hi sweetie
before I left nyc my friend Laura told me her grandmother had moved into senior housing
her grandmother was over 100 years old so maybe it was special senior housing
cause Laura said all the ovens had something on them to protect the people from inadvertently blowing themselves up
Laura said she thinks her grandma is starting to lose it
cause when those letters arrive ''dear mrs goldberg, you have won a million dollars''
laura's grandmother wants to know where her million dollars is
she is very exercised 'bout it
Love, Palo

I sure am glad you like my stories...sometimes I am really longwinded...
I was just blessed to have been born into a family, on both sides, that had some real characters, and you are right, their lives and their adventures are much more exciting than lots of fictional writing...
Often, when my son speaks about the family and its history, he says, most other folks he knows, have normal family members, which compared to his family, just seem boring...
We are a colorful group here....

Thats so funny, Palo...I am glad that the senior housing provides special things so that the seniors, wont blow themselves up...
When I was taking care of my mom, with her Alzheimers, one day she said she was going to make herself a grilled cheese sandwich...so I was just going to observe and see what she did...she got as far as putting the griddle on the burner...
Then her memory faded, and she walked into the front room, and forgot about what she was doing...she would have left that griddle on that hot burner forever, probably setting it on fire...luckily I was there to observe, and saw what she was up to...
That was when I realized for sure, that she could no longer live alone...

Lots of seniors, when they get those letters, actually think that they have won the money...the wording is so misleading sometimes, that even non-senior people, when reading that wording, at first think they have won some money...

Yikes, I hear the hubby starting to stir, meaning he is getting ready to get up...that means, start cooking him some breakfast, and then today we are going to do some 'chores' together...sounds awful and mundane, but alas, I suppose we must get busy...hopefully I can return later on...
I will stay online, until he drags me off...

Interesting "Show Me the Money" story, and sad.
My fil had been reduced to almost "baby" status
by the Parkinson's disease. Every day, another
step backward.
Keep having fun - gotta do some party prep for
friends moving to CO. bbl

lol andysmom this is hard one for me
many of the books communicated in by God say money does grow on trees
on the other hand those letters which fill up the mailbox telling us we have won million dollars are not true
Laura's grandma is upset
cause she wants her million
To: palo verde
Yikes - I told him to go type Drunk Cat into google.
I'll check back with Dave - thanks. ;-)

as long as Dizzy still gives mousie the dickens
we have no cause for worry
Fluffy is in a stupor
maybe intervention is called for
Fluffy has to cut back on the beer and tv
To: lodwick
you don't think Dizzy is settin' down the road which brought about Fluffy's ruin

What is so bad about Parkinsons, is that fully 1/3 or Parkinsons patients, also get dementia....sometimes its very hard to distinguish from Alzheimers, and often doctors mistakenly diagnose people....
Usually symptoms like the tremors, the 'frozen' face, drooling, extreme difficulty in walking, due to feet almost being frozen in place, are symptoms associated with Parkinsons...but often people who really have Alzheimers, also have Parkinson symptoms...
So often people who actually have Parkinsons, also exhibit the classic dementia associated with Alzheimers, and people who actually have Alzheimers, have the classic physical symptoms associated with Parkinsons...
Often this is as confusing for the neurologists, as it is for the family to weed out...
In the end tho, if one lives long enough with either one of these two devastating diseases, the end result is the usually the same...the patient has dementia, is bedridden, is incontinent, often cannot speak or understand, and they are now no longer to perform even the simplest tasks for themselves...
Both these diseases are horrendous, and put really a great deal of stress and strain on the whole family...I wish they could find a cure for these diseases...they are terrible...

Well, my Dizzy is happy with just his catnip..sometimes the hubby tries to tempt Dizzy, letting him sniff his beer...but Dizzy turns around and leaves...he does not like the smell of beer, prefering his catnip...
And he hates cig smoke...he wont come near me, if I am smoking....
And hes still quite lively with his spy game, and attacking his mousie on the string...
So, I think for now, Dizzy is not on the road to ruin...
To: andysandmikesmom
whew andysmom relieved to hear it
Fluffy is now featured in google under drunk cats
hate it if Dizzy wound up there too

Money is such an odd thing....when we were newly married, we did not have much money...and when the kids were little, and hubby was in the full time army, money was never abundant, but we were always happy...
And when my older boy was sick, even tho his primary care for his treatment was in the military hospital, still the out of pocket expenses we incurred were high, and even the military hospital charged about 7 dollars a day, which is cheapie...but our son was in the hospital for 8 months so that came to about 1600 dollars...
And then when he needed a bone marrow transplant, the army, at that time would not pay for it...so we had to petition the state of Washington to pay for it, which finally they consented to...but we had to put up the first $5000....
And then after he died, I could not work, and the hubby left the army at the end of enlistment(long story why), and jobs were not plentiful, so we had to live on unemployment and welfare for a few years, so the hubby could go back to school, which he did..
And then when we finally appeared to get our footing, next it was taking care of my mom and dad, and getting ready to send Andy off to college...4 yrs of Cornell tuition was really a trial, and left us pretty well broke...
Today, years after all of this, our house is paid for, we have no real bills, our savings are increasing, ,and we are financially more secure...but are we more happy than those early days, when the boys were young, and we were just scraping by? I dont think so...
For as I look back on it, not having much money, and having to make do, with what we had on hand, and being a close family, tryng to enjoy life without a lot of money, we were indeed sublimely happy...I think, that the journey, towards becoming more financially secure, is the real fun part...once you actually have the money, it really does not make one any happier...
I am just now, in my later years, beginning to realize this...I think, the ones I feel sorry for, are actually those who are born rich...there seems to be little to strive for...of course, I see this only from the perspective of one who has never been rich, nor ever will be...the whole world of the 'rich' is a world I will never know, and I dont know that I want to know it...
I think real struggle is what builds character..just my own silly opinion, yet there it is...
