irritating the pagan nativesSwerve, the armed Islamic Philippine terrorists who did this are neither pagan nor "natives." Where once the Commumists Huks did the killing there, now these guys do the same.

FOFLOL. No, Swerve, you would really like her. She has a wonderful mind and a delicious biting wit. She can cut you off at the knees with absolute perfection. You're left standing there wondering why everyone around you suddenly got taller. LOL Trust me, she's taken me down more times than I care to remember. LOL

They weren't preaching when they were kidnapped - they were celebrating their wedding anniversary at a beach resort. Just tourists at the time.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans a Gay and Lesbian Pride Month celebration June 13 and hopes all employees will participate. An agencywide USDA memo sent Tuesday afternoon by Lou Gallegos, assistant secretary for administration, says:
"One of our nation's greatest strengths is the rich diversity of its people. Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans form an important part of this national tapestry and have contributed to every facet of our society. All too often, however, these citizens have been marginalized, discriminated against, and even attacked for who they are."
Swerve, leave the HareKrisnas alone, and take out these USDA puds, please.

Swerve, the armed Islamic Philippine terrorists who did this are neither pagan nor "natives." They surrely are natives. That is their country. They rarely come here to kidnap people for ransome. They rarely even go into manilla. You have to go stick your nose in someone elses business to be within their range.

The Burnhams had been in the Philippines for 15 years. They weren't awkward outsiders. That was their home.

*L* She sounds very talented, Darlin'

The Muslims are the outsiders who are taking over the Philippines. Most of the Filippinos I've known were Catholics.

:) No, dahlin' Swerve, I don't agree with you on this one. I think the two girls who were held in Afghanistan were at fault. They put a lot of lives in danger trying to save them and no doubt impeded our progess in the critical first days of the war there. They acted very foolishly. The Burnhams situation was somewhat different and the times were not as risky when they first began their mission.

The Burnhams had been in the Philippines for 15 years. They weren't awkward outsiders. That was their home. If you go overseas you accept the risks. You can't expect to take our laws and mores with you. Either they knew the risks of being in the Phillipines and accepted them, in which case they have no room for complaint and no call upon our sympathy, or they went to the Phillipines without knowing the risks in which case it was evolution in action and they can be nominated for a Darwin Award.

The Burnhams situation was somewhat different and the times were not as risky when they first began their mission. Knowing when to bug out is a necessary survival trait overseas. Stupidity qualifies them for a Darwin Award, not sympathy.

Abu Sayyaf kidnaps foreign tourists for money, and they capture and behead local soldiers for intimidation. The Chechen guerillas do that, too. It is not a native thang - it is a Muslim terrorist thang as they expand their gang territory around the world.
To: Servant of the Nine
The guerrillas, thought to number only 60 or so from an original force of 1,000 after a year of army offensives, also kidnapped 18 others along with the Burnhams, including 17 Filipinos and Corona, California, resident Guillermo Sobero. Sobero, reportedly ill, was beheaded last June by the guerrillas, according to U.S. and Filipino officials.

I have no sympathy for people who go to dangerous places and get in trouble. Foreign travel is an assumed risk.
These 'bandits' are dangerous Islamo-Fascists and are tied to Al Quaida and I would love to see them all dead, but that is not the same thing as feeling sorry for some damned fools who walk into their territory. I will save my sympathy for those who died here 9-11

I thought he was going to walk for the longest time. I began to change my mind near the end when I realized none of the "clan" had been at his side during the trial. That was not a good sign for him, the "clan" wasn't spending any valuable PR capital on him, they hadn't circled the wagons as usual. LOL. Finally, Bobby Jr showed up for closing arguments but I expected that might have been because Skakel is reported to be writing a tell all book. LOL

*LOL* You are a Pat Buchanan - type nationalist/isolationist after all, aren't you?
To: Servant of the Nine
They surely are natives. That is their country.Of course they are "natives." What I was trying to say was that your post gave the impression that they were mere innocent children frolicking in the jungle until the mean old Christians came. They are armed murderers and members of Abu Sayyaf. They need to be eliminated.
To: ValerieUSA
*LOL* You are a Pat Buchanan - type nationalist/isolationist after all, aren't you? Now that is cruel. No, I believe in going anywhere and doing anything we want to further national interests, but that is not the same as worrying about risk takers and fools.
If we decide to invade The Phillipines and kill all the muslims or whatever because they are in some way a threat to the US, that is great. If there was an American soldier captured while training the Phillipine Army I would favor sending in the entire Marine Corps to get him back.
If someone goes to the Phillipines for their own reasons, then they have to accept the risks as they are. I have no more sympathy for them than for a bungee jumper who miscalculates the length of the cord.

Well, that is true but the Burnhams were in such a remote area that I doubt they got news until it was some months old. Heck, if it weren't for CNN and the internet Cuttnhorse wouldn't know what is happening around the world until much after the fact.
I agree with, it is important to get out as soon as trouble occurs. When we took that action in Grenada and when our marines died in Beruit I was in the Alps on the Swiss and Italian border. Most of the news broadcast were in Italian but I understood enough to be worried. Finally, I got a rebroadcast of a BBC story and a copy of the Internationl Herald Tribune. I changed my plans and headed home.
