Palo, you have me in stitches...Bill is going to paint the kitchen brown, and your comment is that the kitchen will look like a 'cave'...I am cracking up at this....
Now, you can lighten the 'cave' with pretty white curtains, and white accessories....nothing is ever as bad as it may sound, to begin with...
To: palo verde
Nice pics gran...that lake looks delish...lots of fun goes on there, I will bet...

There was a thread here on FR, a while back, one of those threads about 'You know you are from (insert such and such state or city), if....
Well, there was such a thread about New Jersey, and altho I am not from NJ, many of my relatives are, and so it was of interest to me...I asked about BirchBeer, and was assured that it still exists, and is popular...
But I guess its just a local soda pop, and enjoyed by those in its locale..

When we first got married, I moved in with my husband in the apartment he already had...but it was only big enough for the two of us, and when I got pregnant, we went out looking for a bigger apartment...
We did not have much money, so had to really look for the best bargain for a larger apartment for a cheapie rent money...
We found this really nice big apartment that we really liked and the rent was within our budget...but the paint job was something else...
This apt. had two bedrooms...and one was painted black and the other one was painted a neon purple...man, that hurt my eyes, and the black room, looked like the pit of hell....
But the real estate outfit, handling the apt bldg. assured us, that we could get most of the rooms painted professionally, and paid for by the owner...so we took the apt...
But those were the worst colors I ever saw, for two bedrooms...the real estate managers thought that teen-aged sons of the woman who was on the lease, were wild musicians, ,and liked those wild colors...
But black and neon purple bedrooms, were not really what we wanted for a young married couple, expecting their first baby...

Gosh, I did not realize that was the Atlantic Ocean...
Yes, the Atlantic does appear to be much calmer, at least at that location...
Most of what I have seen of the Pacific, is along the Washington, Oregon and Northern Cal. coast, and yes its really wild and rugged and I have rarely seen it real calm...which is odd, considering the name, 'Pacific', which I think was originally meant to convey that the Pacific Ocean was calm...
When we lived in North Carolina, we used to go down to the ocean, near Wilmington, for a weeks camping, and beaching, and swimming, and it also does appear that my remembrances were, that the Atlantic was much calmer, than what I usually see around here...

Ogunquit and Scarborough, and sometimes to Wells.
We used to rent a house for the summer near the beach in Ogunquit, by the lighthouse. It was heaven :-)Before it was invaded by the frogs!! and the other "fairies" ;-)

rofl andysmom
those rooms were painted for a rock band to practice
they are not at all suited for a baby's nursery
To: habs4ever
Ogunquit is lovely isn't it, but you're right about the crowd now.. I spent some time in Wells when younger.. In fact we spent a weekend in Wells last year.. Beautiful spot.. Have some nice pics somewhere on one of these computers from Wells..

Palo, you can give us progress reports...."Palo Verde here, reporting live from the cave"...
If he goes that dark, do you have any trim you can paint in white to offset the tone?
To: habs4ever
it will now look like inside of clay oven
To: habs4ever
I'm a girl
if it were up to me I'd use the colors chickie has in her house
Bill plans to paint our house so it will look like a cave
To: habs4ever
however he uses that huge second living room as art studio
so it has to have light
he painted the one huge wall with windows brick red
so he has to paint other walls radiant white

I loved that apt...it was really big, a huge front room, a huge dining room, two good sized bedrooms, and a medium size kitchen, which had a large pantry...and it had a sunporch, which I really loved...and now, here comes a sunporch story...
Our apartment was on the third floor...the sunporch was off of the front room, and it was on the front of the building, and looked out down on the street...the whole porch was enclosed by nothing but screened windows...
It was a lovely place to put plants, and a great place to sit out in, and open the windows on a hot Chicago evening, with a cool drink...
Anyway our first boy was two years old...one night, what sounded like a very violent storm came our way...the wind was howling, and it just seemed to be of a tremendous force...all of a sudden things got scarey, and two little windows that were in the front room, above the fireplace, blew in and busted all over...and then there was this huge tree right out in front, which was taller than the bldg, which was three stories...we heard that tree starting to crack...
So my husband told me to grab our baby out of his crib, and we should run into the hallway of the apart. bldg. as it should be safer...well we sat out in that hall, until the storm died down a little bit...
When we went back in, that whole tree was actually pulled out by its roots, and slammed against the bldg...our power was also cut...finally we lit candles, sat a while, too scared to move...and then drifted off to sleep...
The next day, we went out and looked around...all the trees on our block, great big huge trees were all down...not just knocked down, but actually pulled out by the roots, which you could see as we toured around our neighborhood...
Now the weather news, said, that there was a very bad storm that last night in Chicago...but that evidentally a small whirlwind, like a tornado whirlwind, had hit down in just one block in Chicago, and did damage to bldgs, and tree, and such...and of course, they were talking about our block...we got hit by a rare tornado...and there was quite a bit of damage...
Now the city sent out their big machines and such to cut up and remove all these fallen trees...the tree in front of our apt bldg, did not fall to the ground, but rather was thrown against the bldg...I had tree branches smack dab up against the windows of our sun porch...it was quite eerie...
Later on that day, I heard this big machine noise going on out in front...so I ran to the sun porch to see what was going on...Now, keep in mind, it was summertime, and it was very hot, and I was wearing nothing but my bra and panties at the moment I decided to run out onto the sun porch...but being as we were three stories up, I figured no one would see me...
Ha...as I go out onto the sunporch in my undies, I see a man in one of those basket type things hooked up to a truck, that was conveying him up to the top of our apt bldg. to begin cutting the top of that tree, which was evidently on the roof of the apt bldg...
Well, of course, I was too shocked to move, seeing this strange man peering into my sunporch window, at me in my undies...I guess I just stood there like a dolt, with my mouth hung open, and my nearly nude body there for all the world to see...
The man in the basket, just grinned, tipped his construction hat at me, and kept going upward in the basket...I bet he had tales to tell his fellow co-workers, and his family, about that ditzy dame on the sunporch...
To: palo verde
This is just too funny Palo...Miss Palo, reporting from her 'cave' or her 'oven', depending on what color, Bill uses on those walls...
I am entirely sure, that you can find curtains, and accessories, that will offset whatever color Bill uses...Palo is creative and inventive, all will be well...
