Happy and Warm - Waiting for Storms to Disperse

Emerging into the dawn of his 11th day aloft, Steve Fossett is 5,400 miles (8617 km) farther east and south than at the same point in the mission last year. As in the past several hours, Bud Light Spirit of Freedom is still in a sort of holding pattern, having dropped low to 12,000 feet (3,658 meters) out of the faster jet streams. The balloon has slowed to 47 miles per hour (75 km per hour) because of this, in order to allow unfavorable weather to dissipate before he crosses the South African region.

At these lower altitudes, it will also be warmer. The ice is melting off the balloon and falling down like a rain shower on the gondola suspended beneath it. Despite the extremes of conditions experienced in the past few days, all the equipment is working smoothly. Fossett said in a 1:30 a.m. (6:30 UTC) phone call to Mission Director Tim Cole that he is "happy and warm."

At 46 degrees south and 16 degrees east, Bud Light Spirit of Freedom has a heading of 43 degrees and has traveled 13,158 miles (21,175 km). The around-the-world mission is now 72% complete.

Good morning Palo. Those Lilies are just like the ones starting to bloom in my garden.. Day Lilies, Tiger Lilies, whatever. Mine are all orange and they are very tall..
I'll take some pics as soon as more of ours come out.

I just came in from the garden.. Got a few small plants in, but it's too wet to do more right now.. I'm thinking about making another Carrot Cake.. I just threw out almost a whole package cake, because they are spoiled now and only like the good stuff...and this cake is good.. Much healthier too..and not at all fattening.. ;) Riiiiight..

I have to get a couple more peppers today. Have enough stuffing for two good sized one.. They will always get eaten.. So I'll be back to six again.. It will shut their mouths when they want something to eat.. heh, heh, heh...

I can't believe the fourth is next week.. Where has the summer gone? To me, it's always been over after the fourth.. No plans yet, and don't care..

Summer school....very good! I figured I was at least in the Graduate School of life, but I learned a new word here yesterday from Palo, and now new and improved bra magnets. They don't mention what would happen if a person took a deep breath and the magnets disengaged. A Dolly Parton could be a real danger in a crowded elevator, say.
