets above 75 or so....

Dizzy is all stretch out on his chair, on his back, paws stretched out, trying to get some cool air on his tummy....he does not like this heat either...hes got that long, long fur, and that does not help in this heat....

But, by the end of the week it should be back down near the 70 degree mark, so all should be well...

BigDom says working last nite on the trusty post office docks, moving heavy carts loaded with mail, was a real trial in the heat...poor guy...

scandal isn't good for the market
seems crucial companies be honest and do honest accounting
I wouldn't invest in corrupt company
I figure 80% are honest but 20% may have some problems

Your uncle should be in cash ;-) He can always buy it back if its ok.He won't miss anything, but will sleep better at night for not being invested.Take his losses and move on.

I know.Voice of hard experience, and all that jive ;-)

Most problems have been due to companies that were too heavily in debt, trying to use accounting gimmickry to stave off the inevitable. They lost pricing power, couldn't roll over debt, cash flows declined substantially, and now they in big doo-doo.

The US has been experiencing a severe monetary deflation going on 4 yrs and it has caught up to high debt businesses. And the stock market. What ails America is a made in DC problem, alas.

being hot is no fun andysmom
we put up with it on desert cause we're happy to be spared cold in winter
and we're addicted to bluesky and sunshine
but we've started to count the days till it's over
school kids go back on august 15th in tucson, which helps psychologically
back to school is so ''autumn'' spirited
I'm glad cool relief is on its way for you and BigDom and Dizzy
Love, Palo

I love the autumn...its my favorite season, always has been, even when I was a kid...I love the trees turning colors, the crispiness in the air, and looking forward to the holidays....September here is just wonderful...the autumn rains have not started yet, the sky is crispy clear and blue, and Mt. Rainier is usually visible almost every day....its still warm enough to enjoy being outdoors, and chilly at night, for good sleeping...

By mid October, the rains return...and usually by Halloween, the rains are in full force...the kids are just used to trick and treating in the rain, or most likely, its just like a heavy constant mist...

And actually, I like winter here, even tho its rainy, misty, and grey skies...I am just not all that enthusiastic about constant sunshine, and daylight until almost 10pm at night, which is how it is here in the summer...

Perhaps I am a vampire, being as I do enjoy the dark nights, and cloudy rainy days...

Yes, I am keeping my clothing on...when the telephone repair guy saw me, I was a young lady...now its almost 30yrs later...I think I would scare that telephone repair man today, rather than delight him...

I dont know anything
it just seems investors decide based on earnings statements
if they cooked the books to show they were making money when they were losing money
investors were duped
especially if it's all coming out now, so stocks ae tumbling
also sounds like they brought problems on themself
if instead of dealing with problems forthrightly
they were concerned with hiding them
I can see why they wanted to buy time
but who will trust company again who behaved dishonestly
Love, Palo

also problem is for honest companies, how will investors know their earnings statements are true?

I am like you
I am glad tucson does not have endless afternoons in summer
I like sunshine and blue sky in winter
because days are short
it keeps the cold out
winter nights are long so I like the bright light

autumn is nice in tucson too
but starts later for us than you
Love, Palo

The stocks were already in the tank.the market knows more, always will ;-)

And if a WorldCom or others get to $2 after being at $100, there's a good chance its going bust.It is VERY rare that the market gets caught completely off guard that something is amiss. The action of the stock tells you more than what you'll find out in the papers.

The tax code has become so complicated, due to Washington, that many accounting boo-boos are due to overly complex tax strategies to shelter income, or report one set of numbers to the IRS and another to the SEC, for Wall St.Companies like Enron were very convoluted, which is another sign that assets can be shifted around, to reach earnings targets, etc...

Simpler the biz, the easier should be the reporting.

You are right...BigDom is the only one who counts..

As for vacuuming au naturel, if this heat continues, that is indeed what may happen...
