Our animals do know when its time to go...they just seem to have a sense about that...

Helga lived for years with our two other dogs, who were both mixed breeds..Sheeba had begun to stop eating, and just did not seem right...finally, as she was so old, I just knew it was time to get her to the vets to be euthanized...I called the vet, told him I would be right in, got Sheebas leash on her, and walked her out to the car...as we passed in front of the car, to get to the door, she lay down(actually fell over), breathed once, breathed again, and was gone...it happened so quickly...I have to believe she did not want to die at the vet office...she wanted to die at home...

Her son, our other mixed breed dog, Bully, never knew life unless she was by his side...he still had Helga, and me and BigDom, but he so mourned his mama...we tried to comfort him, but we could see him so sad...months passed, and he slowly got sadder and sadder, no matter what we did....finally he took to sitting out in the backyard, just feet away from where his mama, Sheeba was buried...he used to just sit and lay there for hours, as if waiting for his turn to go...we used to have to drag him in at night...

Then one morning, Helga was upset about something, like she wanted me to follow her...I got out of bed, and followed her, and there was Bully, near the sliding door to the outside...he was gone...Bless his broken heart, he did literally die of a broken heart...we buried him right next to his mama...

Helga lasted for another year or so...the last month before she died, she refused her dog food...all she would eat was the bakery fresh cookies, BigDom brought her, each day, followed by noisy drinks from her silver water bowl...

One night, she got up to move, screamed and fell over, screamed again, and was gone...she also, is buried out back, right next to her companions...

BigDom built each dog their own little coffin, and each dog is in its own private coffin, wrapped in their favorite blankets...

So all three of them died right here at home, which was easier on us, as we wanted to bury them at home...

We love our pets so much, and we want to do the best for them...its just so hard to let them go...

hi cookie
I wasn't willing to let any of them go
I spent every instant trying to get miracle for them
I did not succed
it was the only way I could go then, where there was life there was hope
I kept my hope up
because I would not accept their leaving

I do believe they have far more wonderful life in Heaven than in the world
because I can never give them the limitless freedom here they'd love
I held on cause I could not bear losing them
I have struggled to minimize my grief tho
I dont want to be unhappy
I did best with my last one when Bill said his inner voice informed him that Skippy wanted to go
so I agree with you, realizing that it is their decision to go, changes everything
(or a lot anyway)

Here is my grandmothers old lady story...

This is about my fathers mother, the older sister of good old Uncle Oscar...We always called her 'grammie', tho my friends always called her 'California Cyd'....

Now grammie was born and raised in New Jersey, nin 1902...in 1945, her daughter, my aunt Helen, and her husband were moving to California, from the east..by this time, grammie had been a widow for some time, my dad was married to my mom and in Chicago...so grammie, not having anything to hold her back east, went west to California, with her daughter and Son in law...

But great grammie, grammies mother was now getting on in years, and lived alone in the big house with Oscar...All of grammies other brothers and sisters remained back east, and all the families contributed their time and energy, into helping take care of great grammie...my grandmother, also felt it was her duty to have her share of time caring for great grammie, so her life was spent on traveling back and forth across the country....

She would live for a year or two, out in California with her daughter and son in law and their growing family...then she would hop a train, and get to Chicago, and spend about a month with us...then she would get on another train, and go back to New Jersey, and move into the big house, with great grammie and Oscar, and there she took up her duties, of house cleaning, cooking, and caring for greatgrammie...she usually stayed back in New Jersey living in the big house, for about a year...

Then she would get on a train, come back to Chicago, and live with us for about 3-6months...after that time, she would get on another train, headed back to California(Which is what she now considered to be her home)...she would stay in California for a year or two, and then the whole process would begin again...This went on until great grammie died in 1964 or so...

So during those almost 20yrs, grammie traveled back and forth between California-Chicago-New Jersey, and back again...Grammie loved train travel...she declined to fly, tho it would have been quicker...

She enjoyed the folks she met, the towns and stations she passed through, the drinks on the club car, where she could smoke and drink and pass the time with fellow travelers...

One time, Grammie was on the train, on one of her frequent travels, and she was seated at the window seat(grammie always wanted the window seat)...the person sitting next to Grammie, was quite a prim, elderly lady, who did not talk much, but rather just sat, and stared ahead...so grammie found her rather boring...

The train slowed down, as a town with its station stop, was coming up...grammie just stayed in her seat, watching whatever was going on...then the old lady next to her, started getting agitated, and was trying to mumble something, and tried to get up...so my grammie asked the old lady if this was her stop, and did she want to get off...The old lady indicated that this was her stop, but she needed help getting up, getting her suitcase down, and help getting off the train..

So grammie obliged...she helped the old lady on with her coat, got her luggage down, and helped her down the steps off of the train...soon, the train was ready to roll, and it pulled out of the station, gained speed, and went on its way...grammie was satisfied with herself, that she had done her good deed for the day...

About 1/2 hour later, the conductor comes through, looks at the empty seat next to grammie, and lets out a horrible gasp...he asks grammie where the old lady is...Grammie replies that she help that old lady off at the last station stop...

Well, the conductor got hysterical...seems that this old lady, was not quite in her right mind(probably called her senile), and that her family put her on that train, so she could visit with her other family members...but the stop where grammie put her off, was not the stop the old lady was supposed to get off at...it was much, much, further down the line...This conductor was supposed to keep an eye on the old lady, and get her safely to her destination...

Needless to say, my grammie ruined all that...but grammie was quite angry...she said, that conductor was nothing but a 'damn fool' for leaving the old lady unattended...grammie thought she was being a good Samaritan, and instead, she got yelled at by the conductor...

When grammie would tell that story to me, and all her grandchildren, we all thought it was the funniest story ever...but grammie saw no humor in it...she thought the conductor was a 'damn fool', the old lady was 'simple', and old ladys family 'nutty' for letting the old lady travel alone...

We never did find out what happened to the old lady..by the time the conductor found out what had happened, they could not turn back the train...I suppose they probably called back to that last station stop, and told them to be on the lookout for a lost looking old lady, with a description, and to put her on the next train...

Thats my grammie....

justamy posted this about CA (her homestate)

Two overcast days in a row drive you stark raving mad.
Everyone who lives here knows that hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and snow storms are way times worse than earthquakes which are, after all, over almost as soon as you realize what's happening.
You can't remember . . . is pot legal?
Even if the store is across the street, you drive there.

Well, now you have gone and done it, made me cry and cry...

I have read that poem, about the Rainbow Bridge, many, many times...BigDom and I, when we talk about our animals who have passed on, we always say, that they are waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge...that poem is so great...

But what really made me cry all the more, was as I ventured further into that site, there are so very many people registered there, who write tributes to their animals..they have little gravestones, and flowers and toys for their animals, and some were able to post pictures on the gravestone...

The stories are all so touching and make me cry...on the one hand, I feel so good reading these stories, because it is always reassuring to know that so many people, adamantly loved their pets...but so sad, because I know they have a broken heart because of their pets death...

But this is one site, that will require much further reading, about other peoples animals...I love animal stories...

JustAmy is a real cutie, and she posts some funny things...

My grammie was one of a kind, and she made us kids laugh all the time...

Has it cooled down yet for you, Palo....its beautiful here, right now...warmish, sun shining, blue skies showing off...summer in the Pacific Northwest is wonderful...

Its during the suumer months we get to see our mountains...its just ironic, that surround by huge mountains, toward both the east and the west, we seldom see those mountains, except for in the summer...

When we drive up to Seattle on Friday, we will be able to be surrounded by the mountains as we drive along I5..always makes the drive so scenic...

lol I found this one bout NYC

You know you're a New Yorker if...

You have never been to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building.

You can get into a four-hour argument about how to get from Columbus Circle to Battery Park, but can't find Wisconsin on a map.

You think Central Park is ''nature.''
ROFL it is true

There is a section, where they have the poem, about the Rainbow Bridge...then there is another section, where people have posted stories about their pets...They even have grief counselors....

Many people do have a very hard time, dealing with the loss of their pet, so for many people, its good to have someone to talk to about it...

I know there are lots of pet cemetaries also...I remember, when I would drive down to my moms in California, along I5, in Northern Cal, there is a big pet cemetary...

And some people even have their pets stuff, by a taxidermist...

That is one end of the spectrum...and then there is the other end, pure evil whackos, that torture and harm animals...

I prefer to be with those who mourn their dear pets..
