my sicilian neighbor used to call my dog Clio a maroon when she rushed in to visit him
a bunch of other Italian words too
I wish I remembered them now
I've lost my italian since I moved to tucson
when hubby gets home from work ask him if maroon is sicilian word, and what it means

heheh - yeah, it's a very good idea to stop dueling with unarmed opponents. Saves a lot of serenity for your soul.
Clem is being pimped around as a hick woods Talisman of sorts - we'll see how it/he goes. Prolly poorly.

A little more history...During the Mexican War the U.S.Navy tried to land a force at Mulege. A rag tag group of locals drove them off....

Humphrey Bogart is one of my favorites...I just saw the 'African Queen' the other day...and CasaBlanca, and the 'Maltese Falcon', are some of my favorite movies...
The 'Three Stooges' is also one of my favorites..when I was a kid, we would run home from school, in a big hurry, to turn on the TV, and see the great Stooges...even today, I watch them in the afternoon, when they are on AMC
And Dracula, the old, old one with Belga Lugosi, is one of my favorite all time horror flicks...
Happy and I have great taste in films...

how did the Navy arrive, by sea
maybe the locals were more motivated
I don't see why the US Navy would want to take Baja
To: andysandmikesmom
I love the same movies you do, andysmom
recently when I was upset bout something, and spirit was trying to calm me down
spirit said ''here's looking at you, kid''
it's amazing how much it helped me
To: westmex
he deserted his post
but how could he resist
look at the offer he was made
he got to supplant Bloody Sam Roberts, a dashing wicked pirate
when you hired Clem for nightwatchman, he was lucky to get the job
he's bigtime now
To: palo verde
It was during Mexican War when the US invaded Mexico..The Navy landed in Alta California too..Yes they came in warships, was probably Marines that tried to land...They did get ashore at San Jose del Cabo..We probably could have kept Baja like we did AZ, NM and CA but no American wanted it then..

To: westmex

oh that looks refreshing
I love rivers
To: palo verde
Don't think Russia exerted much influence here..They had a fort down in Calif. though..We had trouble with the Brits though. Hudson Bay Co. had a fort on the Columbia River by Portland OR. and there was the Pig War in the San Juan islands. Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany mediated that dispute...
