Tonite TCM(Turner Classic Movies) is running some of the old 'ThinMan' movies with William Powell, Myrna Loy, and the one which is on now, also is going to have a very young Jimmy Stewart, as well as, I think, Ethel Barrymore....this movie was made in 1935...I sure love these old movies...
Last night I got to see, 'His Gal Friday' and the night before, it was 'A Tale of Two Cities'
I know lots of people here on FR, like to brag, how they dont even own a TV, or if they do, how they so seldom watch it...well, I for one would not be without my TV...
Just being able to watch all these wonderful old movies, is invaluable to me...I just love old movies...especially when one considers the crap that comes out of Hollywood today...some of it is good, but so very much of it is just plain bad, or uninteresting...

Thank Miss Palo...motherhood was a learning experience...I learned as I went along...I think that is the way with most moms, we just learn as we go along...
To: andysandmikesmom
Gosh darn, this 'Thin Man' is so darn funny...Nick and Nora are at the door, of the mansion of Noras relatives...Nick is seen mumbling at the door...Nora wants to know what he is doing..he says hes getting all the bad words out of his mouth before he goes inside...
They ring the bell...a butler, who looks about 110yrs old, and looks one day away from the grave, opens the door...Nick and Nora enter...Nick throws his coat over the butlers arm..the butler begins to tip over...
Then the butler, creaking and hunched over as he walks, tells Nick to 'walk this way'....so naturally Nick walks, creaking and hunched over, mocking the butler...this skit has been done over and over again, in current movies, and on TV programs, but no one could do it like William Powell, as Nick Charles...priceless...

to read their posts over there you'd think FR was soap opera in the years before we all arrived from Lcom
Lcom was different experience
we were small intimate site compared to FR
we poured out our truth, shared minds, loved each other
succeeded in our mission
and when site turned stale and bannings went amok we came to FR for a rich experience
and we are having lovely experience here

rofl that is funny
William Powell was great in those movies
and Myrna Loy was perfect complement
he was so talented William Powell

I really like FR...for many reasons....we can and do talk to each other....
There are so many different threads...religion, politics, threads about movies, threads about books, vanity threads, fun threads(like DD), current events, well, the list is vast...one can find many different subjects to read about and comment on...
The admin. moderators, are pretty generous, and let most folks have their say, and usually pretty rarely ban anyone..
There are so many posters here, from so many different backgrounds, age groups, locales, etc, that we are constantly learning new things all the time...
Yes, FR, is really quite the site, and I for one, am really happy here..

I got cable 8 years ago to get thru the endless tucson summer where it is too hot to go outside
and watched those old movies 24/7
(until monicagate broke and the news got interesting)
I love ''I Remember Mama'' and ''Anna and the King of Siam''
so many of those movies I had not seen
I also enjoyed ''The Farmer's Daughter'' I had never seen that one

I loved watching 'I Remember Mama' I think they turned that into a TV series...I seem to remember watching that when I was a very little girl...my mom especially liked it because the family, was supposed to be, I think, from Norway...and my moms family was all from Norway...
To: palo verde
We used to have cable, but it was always going out, and something would be wrong with the service...so we went to Satellite TV, and we love it...just have a small Satellite, on the roof, and a receiver in each room that has a television...the cost per month, for the same service that we had with cable, is about the same and we really like Satellite service better...
But thats because our cable service was just so bad all the time...we like Satellite also, because when we finally hit the road at retirement, we can just have a small Satellite ,put on the RV, and just change where it is pointed, with each move we make in the RV...
To: andysandmikesmom
yes andysmom I agree with you
there are so many posters here and it is interesting to meet them
I learn so much from all of them, cause each is unique and has had many different experiences
yet at same time, I see how we all shared something which transcends background
the opportunity for communication on FR is unparalleled

Yikes...I was really feeling warm, so checked the temp..its 91 here...a virtual heat wave...no wonder I am so warm....
It also says, its 93 in Tucson...
So you are probably feeling cooler, and I am feeling hotter, and yet we are at about the same temp...
Of course, for the rest of the week, we are going to be in the mid 80s and you are going to be over 100....
But for right now, this minute, we are both at about the same outside temp...how odd...
To: andysandmikesmom
LOL yes the tv series from ''I Remember Mama'' came on when I was very little
I loved it
I loved Dagmar most of all
the family is from Norway (as I remember it)
Love, Palo
To: andysandmikesmom
isn't that funny I suddenly felt very warm too
maybe because our 93 is filled with hot humidity
lol I dont think we've ever been the same temp before
it isnt such easy time here cause our earth has absorbed so much heat, it is boiling hot to put your foot down
we need refreshment, I hope it comes quick
Love, Palo

Dagmar...I had not thought of that name for years and years...thanks for that remembrance...
My favorite episode from 'I Remember Mama' was the one where they had that 'progressive dinner'...all the young teens from the school and got together, and planned to have this dinner, where they all went to one house for one meal course, then onto the next house for a course, and so on and so forth...
Well, the 'Mama' family teen, had prearranged with her family to have 'Baked Alaska', which she knew would make her a big hit, with the other gals, and especially the boys...but one of jealous girl rivals got wind of this, so she made he family make the Baked Alaska, so she would be the popular one..
Well the gal from the 'Mama' family, was all upset and did not know what to do...she called her family, and told them what had happened at her rivals house, and how her family could not serve their 'Baked Alaska' as it would look like she copied...
She just did not know what to do...but when she and all her friends got to the 'Mama' family house, they were all in for a big treat...they had popped popcorn, and were able to somehow get a hold of a movie projector, and some funny movie, and so they put on a movie show for the teens...
And the gal from the 'Mama' family was the biggest hit, and the gal with the 'Baked Alaska' was just a pouting...
I always remember and loved that episode...
To: palo verde
And we really get relief at nite...it will be right around the lows near 50 for the rest of the week...
Your lows will be around 80...so that hardly leaves any room for some good cooling off time...
