All this dolly talk is rattling my brain...meant my post #900 to be for both palo verde and lodwick and whoever else is interested

But I notice I posted it twice to Palo verde...now what would we do, if there were actually two Palos...why, we would have twice the fun, of course...

hi sweetie
it's fun when treats make us happy
when my spirits sink too low, I won't go to mall to buy myself something pretty
but when I start to be happy again, I'm willing to be made happy

there is no such thing as cozy indoors day here on desert
when rain comes, it is like getting rain while you're at the beach
a wet blanket
but in summer, we long for wet drenching refreshing rain
so plants and earth on desert can drink their fill, and bathe in cool water

If you're happy, and Mr. Mom's happy - what could be finer?
Shop the dog outta knickknackvillage - I know nothing of dollie pricing, or what they charge to ship, but 25 bones seemed cheap enough to me.

Mrs. lodwick and I will be driving up to Dallas tomorrow to see my father, et all, so you ladies will have it all to yourselves until tomorrow evening. ;-)

Wait, I can get online at my neice's home and sneak a peak.

Doll pricing is a very strange thing to me...I have bought dollies at garage sales for 25cents....I will buy dolls at grocery stores, for $8 dollars....at the other end, I have bought very limited edition dolls for more than $300...

I know that some very well known doll artists, who do incredible work, and have extremely limited editions of their dolls will charge upwards of thousands of dollars(Those are the ones I cannot afford)....

I am not a dolly snob...I will buy a cheapie doll if I like it, and if I see an expensive doll, and I have the money, I will buy it also...

But you are correct, the prices of the dolls on KnickKnack are extremely reasonable, and as far as quality, well, I have been shopping dolls long enough to know what to expect for a $25 or $50 doll, as opposed to a doll which may cost a few hundred $$$....

As I said, if I like a doll, if it speaks to me, then unless its just too dang expensive, I will buy it...

And KnickKnack has about five dollies, that I think I will eventually purchase...I am realy glad to have that site...

Found this over at the Freeoples thread, and thought it was really cool, and will bring back wonderful memories for those of us old enough to remember, and for those who are too young, it will bring a glance of a simpler, more innocent childhhod time...

There once was a better place
A place of youth
A place of innocence
Remember when all problems could be solved by doing Eeny Meeny Mino Mo?
Remember being afraid of Cooties?
Think really hard
Go back to a better place
Before the violence, before the drugs
Before the street gangs and the thugs
We weren't concerned about anything
Our biggest fear was a bumble bee sting
Before SEGA or Super Nintendo
When our favorite toy was a G. I. Joe
Superman and Barbies were really big too
There was always something fun to do
When little girls didn't like boys
When they would rather play with their Cabbage Patch Kid Toys
When we played Hide And Go Seek and Simon Says
When our favorite candy was Pez
Mother May I?, Marco Polo, Red Rover
When any problem could be solved with a "Do Over!"
Chocolate milk, school lunch
Kool-aid, Captain Crunch
If you told a lie, you'd eventually admit it
Playing baseball in the field.. "You hit it, you git it!"
No worries, no troubles, no bills, no debts
When we only smoked candy cigarettes
Jaw Breakers, Bubble Gum, & Blowpops
No belly-button rings, just shorts and flip flops
Watching Saturday morning cartoons
When our favorite weapons were water balloons
When we were never worried about our hair
When there was no backing out of a Double-Dog-Dare!
Catching lightning bugs and crickets
If you saw an empty can you had to kick it
Jumpin' down the steps, jumpin' on the bed
Climbing trees, standing on your head
Hula Hoops, Pillow fights
Chiggers and mosquito bites
Playin' wiffle ball till you're out of breath
Being tickled to death
When late at night we would pray
For just one more snow day
Drinkin' from the water hose
Trying to get a spoon to stick to your nose
Going to Mamaw's house, watchin' Ole Yeller
Who did it?, the Smeller's the Feller!
Bedtime stories, counting sheep
On Christmas Eve you couldn't sleep
At recess they would turn us loose
For hopscotch, dodgeball, and Duck Duck Goose
Monkey bars, swings, and see-saws
Tennis shoes and over-alls
It was a time of simpler things
Like playgrounds and tire swings
Where are these things that we left behind?
They're not really so hard to find
Youth is nothing more than a state of mind!
Treasure the small wonders of life:
The innocence of youth, the beauty of nature,
the strength of love, and the power of friendship

I know, I have also read it before, but its so great, and I am not sure if everyone over here at DD has read it

So many of the things on that list I can so relate to, but the one special one that lingers in my mind, is the one about catching lightning bugs...

We lived upstairs of my aunt and uncle, and both my mom and my aunt canned and jarred all kinds of veggies for winter use...so we always had tons of mason jars around

Me, my brother, and my two cousins from downstairs, would all grab a mason jar, and run around the backyard at night, catching bugs and putting them in our mason jars, and seeing who caught the most...

It was a safe time for kids, back in the 50s, and your parents never worried that much that you were running loose at night, even in the middle of Chicago....

After we had out lightening bug contest, we would all sit down at the picnic table in the dark, and set free all our bugs, hoping to catch them the next night...

It was hot and humid, as Chicago nights are, and eventually our parents would come outside and join us kids...

We would sit around, us kids all hot and sweaty, but so glad it was summer vacation...our moms would bring out Kool-aid for themselve s and us kids, and our dads would be drinking beer...

We would talk and joke and josh around, and even tho we were not well off financially, still we thought life was wonderful in those moments...to have family, fun, love, pets, bugs, and drinks all in the backyard when the sky was black and the stars were shining, is a memory very near and dear to me...

I dont know if many of the kids of today, will ever look back on their childhoods, with as much love, as I feel for my own childhood...

Agreed. The news today is of Columbine, the news today from NewOrleans about the 12 and 14 year old girl steak-knifing to death a 16 year old girl, 12 old Pali bomber/murderers, and on and on and on.

I am very glad that I lived when I did - I would change it for nothing, unless it was some time even earlier.

Thanks for all your good stories and recollections - they trigger good thoughts of my own.

I think we are left behind from the mass acceleration and will have to stay and play with our dollies. ;-)
