House envy ? The Gores are moving into a big, white, columned house on lovely tree shaded grounds in a highly desirable neighborhood. Fortunately for all of us it is in Nashville, not DC.

Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, have purchased this white frame home on Lynwood Boulevard in Belle Meade. Stephanie Bruced/Staff

As the crow flies, Belle Meade is only about 50 miles from Carthage, in reality it is light years away. Belle Meade is an old money, established enclave located within the city limits of Nashville. The Belle Meade Police Dept has been known to run errands for residents during peak party seasons and more often than not becomes a taxi service for misbehaving teens on weekends. The Gore kids will have a village "sitting" service. I wonder if their old tenants, the Mayberrys, will be invited to the housewarming ? Nashville new home for Gores. Couple buys $2.3M house in Belle Meade

Oh-my-goodness. The White House press corp is upset with the President and his staff over their limited access and near isolation at the G8 Summit. They've gone into full pout mode. FOFL. Press angered over isolation at summit

Gee, do ya think this means they're gonna stop writing so many of those fawning, puff pieces about the President ? Last I heard Canada is the host nation, not the U.S. If they've come unglued over just 3 days in the cool Canadian Rockies they're gonna be some kinda crazy after spending the entire month of August in sweltering Crawford.

Hehehe. In Saudi Arabia, Concern About Rocky Relations With U.S.. I wonder if His Royal Highness, Prince Abdulla still thinks his "tutoring" of our "noble minded", cowboy President went well ? The Middle East is about to be reshaped for good and the Saudi Royal family understands that all to well.

Our good friend the Saudis. Weren't 15 of the 19 9-11 highjackers Saudis? Good article.

BTW, I had seen some of yesterday's posts re: the 9th Circus Court. I went to their web site, and they show 45 judges, but didn't indicate whether they were active or not. Sometimes this court makes good decisions, but so much depends on which judges are hearing the case. I have actually sat in on one of their reviews, and it was fascinating. They made a good ruling on the case - it was a case regarding the Clean Water Act, and ruled against the radical environmental group. I could almost see which way the ruling would go based on the judges' questions, although I've heard it said by experienced lawyers that that often isn't an indication of which way they would rule.

Hey .38, The 9th Circuit Court currently has only 24 active judges rather than the normal 28. They're 4 short thanks to the democrats in the Senate holding up the President's judicial nominees. Therefore, senior or inactive judges have to pick up some of the case load. Such was the case with Judge Goodwin. He is a Senior Judge. There is an almost equal number of senior or inactive judges. Fourteen of the active 24 judges were appointed by Clinton. Of the remaining 10, three were appointed by Carter, three by Reagan and 4 by Bush 41. Three quarters of the active judges on that bench were appointed under democrat administrations. I heard Rush say they have more rulings overturned than any other court.

Even my dim/lib rep gets this one - the pledge matter.

Dear Lodwicks:

Thank you for your communication regarding the decision made by
a 2-1 majority of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled that
the Pledge of Allegiance is an unconstitutional "endorsement of
religion" because of the addition of the phrase "under God" in 1954
by Congress.

I support the Pledge of Allegiance in the form that I have been
saying it since I was a student at Bryker Woods Elementary and the
way we say it at the beginning of each day of Congress.
Accordingly, I voted in favor of House Resolution 459, "expressing
the Sense of the House of Representatives that Newdow v. U.S.
Congress was erroneously decided."

Thanks, got your note, and also your letter which arrived this morning with the 2 pictures inside. (Hadn't missed them!), but thanks for returning them all the same.

Another glorious day here, I have done a load of washing and it is dry and ironed already!

Catriona left with her father and his family this morning to go and see the yacht he bought at Easter time. It is berthed over on the west coast. They will stay tonight and return home tomorrow.

Richard has gone out with his friends so I am on early to night.LOL

Thanks again for all your news, take care and "hear" you later. SL x

Hi Scotslass, Good to see you. How nice that you're having great weather. It rained almost all day yesterday and we've had thunderstorms all morning. The grass seems to have grown at least an inch since breakfast. LOL

Hum. Nice friend, huh? Strobe Talbot is a very smart man who has been enamored with Russia since his days at Oxford. I think he is also a duplicitous, communist, snake in the grass and it wouldn't suprise me in the least if he were a spy.

Y'all, the President announced a short time ago that he will undergo a colonoscopy at Camp David this weekend. He was very forthcoming about it, saying he will be mildly sedated and for a brief time power will be transferred to Vice President Cheney. It appears to be more precautionary than anything else since the President has a history of benign polyps but the press is flipping out. FOFLOL. Truth be known they're probably hysterical because they won't have access to the facility or the doctors at Camp David, they're not even allowed on the premises and of course, the air space is restricted. Bush to undergo test requiring anesthesia

Deb and Howlin posted two very funny responses about it.

Maybe the doctors will be getting Cynthia McKinney off his back.

Loddy.....these things are backing up! Will do the other one hopefully in a day or so. There's a fellow here name of Bob Johnson who writes a column called "Rusticated Opinion". This time,he has comments from an old newspaper, and some tidbits about some of the old mining towns. When I can, I'll pull some of them and type them up for ya. I'm just really busy playing catch-up. TTYL.......

IN THE EARLY DAYS OF LEMHI COUNTY, June 20, 2002, edition of The Recorder Herald

50 Years Ago - 1952
* A total of 35 students are already enrolled in the summer music program at Salmon High School, Wayne Ball, band director, said this week, and the late enrollment is expected to bring the total to 40 by the week's end.
* What may be the richest fluorspar deposits in this area has been located in the Salmon River Canyon about 20 miles below the end of the road. The claims, called the Crystal Cluster and Broken Halter groups, start at the head of Black Canyon.
* FOR SALE--60 acres adjoining Salmon City Limits, 28 acres hay, balance pasture, Good 2 bedroom Modern Home, Free Water, ranch all fenced, deal includes all machinery and 8 milk cows. $6,000.00 Cash, terms.

60 Years Ago - 1942
* The body of Charles Borosch was found in his cabin by Harley Michael, the first of the week. Mr. Michael is employed by the forest service and happen to be passing the cabin. He dropped in to see how Borosch was getting along and found the body lying face down on the floor.
* A huge crowd, a caravan of cars, and the Salmon band welcomed Jackie Cook home from overseas Monday afternoon. He came in on the stage from the south and is on a thirty-day furlough from the Army. Jackie was badly injured in Manila the day before the war started.

70 Years Ago - 1932
* Notice has been received that a carload of flour will be shipped from St. Anthony for distribution to the needy of Lemhi county. This will probably arrive sometime this following week. This flour is to be distributed to individuals and families WHO ARE UNABLE TO OBTAIN FLOUR FROM ANY OTHER SOURCE. In other words, it is not to be distributed indiscriminately to those who are simply hard up (for we are all hard up) but those who are justly entitled to assistnce at public expense.
*The most sensational gold discovery in many years is that made last week by George Martin and Charlie Pine, on the slope of Haystack butte, north of Leesburg.

80 Years Ago - 1922
*The flow of the Salmon river reached its peak on Thursday and has receded since. At no stage of this high water has there been any damage to the river bridges, as far as reported. The dam forming the swimming pool at Island Park has stood the test undamaged.
* A letter form A.C. Cherry tells of the recent robbery of his home in Weiser of every article of his own clothing except what he wore, besides a valuable shot gun and some articles from Mrs. Cherry's wardrobe.

90 Years Ago - 1912
* Monday morning Frank Wilkie, who was working on the Benedict irrigating ditch, secured a 2-ounce bottle of laudanum, to the use of which, for pain, either real or imaginary, he was addicted, and Tuesday afternoon was prostrated from the effect of the drug, having in a very few hours swallowed the entire contents of the bottle. Medical aid was summoned and the usual remedies in such cases were resorted to. Frank Wilkie born in Troy, N.Y., 50 years ago, died at Benedict's ranch near Junction, Idaho, at 11 o'clock, night of Wednesday, June 12. A bottle of laudanum, whether taken with suicidal intent or otherwise, concluded the life story of our old Frank who had been an invalid for a year or more.

100 years Ago - 1902
* A post office has been established at Gilmore, Lemhi county, Idaho, with Hattie Grooms as postmistress.
* Warm Springs, a tributary of Loon creek is the scene of the latest discovery, a ten foot vein of free gold ore has been discovered by Colorado prospectors which assays $12 per ton. A number of men are going into the district.
* Relatives of B.A. Whittier, whose body was found in the river last week, have sent for a positive identification of the body in order to get the life insurance. The necessary proofs were sent.

110 Years Ago - 1892
* The post office at Fort Lemhi has been discontinued. A petition has been forwarded to Senator Shoup asking him to have an office established at the 17-Mile House with D.J. Kenney as postmaster.
* The thermometer has been roosting up in the nineties for the past three days.
* Cheap lodgings can be secured at A.A. Smith's on Terrace street. Neatly kept rooms and clean beds - 25 cents per night.
* J.A. Atkins, our obliging postmaster, is out in the mountains mining between mail days.

* * * * * * * * * *

I thought the story about the flour was a hoot as well as the laudanum.

The next one has a bear story, loddy....:) Til next time, au revoir, adios, hasta la vista...goodbye.
