We had a grandmother that lived with us till she died, and she played cards with a younger sister all day and would complain about how she cheated !! Then she'd baked cookies, and hide them, but my sisters found them and ate most.Did that ever tick her off!!LOL

When we were little, I remember my dads mother playing Old Maid, and Rummy and Go Fish...But grammie was a real card shark and a tough old gal...she loved poker, pinochle, and Blackjack...

When my dad was in the service, he met another serviceman on the train, who was going to the same area on a pass, that my dad was going to....

So my dad invited this man(who actually became a lifelong friend to dad) to come and stay with him and his mom and family..

. Well, they walked into the kitchen, and there was grammie with a bunch of other folk, playing cards, with an unfiltered camel cig hanging from her mouth, a highball drink in her hand, and swearing like a sailor because the card action had stalled for a moment..

. Dad says, this friend he brought home to meet grammie, just about flipped out...he said, "Thats a mother?"...dad just laughed..."Yep, there she is", said dad,..Grammie was quite a gal...

Her idea of a really fun weekend, when they were living out in California, was to drive down to Reno for the weekend, and spend the weekend, in the casinos, smoking, drinking and playing cards...

She was loads of fun, and we loved it when she came to live with us for a few months every couple of years...

Habs, I sure do have lots of tales...comes, I guess from having such an odd family, and lots of adventures and misadventures...they were all odd, but loads of fun, and provided me with a very rich growing up environment...I never knew what was going to happen next...

Palo, it is a mystery about the hubbys mother...through the years we have tried to piece things together, by little dropped words here and there, coming from my husbands relatives...and then once I met a woman who claimed to have been friends with my husbands mother(much too long a story to go into)...but she gave me a little information, which seemed to be the total opposite of what the family had occasionally said...

So I suspect that we will never really know what happened..what we do know, is that she left, and did not take my husband with...that is what we know for sure, ,and all the rest is really speculation...

BUSH AND POWELL IN A BAR

President Bush and Colin Powell are sitting in a bar. A guy walks in and asks the barman, "Hey, isn't that Bush and Powell sitting over there?"

The barman says, "Yep, that's them."

So the guy walks over and says, "Wow, this is a real honor. What are you guys doing in here?"

Bush says, "We're planning WW III."

And the guy says, "Really? What's going to happen?"

Bush says, "Well, we're going to kill 40 million Iraqis this time and one blonde with big hooters."

The guy exclaimed, "A blonde with big hooters? Why kill a blonde with big hooters?"

Bush turns to Powell, punches him on the shoulder and says, "See, smart a$$! I told you no one would worry about the 40 million Iraqis!"

Grammie was really a wildwoman...she made us laugh so much, with things she would pull...a cousin in California, where Grammie lived most of the time, told me this story...

They were visiting a friend, who had a little yappy poodle, and Grammie hated that dog...I guess the dog sensed it, and always barked and barked at Grammie...well, Grammie got perturbed and took her cig, and flicked it at the dogs nose, just enough to burn him...

The dog ran away from Grammie and never came near her again.. my cousin was horrified that Grammie, who always spoiled their troop of dogs at home, would dare to do that to a little poodle...its not funny, because I am such a dog and general animal lover...

But knowing my grammie, I have not doubt she did that, if that dog ticked her off...

That is exactly what we think...we think his family really does know what happened and just want to keep it a secret...Personally I think its better to just get it out in the open, and be done with it...

One thing that really does bother my husband about it, is that 1/2 of his genetic makeup is unknown, and sometimes certain diseases and certain syndromes have genetic links traced back to your parents and beyond...and the hubby knows nothing of his moms and her family medical history...

Of course, we do know her name, because of my husbands birth certificate, so we know her first name and her maiden name...

Now when my son was in Thailand, he met a gal from Ireland...and my husbands mother was 100percent Irish....that much we do know...well, when this gal from Ireland asked my son what his moms maiden name was, my son knew it, and told her...

This gal from Ireland said that was her last name, and being as its a not a very common last name in Ireland, she bets that maybe they are actually related by blood..

So that is interesting...what if my son, and this gal had become romantically linked, and wished to marry? Perhaps they are cousins...not knowing ones whole family, on both sides, has real disadvantages...

Thank you Loddy...I thought Duck Tail was what we called it...different parts of the country, often use different words to denote the same thing...
